| Danny Draven Biography Danny designed many sites after leaving Full Moon including Dave DeCoteau's Rapid Heart Pictures and J.R. Bookwalter's Dead Next Door websites. He spent most of his time trying to sell his kid's fantasy script entitled "Timerings". After a few months, Draven developed a relationship with Bookwalter. This friendship brought him a few gigs on Witchouse 2, including getting his arm chopped off in the opening scene in the woods, making props, and editing the two music videos on the D.VD. After several months, work became scarce. Danny expected a P.A. job cleaning up dog crap on a Beethoven sequel, and a possible web job at Warner Bros. Online, but he said no to both. Around this time J.R. Bookwalter was slated to direct HorrorVision. About two weeks before the shoot date Draven was given the movie. "I was in J.R.'s apartment reading Fangoria, and J.R. came down stairs and said wanna direct HorrorVision? My immediate reaction was... ughh (eyes twitching)... YEAH!! I was so excited, but a little nervous. My Director of Photography was Mac Ahlberg, he shot some of my favorite Horror movies (Re-Animator, From Beyond, house, Innocent Blood). And we got my favorite scream queen Brinke Stevens! Then reality sank in, how am I going to shoot a movie that has a floating cyborg, robotic whistlers that roll around in balls, and a 7 foot creature in the desert... on this shoe string budget. Are you guys out of your mind? There were 17 locations, an obscene amount for Full Moon. But, I just took a deep breath and did it. I've always believed that chance favors the prepared mind..." recalls Draven. HorrorVision was shot on DV (16x9 digital video) in 12 days for the Matrix's coffee budget. Danny recalls "It took me a day to recover, then I went through director withdrawal. I missed looking at the monitor and calling action. It definitely was a big challenge, but I came out with invaluable knowledge that has prepared me for the next movie. I'm ready for another..." When he's not making movies or editing, he's watching movies or reading film books. Besides studying Zen meditation, he also holds high ranks in martial arts, including Aikido, taekwondo, and Ninjitsu. Draven recently got married to film composer Josephine Soegijanty (Hell Asylum & Cryptz) on July 14th, 2002. |
