| J.R. Bookwalter J.R. Bookwalter began his filmmaking career at the age of eleven in Akron, Ohio. Brookwalter was raised on the classic soap opera DARK SHADOWS, which his mother watched religously. After graduating high school in 1984, Bookwalter took photography classes at The Art Institute of Pittsburgh. When his apartment was robbed a week into his second year, the fledgling director took it as a sign to return home. A month later Bookwalter meet filmaker Sam Rami (THE EVIL DEAD) who financed his first feature-lenght effort THE DEAD NEXT DOOR. The production of that film dragged on for nearly four years to finally be completed in Los Angeles. While in Los Angeles Bookwalter meet David DeCoteau (CREEPOZOIDS), a Director / Producer who was building his own distribution company. From 1989 to 1992, Bookwalter worked for DeCoteau in a variety of jobs including writing, directing, producing, scoring and mixing sound for nine feature films and four special interest videos. In 1991, Bookwalter started Tempe Entertainment and began self-distributing his own features such as the critcally-acclaimed OZONE. Bookwalter taught himself the ins and outs of low-buget production; in addition to the variety of work that he did for DeCoteau, he has acted, worked with explosives, makeup effects, lighting and cinematography. Bookwalter believes his work with various talents such as Sam Rami, Daivd DeCoteau, NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD co-creator John A. Russo and Charles Band taught him when to cut corners and when to work harder in the name of art. In 1997, Bookwalter left Akron for Hollywood. An association with Full Moon Pictures began later that year which has since led to a series of Tempe produced features. He also continues to pursue his own independen t projects.
