| Zoltan Hound of Dracula There's More To The Legend Than Meets The Throat. Dracula remains one of the immortals of screen horror. Since his first film incarnation in 1931 in Transylvanian shape of Bela Lugosi, he has probably put more victims out for the count than any other movie fiend - with the possible exeception of Frankenstien. Since 1931, filmmakers have tried to find new ways of depicting the blood drinker's montrous activities. Vampires have been everywhere - in space and on the campus, in girl's finishing schools and even on film sets. ZOLTAN... HOUND OF DRACULA adds a new and enjoyable twist to the old formula. If you've thought that the dog was man's best friend, you have a terrifying opportunity to change your opinion! Like all first rate vampire movies, the film begins in deepest Transylvania. Dracula's long dead servant ( the mega-creepy Reggie Nalder of MARK OF THE DEVIL and SALEM"S LOT fame) is brought back to life again when Russian soldiers inadvertently discover the Count's tomb. He is determined to ensure that the noble Dracula name is carried on,, so he travels with his dog Zoltan to Los Angeles to track down the last member of the Dracula clan, Michael Drake (Michael Pataki of GRAVE OF THE VAMPIRE). However, when Zoltan is sent to bite the sleeping man, Michael's alsatians drive the hound away. Now with the help of an international vampire hunter (Oscar winner Jose Ferrer), can Drake destroy Zoltan and his pack of blood-crazed devil dogs before 'man's best friend' can fetch the final soul of the damned? The horror is well handled by director Albert Band - the dogs themselves are as scary a pack of movie monsters as the most ardent fan could hope to find. An ingenous new twist on the vampire story - carried out in an entertaining way. Also known as DRACULA"S DOG, this surprising 1977 chiller was directed by Albert Band ( I BURY THE LIVING) and features makeup effects by Academy Award winner Stan Winston (TERMINATOR II, Aliens).
