Unearth - The Oncoming Storm
Nobody does metalcore as good as Unearth. Most other bands in this genre are really just hardcore kids playing bad metal songs and ripping off At The Gates. Unearth however have mastered their craft and still shine bright even though so many of their "peers" have done nothing but give their sound a bad name.
     "The Great Dividers" starts
The Oncoming Storm off with a roar. Trevor still uses the standard hardcore bark but the bastard does it so well I cant hold it against him. The twin guitar melodies on this track are amazing and the addition of Mike Justian (formerly of The Red Chord) on drums is great. He is literally flying behind his kit the whole time.
Buz and Ken's guitar work really stands out on this record. The production is crystal clear and showcases just how clean they harmonize together and how brutal they can get on the breakdowns. The lyrical content has matured a great deal since their last release, with social issues and global awareness replacing the "My Heart Bleeds No Longer" type of songs from the past (even though I love that song).
Anyone wanting more METAL in their metalcore cant go wrong with Unearth. The Oncoming Storm is filled with well crafted, high energy songs that will make you want to bang your head and swing your fists at the same time. This is a great step foward for the band and I cant wait to see them do this stuff live. Oh...and the new version of "Endless" rules also.
