Dripping water, footsteps...SCREAM. Thats the intro leading into "Pretty in Casts," and its quite the way to start a record. The songs on Terrifyer are a bit longer than the 30 second grindcore blasts we have come to expect. They have been beefed up to an epic minute and a half on average. The drumming is absolutely relentless and the guitar playing has stepped up a notch since their last release. More focus on riffs and dare I say "structure" rather than a full epileptic attack on our ears. J.R. Hayes vocal performance is one of the most painful things I have ever listened to. That isn't meant to be an insult, because it fits perfectly with the mood/music created by the band and Im guessing that was their intention. He reminds me of one of the rabid zombies running around in 28 Days Later.
This band seems to have mastered the art of extreme music. Off the bat this may seem like an average grindfest but there are countless moments of thrash, hardcore, punk and an amazing display of groove all over Terrifyer (even more amazing considering there is no bass player.) Some bits of melody can be found in passages of songs only to be overtaken by the darkness and hatred that is the core of Pig Destroyer. After all is said and done, this record should leave you exhausted and feeling like as decrepit as "Natasha." Picking favorites off this album is retarded because if you cant sit down and listen to this beast all at once...this record just isnt for you and you will have successfully missed the point of the entire Pig Destroyer experience.
