The riffs are more simplified than one might expect but that doesnt mean its a halfassed affair by anymeans. These songs bring to mind the rage and aggression of old grind and hardcore bands. "The Lies That Bind" is a blistering track that also showcases the excellent groove the band is capable of reaching. The drumming is pure madness and should please any death/grind fan.
Another highlight is Jason Netherton's vocals and lyrics. While his bass is slightly lost in the mix, his chaotic screams are filled with such desperation and panic, he sounds like a rabid animal ready to attack. His lyrics touch on political and social issues, no "Kill Your Mother, Rape Your Dog" type stuff here. The album ends with a cover of Brutal Truth's "Birth of Ignorance" and is done quite well. Anyone wanting something in your face and totally heavy cant go wrong with Retaliate.
