| Kataklysm- Serenity in Fire | ||||||
| Kataklysm have returned to crush all trend hoppers (Cough* Devildriver!* Cough) with their latest release Serenity In Fire. Their sound is quite unique, emphasizing brutal/hyper active drumming, often melodic and simplified guitar notes and a dual black/death metal vocal style in the forefront. This new release keeps in line with the "hyperblasters" history of pummeling records. The intro to "The Ambassador of Pain" is a quote from the movie Road to Perdition which leads us into the actual song. I must say that when I heard this track online before the album was released I was a bit dissapointed. The guitar work on this song is just totally generic. Luckily the drummer comes in to save the day and makes this crappy track ok. The next track has the same lacking quality and just doesnt do anyhting for me. Those two songs are about the worst on the whole disc, which leaves us with the pure fucking metal we have all come to love. These songs are all heavy as fuck but have the right amount of melody thrown in to get stuck in your head like some damn pop song. I just cant get enough of Maurizio's vocals. He has an amazing range for an extreme vocalist. The bands new drummer Martin Maurais really stepped up and just fits in perfectly. His blast beat with the one handed drum roll in "10 Seconds From the End" is pretty damn insane. Other standout tracks include: For All Our Sins The Night They Returned Blood On the Swans Under The Bleeding Sun |
