| Hatebreed - The Rise of Brutality | ||||||
| I know that Hatebreed is a hardcore band and that this is a PURE FUCKING METAL review site but i just had to review their latest album. Besides, Hatebreed play "tough guy" hardcore that harkens back toward the 80s (the kind that influnced thrash metal) and they dont sing about ill fated love or any of that shit you might hear now from all the "core" bands. The Rise of Brutality is typical Hatebreed. The songs are heavy and chugg along for the most part, occasionally picking up some "thrashing" speed. Breakdowns, sing along choruses... everything you would expect is here. The production is thick and makes everything seem extra heavy. Jamey still sticks with the Mr. Tough Guy vocals but he sounds more hoarse and raw then on their last album Perseverance. The only complaint I have is that a lot of the songs start to sound alike after a while. The repetitive factor people would say about Motorhead or AC/DC can be said about Hatebreed. Some of the lyrics lean on the cheesy side of things too ("Live for this" is a perfect example). All that aside, this is a good release but just dosent pack the same punch that their last record did. Standout tracks: Tear it Down Doomsayer Beholder of Justice This is Now |
