The Dillinger Escape Plan - Miss Machine
Where do we begin? First of all, The Dillinger Escape Plan are back and have released one hell of a record called Miss Machine. It pains me to say that I am not a long time fan of this band. My first reaction to their music was probably a confused face and a "wtf was that ?" remark. Eventually as time went on and after being exposed to newer bands that borrow heavily from their sound, I was finally able to accept the DEP into my heart.
Not wanting to get left out of the loop this time around I sat eagerly awaiting their next release. I can honestly say that I am deeply satisfied with the results. No,
Miss Machine isnt as extreme and overtly technical as Calculating Infinity but its still all over the damn place musically speaking and its still telltale Dillinger only in a refreshing sort of way.
"Panasonic Youth" is the first track and also the albums single (although "Baby's First Coffin" was on the
Underworld soundtrack). This song almost caught me off guard with how basic it was. I was expecting some totally off the wall shit but instead got a catchy sounding hardcore song. Yes its leaps and bounds beyond what most other bands are doing but for Dillinger the bar is set a little higher. If the song wasnt so damn good I'd say it was a disappointment!
The technical onslaught returns with "Sunshine the Werewolf" and is present throughout the disc. Its the slower, ambient sounding numbers that really standout however like "Phone Home" or "Unretrofied." The addition of new vocalist Greg Puciato is best thing about the record. He has the hardcore bark  down but offers so much more. He screams, squeals and croons throughout
Miss Machine and sounds much more sincere/utterly insane than their original singer. I never thought I'd say this but i'm sure there are some tracks on here that have potential to be huge radio hits ("Setting Fire to Sleeping Giants"). Of course I doubt the general public would embrace the band with open arms, hell it took me a few years! Well its their loss because from beginning to end Miss Machine rules and The Dillinger Escape Plan own. You must hear this record. The End.
