Cattle Decapitation - Humanure
Cattle Decapitation, a band that I initially hated and recently fell in love with have just released their new record Humanure. The cover alone should let you know that you are in for one hell of a ride upon purchasing this album. Fans of brutal death/grind should eat this right up.
The classy intro track leads into the title song of the record, "Humanure." This song has an almost elegant main guitar riff that gets mixed in with some pummeling double bass drumming and the ultra disturbing vocals of Mr. Travis Ryan. I've said it before and I'll say it again, he is the star of the show. Not that the rest of the band is lagging. The riffs are all surprisingly inventive  and the sloppy Slayer-ish solos fit well perfectly. The rhythm section absolutely destroys and the songs are as well crafted as this type of music can get but its the vocalist who, especially in a live setting dominates overall.
The production is much better than their last record
To Serve Man but it still isn't perfect. I wish the drums would have been put higher into the mix but maybe next time. The lyrics still preach about the evils of humanity and rush to the aid of the mighty bovine and as wacked out as it may be for a death metal act to sing about this stuff it still makes for a good read and reminds us that Cattle Decapitation aren't father's death metal band.
