Behemoth - Demigod
Behemoth's latest record Demigod, is crushing to say the least! While listening to this beast, I cant help but recall images of tanks steam rolling over everything in their path. Now that Vader have dropped the ball (in my eyes) with The Beast, its safe to say that Behemoth are officially Poland's most reliable export.
"Sculpting the Throne ov Seth" begins with a nice acoustic passage before switching into full on demolition mode. After listening to their past records and remembering the blur of motion I saw behind a set of rattling cymbals on the Suffocation tour, I cannot stress enough just how awesome Inferno is behind the drum kit. This song, along with other tracks like "Towards Babylon" showcase his lightning fast drum fills, snare blasts and double bass that seems to never stop.
Lets not forget about Negral, the band's lead guitarist, song writer and overall lord and master. He has crafted some brutal yet catchy numbers on this record, none more so than "Conquer All," the albums main single. It starts off slow and plodding, like soldiers marching towards battle, then transforms into a full on Brave Heart battle charge. The final moments of the song showcases a brief Vital Remains-ish solo.
Speaking of solos, Karl Sanders (Nile) lays down a guest lead on "Xul." Its not his best work, but it sure is nice to hear something new from the guy. As his playing slowly fades out, the beginning of "Slaves Shall Serve" comes blistering in and rips you to pieces. Choatic, frenzied and just fucking awesome! The final track, "The Reign of Shemsu-Hor," is an 8 minute epic and sends
Demigod off with a fitting ending...it just lacks the killing drive of "Slaves."
At this point, Behemoth seem unstoppable. Go buy this record and see them live the next chance you get...or else.
