Profile - Spider-Man
The Character
Origin : After being bitten by a radioactive spider, college student, Peter Parker, found he had many incredible abilities.   When his Uncle Ben was murdered by a burglar that Peter could have stopped, Peter took up the guise of Spider-Man and lived his life by some words of advice from his late uncle.  'With great power, there comes great responsibility.'

Real name :   Peter Parker

Occupation :  College Student (later a Lab assistant) and part-time Photographer.

Powers : The ability to walk and crawl on walls and other surfaces just like a spider.  Although it has never been disclosed how this happens, Parker himself has theorised it is electric/magnetic in origin, Given that the villain Elektro was able to 'negate' this power seems to suggest this theory is correct.  Spider-Man also possesses a 'Spider-Sense' to alert him when he is in danger, and the agility and speed of a Spider (Approximately 40 times faster than a human).  He also has what he refers to as 'the proportional strength of a spider', in practice his strength is actually much more, The Web-Slinger is capable of lifting almost 10 tonnes.  He can leap to a height of 3 storeys (around 30 feet).  Shortly after gaining his incredible powers Parker designed a 'Multipolymer Compound', an adhesive fluid capable of imitating the effects of a spiders silk webbing.  These can be used to 'incapacitate' opponent, swing across the city, make parachutes, safety nets, and flameproof shields.  This webbing is fired from wrist mounted 'web-shooters' and can be fired up to 50 feet.

Rookie : Represents Spidey quite soon after being bitten by the spider, while not as powerful as his later versions his attack and defend values are great for a 61 point character.  If the other versions of Spidey are too expensive for your team, the rookie may fit nicely.  With his Leap/Climb and Incapacitate, and later on Outwit and Flurry he is an IDEAL piece to take out figures much larger than himself.

Experienced : Experienced Spider-Man is exactly what he seems, a neat balance between the Rookie and the Veteran.  While his attack and Defend values go up, he doesn't gain the Spider-Man team ability.  In lower point games where the Veteran or Unique are not an option, the Veteran Spider-Man is an Excellent use of 82 points.

Veteran : Veteran Spider-Man is a member of the Spider-Man ally team.  This represents the friendships and associations he has built up in his years of crime fighting.  Spider-Man works with heroes such as Daredevil, Black cat and the Sandman, however, his 'wildcard' nature is best used when he teams with other groups such as the Avengers, the Fantastic Four, or the Defenders.  During the game Spider-Man functions as a member of any freindly team, and may use their team abilities.  While 110 points seems expensive at first Spider-Man gets some impressive powers such as Leap/Climb, Outwit, and late-dial Flurry, along with High attack and defense scores Veteran Spider-Man is a worthy hero.

Unique : After Spider-Man was involved in the Secret Wars (a battle between huge teams of villains and heroes at the whim of an otherworldy being named, the beyonder) Spider-Man's costume was left in tatters.  Using a machine to replace clothing, Spider-Man found himself in a new Black costume that appeared to enhance his abilities.  He used the costume for a long time until he found out it was actually a living organism.  An alien Symbiote that was slowly trying to take over and permanently graft itself to Parkers body.
