Their Lives
These three composers all led fairly interesting lives, which will be discussed in the next few pages. Mozart rose up from humble beginnings to a popularity which did not necessarily entail wealth, and gradually fell back into poverty, and was buried in an unmarked pauper's grave. Haydn spent most of his life in or near Vienna, but he did not live happily ever after at all. He suffered through an unhappy marriage in which he and his wife eventually separated and live apart for the rest of their lives. Beethoven lead a somewhat privileged life in the beginning, he was school by the best teachers available and had a few very close friends, he traveled to Vienna twice, in attempts to learn more about his art. Remarkably, Beethoven was so devoted to his music that he even continued to compose after he lost his sense of sound.
