Title: Stay With Me
By Martin Leon
Notes: This poem was written thinking about a special someone. Who is that special someone? Hee, hee, hee... you'll never know! Anyway, you know the drill: this poem belongs to me so you can't post it anywhere w/out my permission.
---
You are fading
Into your thoughts.
Somewhere between
Should’ve and did.
I am quiet.
Here I am.
But you’re not,
You hide in pain.
You are hiding
Behind my back,
Sanctuary for a moment,
Neutral land.
Talk to me.
Cry on me.
Smile for me.
Stay with me.
Take my hand.
Hold it tight.
Don’t let go.
Stay with me.
I remain,
You do not.
You are looking away
Into your past.
Your words are empty,
Your laughter vague.
Your voice is stronger,
You’re not there.
Your eyes are straying,
I’m supposed not to care.
Your voice is fading,
You move further away.
Laugh with me.
Look at me.
Listen to me.
Stay with me.
Take my hand.
Hold it tight.
Don’t let go.
Stay with me.
I’ve stopped talking,
I’m still here.
Silence calls you,
You grin your denial.
You are nearing again,
Behind my back.
You look over my shoulder,
Turn me around.
Five-second shock,
Your presence felt.
Your smile real,
My defenses blown.
You are here.
Silence me.
Hold me still.
Stay with me.
Take my hand.
Hold it tight.
Don’t let go.
Stay with me.
Reality welcomes you,
You doubt and step back.
Your past cries for you,
You silence your denial.
Your cave is shrinking,
I’m still standing guard.
The rivers are flowing,
You float away.
A minute of silence,
An embrace goodbye.
We cut the seconds,
The last words lost.
Take my hand.
Hold it tight.
Don’t let go.
Stay with me.
You are here.
Look at me.
Smile for me.
Cry on me.
Talk to me.
Listen to me.
Laugh with me.
Silence me.
Just hold still.
Stay.
Glow for me.
Save-me wish.
Don’t leave me.
Stay with me.
Take my hand.
Hold it tight.
Don’t let go.
Stay with me.
Use my shield.
Think of me.
Don’t kill me.
Let me stay.
