I've literally been waiting years to see this movie. After the undeniable classic that was Terror Firmer, the Troma team had a lot to live up to with the follow-up, Citizen Toxie. I'd built this one up to be a new classic. I probably haven't looked forward to a movie this much since Episode 1: The Phantom Menace ( No, I'm not being sarcastic here. I really was hanging to
see it... and we all remember what an absolute stinker that one was). So would I be similary disappointed by a lame effort this time? You'll just have to read on to find out. Citizen Toxie literally begins with a bang. Tromaville's school for the 'special' is taken hostage by the diaper mafia, a murderous trenchcoat mafia style gang. The beginning of Citizen Toxie is actually a gleeful Class Of Nuk'em High homage. The humour here is best described as tasteless...really tasteless. It's great to see politically incorrect humour that actually is politically incorrect, rather than Hollywood's sanitised interpretation of political incorrectness (i.e. a guy's dick stuck in a pie). Citizen Toxie takes a swing at everyone. For example: pro, and anti-abortionists get an equal serve of Troma satire. It's refreshing not to have a one eyed political view jammed down your throat by some self righteous director like it's gospel.
But I'm digressing with my tirade against revisionist filmmakers who are only interested in their own tunnel-vision point of view. The hostage situation leads to a massacre, and a big explosion. The explosion blasts Toxie (who was trying to save the 'special' children) into the parallel universe of Amortville, and dumps the evil Noxious Offender in Tromaville. Noxie causes absolute carnage, ripping off the arms of the police chief, and jamming a crucifix through Mayor Goldberg's skull. So it's up to Toxie to somehow get back to Tromaville and defeat his nemesis. Citizen Toxie may be no Terror Firmer, but it definitely isn't an Episode 1 either. The entire 'School for the very Special' scenes are probably the highlight, but the movie is filled with entertaining scenes. It's also one of the funniest Troma movies ever (unless you count the unintentionally hilarious), with some great one-liners and sight gags. Citizen Toxie is something of a who's who of Troma. Cameos include Lemmy from Motorhead, (the late) Hank the Drunk Angry Dwarf, the Penis Monster, and even Corey Feldman. This shocked me a little. Feldman is a S.A.G. actor, and Troma is a non-S.A.G studio. Feldman uses the psuedonym of Kinky Finkelstein, but someone has to find out it's him sooner or later. Then again, what are they gonna do? Not offer him roles? That's like ringing a prisoner on death-row and telling him that he can't go and feed the pigeons in a park somewhere today. This film also serves up the blood & guts literally by the bucketload for all you gorehounds out there. So grab a copy today.
