The Akina Speed Stars are a group of street racers who claim to be the fastest in Akina. One night, they are approached by another team called the Akagi Red Suns who challenges them to a race. The Takahashi brothers of the Red Suns are very popular and have excellent skills. They want to challenge every team so they can defeat them all and leave a record that no one can beat so they can become legends as street racers. Anyway, one early morning or night, whatever, as the younger Takahashi brother, Keisuke was driving home in his superb FD3S RX-7, he was overtaken by a Hachi Roku (really old car). This pisses him off cos he can't believe that his magnificent RX-7 was defeated by a crappy car. In the meantime, the leader of the Speed Stars, Iketani is desperately practicing his driving so he can defeat the Red Suns in the race. He works at a gas station with 2 younger guys, Itsuki who wants to be a street racer and Takumi who hasn't got a clue about cars and doesn't seem very interested either. Anyway, the boss at the gas station told Iketani that the fastest guy in Akina is a man who drives a Hachi Roku and owns a tofu shop. So, he goes to find the man and finds out that the man is Takumi's father. Then one night, while practicing his driving Iketani gets into an accident where his car is smashed and he is in a neck brace. He goes and asks Takumi's father to race for him against the Red Suns. Takumi's father told him that he might be able to come but it is only a 50/50 chance. On the night of the race, the Hachi Roku shows up at the last minute. Everyone gets excited but they are shocked when Takumi steps out of the car. Takumi tells them that his father sent him to defeat the Red Suns in exchange he gets to take the car with a full tank of gas. Everyone fears that they are going to lose because they think Takumi is a hopeless guy but he told them that he had defeated the Rx-7 once before. Iketani finally realises that Takumi has been driving for the last five years, since he was thirteen, delivering tofu to the hotels. So he puts his faith in Takumi and lets him race. And so the series goes on... |
