Skin Functions
1. Protective: against mechanical injury and penetration from harmful chemicals. Some substances may manage to get through the skin, example : poison ivy, phenol, biocides.
2. Defense: Skin is the first line to defend the disease or any particles that can get through the inside body.
3. Prevention of Dehydration: Skin holds moisture inside it.
4. Maintenance of Body Temperature: Lack of fur is compensated for by extensive capillary networks and sweat glans in our skin.
5. Excretion of Wastes: Sweat glands excrete water and wastes.
6. Reception of Stimuli: Sensory, feel, pressure, temperature, pain.
7. Vitamin D Synthesis: Cholestoral compounds in the skin convert to Vitamin D by the Sun.
