Skin Color
Factors to determine skin color:
1. When Hemoglobin in Red Blood Cells combines with oxygen, it has bright red color. This gives skin a raddish.
2. carotene from fruit, vegetables, and egg yolk is converted to vitamin A in the skin given yellow shack.
3. Melanin is produced by pigment cells (melanocytes) contributing a brown to black color to the skin.
4. Inherited genes contribute to skin color.
Melanin is an important protective screen against the sun. It absorbs UV rays.
1. Suntan- exposure to sun stimulates an increased amount of melanin productions, causing skin becomes darkers.
2. Freckle- an uneven distribution of melanin.
3. Sunburn- the melanin is not able to absorb all UV rays, the result is cell damage.
4  Wrinkles- result from damage due to exposure to the sun over a period of time.
5. Skin cancer- result from excessive exposure to the sun over period of time.
Interesting Fact: Suntan lotion compounds absorbs to the body, closed the living cells, change cell membrane, prevent UV enter underneath cells.
