666: Arrival of the Demons

Prologue

A small boy came barreling through Cosmo Canyon, yelling and shouting, causing quite a commotion in the quiet town.

“Nanaki! Nanaki! Look what I found!” The boy began running up to the observatory where he was sure to find the Guardian of the Canyon. Nanaki’s ears perked up, and he saw the small boy running toward him.

“What is it?’ He asked curiously, looking at the ancient looking book in the boy’s hand, then back at the boy himself.

“Look what I found! I think it’s an Ancient’s book! It has the writing in it that looks similar to it!” Nanaki was about to tell him he was mistaken, for Nanaki was sure he had all the Cetra’s books in existence, but looked down at the book, and was surprised to see that it actually was what looked like the Ancient’s language, the familiar scrawl etched across the worn cover. Picking up the book gently as not to wreck it further, he started leafing through it awkwardly, forgetting about the boy who had brought it, who was chattering about finding it and how he had listened to Nanaki’s teachings about learning the Cetra’s language. The first page was written in English, which was strange, for Nanaki was sure they didn’t know English back then, and it said clearly: Though the seeds of the Cetra are few, we have many to spread. We help them in their noble cause, but our name is rarely said. But in this book contains the knowledge of the Saquri, friend of the Cetra, loyal until the end. -Tahsina Strife. Nanaki stared at the book, jaw-hanging open.

“Auntie Christy, why are you still here? Won’t Uncle Sephiroth be worried?” Christy looked up, her blonde hair streaming in the wind. She smiled slightly at Marlene, who was growing into quite the lady, looking at Christy in concern.

“I’m fine Marlene, I’ll be back at the bar soon.” Christy said kindly, smiling as she looked back at her older brother’s grave. It had been six months since he had been murdered, and she was hoping they wouldn’t have to run into Shinra, or she’d definitely give them a big piece of her mind. A small sad smile formed on her ruby red lips as she knelt down, reading the inscription of his grave, that had touched her so much. His funeral was a huge social event, and it was a far cry than his isolated childhood.

“You still out here?” Christy looked up to see Sephiroth, who looked respectively at her brother’s grave, then turned to her, kneeling down to help her tug out the weeds that accumulated around his heavily flowered grave.

“Let’s go. I’m sure that everyone will be mad at us for making them wait to eat breakfast.” Christy said, and Sephiroth let a small curve come to his lips. Christy gave a slight bow to her older brother’s grave before walking away, Sephiroth’s arm hanging comfortingly on her slim shoulders.

“Cloud…” Cloud looked up to see Aeris, who had a wistful smile on her face.

“Yeah, what’s up Aeris?” He asked, looking back toward the screen that was showing the others eating breakfast and having a good time… without him. He sighed; being dead wasn’t all it was cut out to be.

“Jenova has returned” Aeris whispered, and Cloud looked up at her, confused. Hadn’t they defeated her already?

“What do you mean? We already defeated her, twice!” He stated, and Aeris laughed, a pretty tinkling sound.

“She has been released from her prison... I’m afraid you have to defeat her family and her again.” And before he could say anything, a blinding bright light flashed and he closed his eyes, trying to block it out, then all went black as he sunk into unconsciousness.

“D***! So they’re really coming after Avalanche! S***!” Reeve hissed, slamming his hands on his wooden desk, papers flying everywhere. He heard a knock, and Laura, his secretary, popped in, looking nervously at her employer, who looked very upset.

“Do you need anything sir?” She squeaked, looking worried at Reeve's rare display of coarse language. She had never once heard him say anything vile, but something must have riled up bad.

“No. Sorry if I worried you, but could you please get Reno on the line?” Laura nodded, and closed the door softly. Reeve sighed, and rubbed his goatee thoughtfully and worriedly. He would have to be cautious, last time it had caused a death, and Reeve didn’t want that to happen to any of his friends again.

“Sir! I have Reno on line one!” Laura called, and Reeve picked up the phone slowly, dreading what he would have to tell them, knowing it would shatter the peace they had worked so hard for.

Jenova opened her cold black eyes. The capsule of ice they had sealed her in wasn’t going to keep her here. Her coal black eyes sparkled with malice as she thought of those who had banished her from the planet. She smiled evilly, what was supposed to be her lips twisted upwards. She hated to burst their bubble, but a new Jenova was back. An evil laugh rang out through the planet, shaking it to its very core.

~*Author’s Notes*~ Mmm… Lot’s of plotty goodness in this chappie! Yup, be gentle since this is only the prologue, so of course nothing earth shattering is happening. *shrugs* Oh well, more in the next chappie. Tell me what ya thinkie!

Chapter 1: The Plot Unfolds

Tifa looked up in shock, not sure what to think. The planet had abruptly stopped singing its happy song and was now silent. Eerily so. The phone rang, startling her out of her thoughts, and shakily, she picked it up.

“H-H-Hello?” Tifa asked shakily, and she heard Reeve’s voice on the other end, and she told herself to relax, even taking a deep breath.

“Tifa? Is everything alright?” Reeve asked, and dodging the question, she answered with her own.

“Why did you call Reeve? Is something the matter?” Tifa asked in concern, and she heard Reeve sigh heavily, like the knowledge he was going to share with her was a great burden.

“As you know, Shinra had powerful allies, and I think they might try and kill you.” Reeve said so softly that Tifa had to strain to hear him, but she heard him loud and clear.

“What?!” She exclaimed, and Yuffie and Christy decided to walk in, and hearing Tifa’s distressed cry, rushed in.

“What’s up?” Christy asked, trying to get the phone, but she was brushed off as Tifa clutched the receiver tighter, wishing Reeve was joking. But, that annoying nagging feeling was telling her Reeve wouldn’t joke like this.

“Listen, is Reno there? I need to speak with him.” Reeve said in a calm voice, like he had just told her some unimportant thing. Numbly, Tifa turned, searching warily for the redhead Turk, ignoring Christy and Yuffie, who were both demanding to know what was wrong. As if he knew he was being called, Reno entered with a stony Sephiroth, who looked rather uncomfortable as the ex-Turk walked beside him. Sephiroth still wasn’t very open with people, except for Christy. It seemed he had a soft spot for the perky blonde. Sensing the tension in the atmosphere, Reno looked up to meet Tifa’s eyes questioningly.

“Reeve’s on the phone.” Tifa said softly, handing him the phone, and Reno took it, listening to Reeve for a moment, his displeasure showing on his face. Christy and Yuffie hovered over him, wondering what in the world was going on, while Sephiroth was sure he had a pretty good idea from everyone’s expressions.

“Open your eyes clone.” He obeyed and opened his eyes warily, blinking repeatedly to see clearer. When his hazy vision finally cleared, the blurry figure turned out to be an unfamiliar face in front of his capsule. The man pushed a blinking button, and the door opened, dumping James on the floor. He coughed up some of the liquid, but then stood straight up, not wanting to show weakness.

“Huh, like it in there James?” The mystery man sneered, while James shrugged. He felt stronger than he did before. Maybe now would be the ideal time for revenge. He could feel Mother’s comforting presence, and three more like hers…

“Why did you wake me? This better be important.” James snapped, while the man just made a tsk, tsk sound, shaking his head. James hadn’t meant to come out of that capsule till he was sure he had reached his maximum potential. That would be the ideal time to get revenge against Avalanche who had killed his beloved Annita.

“Someone should have taught you manners. I am President Edmund of the company Shadows. We are an ally of Shinra, and will help you restore Shinra to its former glory.” Edmund stated, looking pleased with himself, but then again, it seemed he always looked smug.

“Oh, rounding up the circus sir?” James said sarcastically, while Edmund grinned, the barb not bothering him at all what the clone thought of his ties with Shinra, as long as he helped rebuild it.

“You could say that. It would help us both if Shinra was back. We both want the death of Avalanche, and why not work together? You’ll have a better chance of getting your revenge.” Edmund stated, eyeing James, daring him to chicken out. It seemed that this ‘Edmund’ had done his research well. James sighed, he had to admit that Edmund’s deal seemed tempting, and a little logical.

With a little hesitation, he finally said, “Deal.” They shook on it, both grinning at the thought of besting Avalanche. Shinra would be born again, Edmund knew, now that he had someone to work for him; he would be able to finally get rid of that pesky group Avalanche and Shinra would be reborn!

Cloud woke up, just outside the newly built metal gates of Midgar. He opened the gates slowly and cautiously, walking in on the way to Sector 5. Nothing much had changed, he noted, looking around. Sure, the place looked more respectable now, nice little cottages lined up, but the stench of mako was still lingering in the air. He noticed people were glancing at him, and whispering, pointing to his sword and the spiky hairdo. He shrugged it off, still getting used to the feeling of using his legs again. In the Lifestream, he had just floated about, or willed himself somewhere, he had never walked. Wondering how Jenova was still alive, he continued on his way to Tifa’s bar, hoping she hadn’t moved or anything. Soon he saw the familiar neon sign that read, ‘Hero’s Heaven’. The house was built in the back, so he calmly headed to the back of the bar, but just as he was about to ring the bell, he stopped himself. What would he say to the others? He sighed, and ran a hand through his spiky blonde hair. I mean, what could you say when you were just resurrected from the dead? ‘Hi guys! Good to see you! By the way, Jenova has been reborn.’ Cloud sighed. Just ring the bell Strife! He yelled at himself mentally, and he raised a trembling finger to the small bell.

“So? Anything new? Nanaki! What did you find?” The boy who found the book, named Andy, asked, as Nanaki closed his tired eyes for a moment. He had stayed up late last night, trying to decode and read the book, and that had taken a lot of probing of his mind, and he was certain a headache was coming up.

“There is another race that had a deep bond with the Cetra and planet. As it seems, they were everything the Cetra weren’t, and nothing that the Cetra were.” Nanaki said, closing the book, rubbing his eye awkwardly, trying to see better out of it. Andy looked at him, confused.

“What is that supposed to mean?” He asked, scratching his head. He was never really good at understanding philosophy or logic; after all, he was only a kid.

Nanaki shrugged wearily, opening to book and looking through it randomly, as if to find a hidden meaning in it.

“I need to research some more about this race. I read something about another race that was similar to the Cetra, but I didn’t think it was true…” Nanaki said, trailing off, while Andy looked at him, confused. Nanaki could see that the book was a dairy of Tahsina Strife, but it also seemed like she was doing a documentary on her people, so the people to come would know the truth about the Cetra and their ‘shadows’ as she put it. ‘Their numbers are so short, I fear that our friends will die, and our bond so deep, that we might as well lie down and die too.’ Tahsina wrote, and she was of course, talking about the Cetra. The Saquri seemed to still be prospering, but the Cetra was diminishing, and from what he read, it seemed that it was the work of a virus they had dubbed, ‘Jenova’. From what it seemed, Jenova had killed many Cetra before they had managed to destroy it. But then how could Jenova still have been alive all this time? Nanaki had heard from his Grandfather that Jenova might be a race, not just an individual. Maybe that’s why the planet was so shaky lately, because more Jenova had arrived…

~*Author’s Notes*~ Edmund replacing Rufus? Do not worry, little Rufus fans, for I am one too, and he can never be replaced! *ahem* well, anyway, I had to have another bad guy. It’s just more fun that way. *looks thoughtful* Edmund, out of all the names out there I have to name him *Edmund*.

Chapter 2: Never thought I’d see you Again…

“Hello?” Yuffie asked as she opened the door. To her surprise, she saw a familiar spiky blonde haired figure dressed in the infamous purple suit. She blinked repeatedly, sure it wasn’t. I mean, he was dead! “Cloud?” she asked doubtfully, and the illusion even grinned sheepishly just like he used to, and scratched the back of his neck. This was one realistic illusion…

“Um…hi?” Cloud stated, and that was it. Yuffie let out a stifled squeal, and promptly launched herself at him, laughing until tears ran down her cheeks. He was real, and he had finally shown his face again.

“It really is you!” Yuffie cried happily, still hanging on Cloud’s neck, giving him a bone crushing hug. Startled a little, Cloud hugged her back a little. It was good to be back…

“You’re never going to believe this!” Christy said, leading Barret and Marlene to the kitchen, where Cloud was currently talking to Tifa and Yuffie, while Sephiroth just sat there, disinterested in the whole thing. She’d have to jolt him out of his musings soon enough. It wouldn’t do to have someone so silent at a happy reunion time.

“What is it? Is it a surprise! I love surprises!” Marlene exclaimed opening the door to peek in. Yup, this is a surprise all right, a big one. Christy thought as she heard Marlene squeal, “Uncle Cloud!”

Barret’s head snapped up and he asked, “Spike?” He too, looked in the kitchen to see that Cloud was indeed sitting there, know rubbing the back of his head sheepishly.

“Uncle Cloud!”  Marlene said, and then jumped onto Cloud’s lap, making all the wind come out of him, and then she proceeded to squeeze the life out of him. “Geez Uncle Cloud! Everyone was so sad! Now everything is gonna be fine!” Marlene said happily, giving Cloud another squeeze, turning him an interesting shade of blue before she released him.

“Good ta’ see your spiky arse again.” Barret boomed, giving Cloud a hearty slap on the back that nearly sent him sprawling. Tifa, Yuffie, and Christy giggled, while Sephiroth just grinned a little. What a touching reunion.

James walked down a narrow corridor to the ‘secret hideout’ that was housing people still loyal to Shinra. If he got through to them, they would spread the word, and thus, helping him get closer to his revenge. Annita, I will avenge you. Annita… please forgive me… He thought, pushing the double doors open, he stepped into the small room that reeked of alcohol and smoke that was so think it made a fog. He sat down, and noticed seemed a man who drew the most attention was the redhead in the corner, who had a hat covering his face, only showing his mouth. Huh, he looks like a regular bad boy. He thought, and turned to the guy sitting next to him, and decided he would start conversation.

“Hey, have you heard that Shinra’s rebuilding?” James whispered to a man who was nursing a cup half full of liquor. The man looked at him, eyes wide, like James was his hero or something.

“Did you just say that Shinra’s rebuilding?” The man said, unable to keep his excitement back. James smiled in triumph, knowing this guy had taken the bait. He looked like the type who couldn’t keep a secret to himself.

“Yup, but you didn’t hear it from me. But anyway, a guy like you wouldn’t be interested, am I right?” The guy shook his head looking anything but such. “Alright, I’ll tell you. They’re looking for loyal employees, people that can work good and hard. I don’t know about you, but I’m going to go to the old Shinra headquarters first thing in the mourning.”

“You mean the underground one?” the man asked, looking like a child who had gotten an ice cream cone. Noticing that the redhead was looking in his direction, he decided that it was time to leave. James nodded, and then turned to leave, his trench coat swishing.

Reno narrowed his eyes after James left, having heard everything he had said. So, Reeve’s friend was telling the truth. He also got up and walked away from the crowd, grinning and smiling at the women who tried to block his path, but got out of the bar anyway.

“So, what did you find out?” Yuffie asked, jumping down from one of the crevices that had formed in the cement wall that the corridor was made from.

“Huh, should have known you’d follow me kid. Do you really find me that irresistible?” Reno said, smirking while Yuffie scowled at him.

“C’mon! Don’t make me puke! I just want to know what the big buzz is before everyone else!” Yuffie said, tapping her foot impatiently, like a mother waiting for her child to confess it was him who took the cookies from the cookie jar. Reno looked at her in annoyance, and sighed, rolling his aquamarine eyes.

“Yeah, yeah, just let me tell Reeve first.” Reno said, swatting her hands away from him when she tried to snatch his phone. He dialed Reeve’s number, before getting his secretary. “Yo, Laura, yeah it’s me, Reno.” He said, and he heard Laura’s delighted squeal. “Listen doll, I gotta talk to your boss real quick, okay. We can talk later.” He said, trying hard not to look at Yuffie, who was making kissing noises and such. He heard Reeve click on the line, and he said, “Your guess was true boss. They’ve already got people spreading the word. Tomorrow, they’re going to begin rebuilding tomorrow. Sure boss, I’ll tell everyone, though they’re not going to like it.”

“What!” Everyone in the room but Sephiroth exclaimed, and Reno winced.

“Shadow is back.” Reno let his words hang, eyeing each and everyone one of them, showing them he was deadly serious.

“Shadow? What the heck is Shadow?” Yuffie snapped irately, crossing her arms across her chest. She didn’t like the way Reno had said this ‘corporation’s’ name. Probably some big cover up or something.  Well, as far as Yuffie knew, anyone with ties to Shinra was bad news.

“Shadow is just what it implies. A little know corporation that trains the best assassins and Turks Shinra has ever seen. Another thing. They’re extremely loyal and lethal, so they’re probably after you right now, and they’re not exactly push overs you know.” Reno stated, his face carefully blank instead of his usual sarcastic and grinning face. Everyone glanced around, but then everyone’s eyes rested on Cloud who looked troubled.

“Well, this good old company isn’t the only thing that has decided to rise from the grave.” Cloud said grimly, and everyone else groaned. Who else could be coming back to haunt them?

“Jenova.” Sephiroth said softly, and everyone looked at him in shock. He didn’t look at all troubled to the untrained eye, but Christy knew this news shook him to the very core.

“This is all fine and dandy, but does anyone sense deja vu? I mean, hello! If Jenova just come back, we can beat her again like last time, right? And besides! This ‘Shadow’ thing can’t be that bad. If they were so good, someone would have heard of them!” Yuffie exclaimed, and Barret glanced at her, his face scowling.

“It’s not tha’ easy. If it was, don’ ya’ think they wouldn’ have sent Spike back?” Barret asked, trying suppressing the urge to go and destroy this Shadow himself. He never had much love for Shinra supporters and workers. Why couldn’t they accept that Shinra was dead?

“Barret has a point.” Tifa said, talking for the first time since they had mentioned Jenova. “Just one of them wouldn’t scare the planet this badly.” Tifa said softly, and everyone looked uneasily at each other.

“Are you saying there is more than one Jenova?” Christy asked, dreading the answer. If there was more than one Jenova… she glanced back at Sephiroth and Cloud, both of them had clenched their jaws, affirming everyone’s fears.

“Well, instead of being depressed and everything, let’s go wreck Shadow now! No way is Shinra coming back while I’m here!” Yuffie stated, jumping up excitedly. It had been a long time since anyone in Avalanche had a good fight.

“I second that notion, but maybe you want to hear this first.” Everyone turned to the doorway, and there in all his glory, stood Nanaki.

~*Author’s Notes*~ *yawn stretch* tired, and too lazy to write anything. Just read and review, please. *yawn*

Chapter 3: The Saquri and Jenova’s Children

Edmund grinned down upon the loyal people who had come back to Shinra. They would help restore his ally to its former glory! He turned to James, who nodded. Taking a deep breath, the crowd quieted, intent gazes on Edmund’s face. And he wouldn’t have it any other way.

“Good followers of Shinra! I have called you here today so that you can help rebuild Shinra to its former glory! So help me, and show me what you are made of.” Edmund said, smirking down at the people who were cheering. This couldn’t get any better. What gullible fools they were. Not that he cared. They were going to help him get back to the position of being under the glorious influence of Shinra with their help! He turned back to James and said, “Find your squad soon; I want to get rid of Avalanche as soon as possible. And be on your toes, Avalanche is sure to be here.” James nodded, and headed down to the crowd of people. He was internally disgusted. He no longer had the luxury of thousands of trained soldiers to pick from, and was left to scavenge big people who thought they were so tough. James sighed, and began the very painful selection from the meager group he had.

“So you’re telling me that Cloud, Yuffie, and me are ‘Saquri’. What in the world is that?” Christy asked, and Nanaki sighed. They had been over this countless of times, but it seemed Christy didn’t want to believe she wasn’t human. Everyone was silent, Tifa eerily so as she twisted her shirt nervously.

“But don’t you remember Aunt Grace? Mom always said she was ‘special’, so is it really that hard for you to believe?” Cloud asked, and Christy sighed. She guessed she had just like being plain old human, blending in. She shuddered in remembering what her older brother had told her happened to that kind hearted Cetra, Aeris. She didn’t like the thought of being experimented on like a common insect or something.

“I guess not. But why wasn’t I aware of this earlier?” Christy asked, and Nanaki gave her a wolfish grin. He flipped to a certain yellowed page in the beat up book, and nudged it front of Christy, Cloud, and Yuffie, who had been eerily silent throughout the whole thing. Sephiroth looked at the book with interest, raising an eyebrow at its contents, while Tifa looked away, like the Saquri’s writing pained her.

“Read this.” Nanaki said, leaning back, and Christy flustered. Everyone’s eyes had rested on her, and she was embarrassed, even if she loved being the center of attention.

“‘Ginga has finally sprouted from the moist soil of the giving planet. The high priestess Kisargi has proclaimed today will be a holiday, and everyone was laughing and having a good time. It was so beautiful, even the planet seemed to rejoice. It was singing a tune I hadn’t heard since I was a small child. All was right with the world until an evil shadow fell upon the festivities. The birds stopped singing, everything was eerily quiet, and we felt the tremor pass through the frightened planet. It had come, the plague foretold in the prophecies. The akuma we would dub Jenova later in life had arrived.’” Everyone had been silent when Yuffie had read that part of the journal, staring intently at the young ninja before them. Nobody could quite place their finger on it, but something in her had awakened, and when Yuffie looked up, her usually mischievous eyes held a glint of burdening knowledge in them. Nanaki smiled knowingly, and turned to Barret suddenly.

“Now Barret, I want you to read this part.” Nanaki said, tapping a claw on a random paragraph, and Barret grinned. It should be easy right, if Yuffie had read it. But instead of seeing similar words, they all blurred together, looking like a two year old had scrawled messily in it then colored over it.

“How am I s’posed ta’ read this?” Barret asked, and Nanaki looked at him with a knowing smile that Barret wished he could wipe right off his face.

“You’re not. That was Saquri Yuffie just read.” Nanaki said, and Yuffie looked at him in shock. She had just read a language that most couldn’t? It had just looked like plain English to her…

“If that’s Saquri, how come you can read it?” Cloud asked, curiosity getting the best of him. Nanaki sighed, closing the book, signifying that wasn’t a subject that would be discussed now.

“It has little meaning. Now we have more allies for our cause.” Sephiroth stated flatly, looking at Christy who was still looking at the book, awestruck. Such a dingy looking thing couldn’t possibly be from the all-powerful Cetra. Christy looked at Tifa, going to ask her if it was true, but the Ancient seemed far away, her eyes clouded with hidden pain.

James grinned down at his new team he had formed. The name Poison had been chucked out the window and had been replaced with the name, Jenova’s Children, for his mother. He grinned evilly. He felt her strong presence vibrating, calling out to him, saying the time was almost near for his revenge. His grin went wider. Before he would rescue mother, he would get his team into shape.

The first one was named Chris, and he was a master with the scythe. He was a loud character, with brown hair and hazel eyes, and his appearance didn’t match his personality, well, in James opinion.

Then there was a girl, named Malanda, and she was something to behold with magic. She had ice-blue-blonde hair, and cold brown eyes, and she was quiet, which James saw as a blessing. Having two loud-mouthed punks was more than he could handle.

‘Blade’, as he called himself, was blond and had blue eyes, and like Chris was loud. Even though, he was a good fist fighter and was mighty handy with a gun.

There was another guy whose name was Brad, brown hair and brown eyes, he recognized him as the one who had ‘delivered’ that girl Christy to him. His specialty was the sword, which he had named some weird name that he didn’t care to remember.

The next to last girl was named Natalia, and she was very talented with a rod, and she had spunk. She had purple hair with gold/hazel eyes, and he was sure that her hair was dyed. Not that he cared.

He turned to last girl, Lucy, who had dark hair and green eyes. She was the friend of ‘Blade’ and he liked her. She was nice, not brash like Annita, but she still had an attitude. She was good with an electrical whip, which was deadly indeed. James smiled evilly to himself; knowing that Mother and Annita would be pleased with this little group. He could grow to like this team…

“We attack now, right?” Yuffie asked, as the others gathered in Reeve’s office. Reeve had been told about the current situation, and was looking thoughtful. Mostly everyone felt that Reeve should have a say if they should destroy the Shinra loving company. After all, it was kind of his jurisdiction.

“I suppose you can attack, but don’t you want to know our current situation?” Reeve stated, and everyone glanced uneasily at each other. There was more bad news…? “It seems that Shadow has a group of silent assassins. Bigger than the Turks, and more ruthless. They don’t get paid for killing, they love it.” Reeve stated, and Christy looked up.

“What does this have to do with us?” She asked, and Cloud looked at her silently, an eyebrow raised as if to ask, ‘don’t you know?’.

“Everything. If we destroy Shadow, very dangerous people will come after you. I would personally like to know everything about this group before I send you to battle out Shadow.” Reeve stated, and everyone else nodded in agreement. Leave it to Reeve to be logical.

“So what are you proposing?” Nanaki asked, and Reeve sighed, rubbing his temples, as if trying to soothe away the headache that was coming from thinking about troubling matters too much.

“I think,” Reeve said finally, “that one of you, I think Yuffie would be best,” Yuffie smiled happily, “to send to the rebuilding Shinra building and try and get files.” Reeve ended, looking up for support, and from Yuffie’s beaming face, he knew he had her support.

“It seems the practical thing to do.” Sephiroth stated, and Christy agreed instantly. Cloud looked at them both, wondering why his sister seemed to agree with anything the silver haired general agreed with. Barret nodded silently. He didn’t care how they got there, as long as they got to destroy Shinra once and for all.

“So how do we do this anyway? I mean, we need a distraction, don’t we?” Reno asked, furrowing his eyebrows as he thought.

“Oh, distraction. I have what you need.” Everyone turned around, to see a familiar figure, a smirk curving her lips.

~*Author’s Notes*~ Saquri! I thought it was such a cool name! It took me a long time to thinkie of that name, because my first name for them was like a rip off of an Indian tribe, and I respect different cultures. Well, anyway, Jenova’s Children? Can you say, inspiration has run dry? Yea, I know, sad. Anyway, who is the mysterious person offering a distraction? Find out next chappie! Read and Review peeps!

Chapter 4: Face off! Jenova’s Children vs. Avalanche!

“Elena? What are you doing here?” Reno asked, surprised to see his ex fellow Turk so soon. He figured she had gone into hiding, mourning Rude’s… death by herself. The memory was still fresh and painful to Reno.

“To make sure Shinra stays dead, what else?” Elena asked in a crisp tone, and it became apparent instantly that she had changed a great deal since Rude’s death. For one thing, she seemed surer of herself, and her eyes no longer held any naivety in them.

“Doesn’t everyone want that these days?” Christy asked, trying to break the tension that had decided since the blonde had shown up. Everyone was looking at her suspiciously, except for Reeve, Reno, Sephiroth, and Tifa, Sephiroth calm, Reeve and Reno stunned, while Tifa was starring blankly at the journal Nanaki had shown everyone. Elena smiled slightly, but the show of emotion was gone in a flash.

“I suppose we could use some inside help. What do you have in mind?” Cloud asked after a while, mistrust evident in his eyes as he stared at Elena critically.

“You think you’re the only ones who lost something when Shinra was destroyed? Luckily, a lot of them are willing to help us. Kinda like a rebel group of sorts.” Elena said, putting a thoughtful finger to her lips and cocking her head. “They’re just lacking proper… leadership.” Elena stated after a pause, as if searching for the right words, but Reeve, Reno, and Sephiroth knew she was just trying to flatter Cloud a bit to make him underestimate her forces. Surprise was always a favored tactic by the blonde, not being much of a physical fighter herself.

“What kind of distraction do you have in mind?” Reeve asked, hoping for nothing too dangerous. It wouldn’t do to have another one of his friends killed in the same building. Nanaki nodded, having the same precautions in mind. He didn’t think he would stay though, whatever course of action they would take. He had to get back to the Cosmo Canyon soon.

“Nothing fancy, just a break in.” Elena said mischievously, and even if Barret didn’t like anyone who had any connections with Shinra, he had to admit, she had the style he liked.

“Now tha’s ma’ type of break in!” Barret exclaimed, stirring up everyone else in the room who thirsted for action.

“Let’s do it!” Christy cheered, Yuffie and her already jumping up and down excitedly.

“Hold it.” Everyone looked at Sephiroth, whose voice commanded respect, and it was apparent why he used to be a general. “Instead of breaking in plain in sight, shouldn’t we devise a strategy?” Sephiroth asked, and Nanaki and Reeve nodding in agreement.

“But we should strike now!” Elena persisted, and Cloud stood up, a hush falling over the room. Instantly, every gaze fell on Cloud.

“I agree with both parties. Sephiroth, devise some strategy and Elena, get your forces together. We strike tonight.” Cloud settled, no one having any argument there.

“Yuffie, master ninja and materia thief, has finally been given a mission! My talents have been noticed.” Yuffie whispered happily, creeping along the brightly lit corridors of the Shinra building. The place reeked of cleaners and fresh paint or whatever they used on the walls. It was a quick get in and out mission, but it still sent adrenaline pumping through her veins. So far, no one had noticed Yuffie at all, which she thought was suspicious, but didn’t want to question her luck. Taking a cautious peek around, and relieved to see no on watching her, Yuffie quickly scampered up the thickly carpeted stairs that led to Rufus’s old office. The very thought sent an unpleasant shiver down her spine. She hadn’t forgotten when he had nearly shot her just because she annoyed him. A quick scan of the room informed her it was empty, and with the ninja swiftness she had trained for, Yuffie had top secret files tucked away safely in the folds of her Shinra uniform she had gotten off an unconscious guard. Straightening with glee, Yuffie stood up, about to leave when a familiar cold voice sounded, accompanied by the all too familiar sound of a gun being loaded.

“Well, well, well. If it isn’t the little ninja spy. Come for revenge too?” Yuffie slowly turned around, only to see the smug face of blonde haired man. “Well, where are your friends?” he asked, and Yuffie glared at him.

“Like I’m going to tell you.” Yuffie retorted bravely, her hand inching toward her shuriken. The thought of a fight got the adrenaline circling in her veins, like it always did. Her fingers itched to grab her shuriken, but the guy’s gun was pointed straight at her head.

“Let me rephrase that: tell me or you die.” Edmund stated, and suddenly the adrenaline had left her veins as quickly as it came.

“We go left, and you go right.” Cloud stated with authority, pointing Elena’s rebel group down the right corridor, Avalanche taking the left. A boom rocked the Shinra building, signifying Elena and her group were actually causing a decent distraction. They hadn’t had any Shinra guards to run into, which was suspicious. Where was everybody? As if to answer their question, a familiar figure stepped out of the shadows, grinning madly.

“Well, well, well. If it isn’t Avalanche sticking their noses where they don’t belong.” James mocked, and Avalanche got into battle stances.

“Seems you got another rag tag team together.” Reno observed, and James grinned, gesturing toward the group of people he had selected carefully and painfully.

“We are Jenova’s Children. You should know our name before you die.” James said in a smug voice, and Christy rolled her eyes. She looked at Tifa, raising her voice barely above a whisper.

“Now I know what Yuffie means ‘deja vu’.” She stated, and Tifa nodded, a grin on her face.

“Shall we get started then?” A cocky brown haired man with hazel eyes asked, pulling out a scythe, like some grim reaper. With a battle yell, Jenova’s Children darted forward, meeting Avalanche head on.

“So your name is Lucy? Interesting…” Tifa stated, facing her advisory, who had a whip poised and ready for an attack. Lucy didn’t say anything, just glared angrily at Tifa like she had just found out her worst secret. With a small grin, Tifa pulled her sword out of her sheath, waiting for Lucy to attack. With a battle cry, Lucy charged forward, whip twirling around, electricity breaking the air. Snapping her wrist down, her sword clashed with the metal electricity whip, and Tifa swung around, her elbow breaking into Lucy’s delicate nose, sending the girl flying backward.

“Look out!” Tifa turned around only to have a rod come crashing onto her temple. With a curse, Barret aimed his gun arm at the girl, shooting like mad. Dodging out of the way, the purple haired girl jumped out of the way, still brandishing her rod. An energy ball came rushing forward, shoot by a black, cold-eyed girl who was eyeing Avalanche coldly, ignoring James and Sephiroth, who were locked in battle. Clangs of a scythe and buster sword rang through the corridor where Cloud and a scythe wielder battled, both with equal wounds on their bodies. With expert aim, Christy shoot the girl’s rod out of her hand as she came dashing forward, Barret as her target. Glaring, the girl got into a pose behind the magic girl, who stepped forward, arms raised.

“Enough!” startled, everyone turned around to see the new voice.

“Yuffie!” Everyone exclaimed, seeing the young ninja struggling in a blonde man’s vice like grip, a gun pointed to her head.

“Turn the Ancient over and I will let her go free.” Edmund sneered, and everyone looked back uneasily at Tifa, who seemed oddly calm about the whole ordeal.

“I’ll go.” Tifa stated, and everyone looked at her in horror, while Edmund just smirked confidently. “Let the rest of them go too.” Tifa said, gesturing toward Cloud and the others.

“Whatever you say.” Edmund said, flicking back a strand of loose hair, and letting Yuffie go as James grabbed Tifa’s arms. Ignoring Reno and Cloud’s vicious glares, James dragged her over to Edmund, motioning for Jenova’s Children to follow.

“We should go.” Sephiroth stated, and Yuffie looked up at him angrily.

“I just got Tifa captured! Shouldn’t we do something?” Yuffie asked guiltily, but Cloud shook his head, still staring after where Tifa had last been. She would be alright, he reasoned, why else would she let herself be captured so easily?

Reeve eyed the papers critically, sizing up the companies on the list and then he turned back to the gang, his face a little relaxed.

“There is nothing much to worry about. These are only minor companies, and I doubt they would send anyone after us. Excellent work, to all of you, especially to you, Yuffie.” Reeve stated, trying to lure the young ninja out of guilt with praise, but she only shrugged.

“Do we get ta’ attack now?” Barret asked, exasperated. He was used to having things go his way, him being the leader.

“Do you think it would be wise?” Reeve countered, and Barret looked uncomfortable, searching the room for any support.

“We just attacked now, didn’t we? Hold your chocobos. We will wait.” Sephiroth stated, leaning his head back against the couch cushion, looking relatively at ease. Christy looked at him, deciding no matter what he said; he really did have some medicine to make him so calm.

“But Tifa…” Reno said, and Yuffie flinched, the guilt coming back full force. Stupid emotion, Yuffie thought angrily, making me feel so guilty.

“She must have had a reason.” Christy said, trying to be optimistic, and Sephiroth cracked an eye open.

“She did. Surely you have felt the planet’s unease, now that you know your heritage.” Sephiroth stated, looking at the Saquri who were shifting uneasily foot to foot.

“Now that you mention it, the planet is quiet.” Cloud said, and the non-Saquri looked at each other.

“Care to enlighten the ones who aren’t gifted?” Reno asked sarcastically, and Yuffie looked at him with a probing glance, her guilt forgotten for a second as the same shift occurred in her.

“More Jenova are being sent to the planet.” Yuffie stated, and everyone looked at her in shock. Since when was she so ‘in tune’ with the planet, and so, so… wise?

“More Jenova? Do ya’ mean there are more?” Barret asked in disgust, and Yuffie nodded, curling into a ball.

“Great, the more the merrier.” Christy said sarcastically.

“Excuse me.” People looked at Elena in surprise, like they all had forgotten she was there. “One of my workers informed me that the new scientist, Koji, is experimented on another type of Jenova.” Elena said, and Christy shivered, remembering how that evil scientist had injected her with Jenova cells. That didn’t mean she belonged to a different Jenova, did it?

~*Author’s Notes*~ *blinks* Is it just me, or did I write a chapter with an actually acceptable battle? *gasp shock horror* Oh yea, Elena’s in here. Big part of the story, if you really wanna know. Hi Elena fans! *waves idiotically* Well, till next time peeps.

Chapter 5: Jenova, Sisters, and their Children

“Yea! We captured the Ancient!”   Natalia said happily, while Chris grinned along with her, both celebrating while James eyed them in disgust.

“You forget that our work isn’t finished.” James stated sourly, and both of them glanced at each other then settled down.

“So what are you saying? That we go out and captured the rest of Avalanche?” Malanda said coldly, now one of the rare times she actually spoke.

“Koji has discovered another form of Jenova, and he believes this one is older, thus stronger. We should go down right now for an injection.” James stated, and everyone flinched, remembering how that happened when they had agreed to join ‘Jenova’s Children’. To tell the truth, they didn’t believe in Jenova, just in Shinra, and if they were fit to be on a special team, well, no one was complaining. So, they warily followed James down to the lab, which was littered with notes, vials, and strange looking instruments that looked straight out of an evil scientist’s lab.

“Ah, my favorite specimens.” Koji stated happily, and everyone but James shuddered to themselves. They had worked for Shinra one time or another, and all had met Hojo, all unwillingly. It wasn’t hard to believe Koji was the brother of the deceased mad scientist. “So, who wants to go first?” Koji cackled, rubbing his hands together, an evil glint in his eyes. Jenova’s Children looked at each other uneasily, not sure who would be Koji’s first victim.

After a last blast of power, Jenova was free! She smiled evilly to herself, turning to look at the stars. Her sisters would be here soon, she could feel it. Then she’d finally be able to put an end to the stupid Cetra race! Another smug smile appeared on her lips. It was too bad that the pesky group Avalanche had sealed her away before she knew the full extent of her powers. Then she surely would have destroyed them!

“First things first,” Jenova said out loud to no one in particular, “time to greet my sisters.” Jenova cackled before disappearing in a thick cloud of mist.

Nanaki looked up from his books on the Cetra. After Avalanche had devised their plans, he had headed straight back to the Canyon, intent on finding out everything about the Cetra and the Saquri. A tremor had passed through the planet, and Nanaki was certain that Jenova was behind all of this. The problem was, how would they defeat more Jenova? Sure, there was the Cetra limit break, but would it work with the Saquri? In the books he head been engrossed in, they often mentioned that the Saquri and Cetra had some things in common, but that didn’t apply to limit breaks, did it? From what Nanaki could gather, the Cetra were the science and planting people, while the Saquri were the warriors. It would definitely explain how Cloud had been able to survive being impaled by Sephiroth. Nanaki looked out the window again, his good eye probing the sky. Grandfather, he thought solemnly, please help me understand all of this.

“Okay, here we are again. The happy Shinra building.” Yuffie said sourly. She really didn’t feel like kicking a** when Tifa was in a cell somewhere, being injected with things. Dumb emotion guilt. After Elena had confirmed their suspicions, they set off for a rescue/destroy mission. Destroy as in the Jenova things and rescue as in Tifa. Yuffie crept silently, following the blonde Turk, trying hard not to glare too much at her. Even though Elena had been helpful, Yuffie still didn’t trust her.

“Jus’ shut ya’ mouth. We don’ need ya’ to complain all the way.” Barret mumbled, and Yuffie glared at him. Let’s just say their personalities didn’t mix well when under strain.

“Here we are.” Elena stated, in front of a locked cell, with no guards. Yuffie thanked whoever was watching over them they hadn’t been attacked by guards, even if they were push-overs. The door swung open as soon as Elena punched in the right numbers, and sure enough, there was Tifa, looking up at the expectantly.

“What took you so long?” Tifa asked with mock exasperation, and Christy grinned. Someone was pretty calm taking the current situation. Obviously Koji and Rufus had been too busy to come and pay their worst enemy a visit.

“The guys were hungry, and you know how long that takes.” Christy joked, and was glared at by the opposite gender. “Geez, can’t you take a joke?” Christy asked defensively.

“Now is not the time for humor.” Sephiroth stated, walking down the hall, Christy flushed, but turned to rush after him.

“Talk about tense.” Reno commented, looking at Sephiroth’s retreating back.

“C’mon! I wanna get back to my warm bed as soon as possible.” Yuffie whispered, following the rest of the gang, back to her normal, non guilt ridden self now that Tifa was safe and sound.

“Tell me that you have a password for this.” Christy mumbled, a complicated keypad settled in by the side of an inch thick steel door, a sign marked, ‘Jenova2’ was plastered on it.

“Don’t need one.” Tifa said cheerfully, putting a hand on the electronic keypad, zapping the thing to pieces. They stepped into a freezer cold room, and capsules lined the walls,

“I-I-It’s could in here. C-C-Can’t we go b-b-b-back?” Yuffie complained, and Barret looked at her with a disgusted expression.

“A little cold is good for ya’.” He stated, following Tifa as she walked up and down the room, examining the capsules that held forms that they couldn’t distinguish.

“Why would Koji want to keep creatures like this?” Cloud wondered aloud, and Tifa plopped down in a practically frozen chair and began hacking away.

Sephiroth looked over her shoulder and said, “To do experiments. It seems he injected people with Jenova2’s cells so that they would be stronger than the Jenova we know.” Reno whistled, and walked over to a capsule to peer at the person floating around in it more clearly. Yuffie looked up at one and grinned. Leaning over so that she could see the glass, she began tapping on it.

“Wake up sleepy head.” She said cheerfully, and as if it heard her, the thing opened its eyes, which were blood red.

“Holy s***!” Yuffie and Reno exclaimed together, and the creature began to bang against its prison.

Elena said, “I think it would be a good time to retreat.” The others began a hasty ran, but a security door slammed shut on the ground.

“Security breech! Security breech!” the alarm screamed, and a red light began blinking.

“Good job kid, now we might die thanks to you!” Reno exclaimed, as he and the others were trying to break down the door. But, of course it didn’t work. The door was solid steel, and at least 3 feet thick.

“Well sorry! I didn’t know the thing would wake up!” Yuffie complained, and the capsule broke open, dumping the demonic creature on the floor. It gave an ear splitting howl, and the glass to most of the other containers broke open too, dumping out the rest of his demonic friends. With growls, they stood up, and to Avalanche’s surprise, one spoke.

“Mesh muc apo iehja?” one growled in a deep, raspy voice, and it made Elena cringe inwardly.

“What did it say?” Yuffie whispered, and to her surprise, Tifa talked to it in the same deep and raspy voice.

“Mio auht iahte eia.” She said, and the creature growled angrily, eyes flashing and claws stretching with strain.

“Tifa, I hope what you said was a greeting.” Reno said nervously, looking at the vicious looking creatures, but Sephiroth shook his head.

“These creatures are Jenova, and they want to complete the task the were sent to do.” Sephiroth said, and Cloud looked a little nauseous.

“They want to eliminate the Saquri and the Cetra, right?” Cloud asked, and Sephiroth nodded, making Cloud, Yuffie, and Christy pale considerably.

“Mother!” James exclaimed, seeing his mother pop out of nowhere, an evil smile on her face. He almost didn’t recognize her, but then again, he could feel the aura she radiated. Pure evil.

“My child, I see you have been faithful to me. Your rewards will be great.” Jenova said, her voice sweet yet full of malevolence. James smiled slightly, remembering Annita. That would surely be his reward. “Now child, my sisters will certainly be here soon. That stupid Cetra and her friends have found her children.” Jenova said, and James looked at her startled.

“Sisters?” He asked, along with the rest of ‘Jenova’s Children’, who were looking at each other uneasily. There were more of these crazy aliens? As if reading their minds, Jenova turned to them, her eyes flashing.

“As flattering as it is to think that I am one of a kind, there are more. I’m not ‘crazy’ as you would say it. You do best to remember that.” Jenova hissed, starring straight at Malanda, who glared back. Obviously there was already bad blood between them.

“Ladies, ladies. Fight later. Now is the time to attack Avalanche, am I right?” Blade asked, cocking his head, his blue eyes wide and mischievous.  Jenova smiled kindly at him, a smile that didn’t reach her cold black eyes.

“Yes my child, you are right. Now is the ideal time for revenge.” Jenova said, cackling evilly while Lucy glared at Blade angrily, like she knew something horrible was going to happen.

Elena gritted her teeth as sweat rolled down her forehead. Geez! These guys were though! It took about 55 bullets to put one away, and at the rate that they were coming, Elena was pretty sure that they’d die. Yuffie had somehow figured out how to use little energy balls, the colored wind was whipping her shoulder length brown hair in front of her eyes. Cloud also seemed to have unlocked the secret, and was using the little balls as best as he could, but Yuffie and him were quickly sapping their energy dry. Tifa seemed to be following the Saquri’s example, and she seemed not to be tired at all. Seemed the planet favored the last full Cetra more than the two Saquri. Christy, like her and Barret, was shooting away at the roaring demons, her face expressionless as she shot one right between the eyes. Barret, of course, was also shooting at the creatures, cursing loudly when they got too close to him for comfort. Reno was frying the beasts with his nightstick, and it looked like the voltage in it was going down, the energy he had to use to do away with one was astounding. Sephiroth was slicing at the things. It seemed to take a lot of strength to take cut through their heavily armored skin, but he still fought valiantly. Elena groaned and began to plug away at the creatures. Soon, all the monsters were dead, littering the floor and stinking up the room, and Yuffie wrinkled her nose.

“Gawd! This stuff smells worse than the sewers!” She declared, trying to daintily stepping over a creature and trying hard not to step in a blood puddle, which was pointless, seeing that blood was everywhere.

“Let’s get out of here before more show up.” Christy suggested, her face showing pity as she looked at the heavily armored creatures that used to be ordinary humans.

“Yea, let’s go.” Tifa agreed, tugging at Reno’s arm, as he stood still, looking at the fallen figures blankly, as if he didn’t remember helping defeat them. Elena certainly hoped that her friend would be all right. She didn’t want to think about losing Reno too, even if he was a pain, he was the only other ex-Turk left she knew.

~*Author’s Notes*~ What was the whole purpose of having Tifa captured if she was only in there for a day? I dunno, you tell me. I thought that was kinda sad. Well, anyway, nighty nighty. I feel my eyelids drooping. Till next time peeps.

Chapter 6: Star Gazing

“President Edmund.” Edmund looked up from his paperwork he had to do and looked at his cackling intercom in annoyance.

“What is it?” He barked, and he almost felt his secretary flinch at his harshness. He smirked. That’s right, he thought smugly, fear me. Like Rufus, he used fear, instead of wasting his precious money. It worked better than money anyway. He didn’t have to worry about being betrayed, the people feared him too much.

“S-S-Sir, A-A-Avalanche broke in and they… they…” the secretary trailed off, obviously fearful of his reaction. On the other hand, Edmund had been expecting this, but where had his guards been? He should speak to the guard leader soon.

“What did they do? Break in and rescue the Cetra? No matter, I will get her soon enough.” Edmund said, smirking as he remembered Jenova’s ‘pleasant visit’ this afternoon. It was nice to know he had a powerful ally, soon to be more when her ‘sisters’ arrived. Funny, he had always thought that she had been the only one.

“They did something else too sir. They destroyed all of the Jenova two specimens Koji was working on.” That got Edmund’s attention.

“What!” he snarled angrily, getting up hastily, heading straight for the guard’s lobby.

“Something bad is going to happen, isn’t it?” Sephiroth looked at Christy startled, as she stared calmly at the stars, which seemed to be looking at each other nervously. The planet wasn’t singing, but it wasn’t crying out in pain either. It was just deathly silent.

“It depends on what we do.” Sephiroth said, neither comforting, even if he wanted to so badly, nor prophesizing doom. He didn’t want her to worry, but his awkward tries to comfort her would most likely be wasted. Christy sighed, looking up at him, and Sephiroth was surprised not to see the twinkling eyes that he had grown to love so much. They looked like shrouded sea, no longer glistening with happiness, but misted with worry. “We’ll make it. I promised I’d protect you, right. You don’t have to worry.” Sephiroth stuttered, not used to giving out reassurance. Christy smiled, closing her eyes and leaning against Sephiroth’s shoulder, a content look on her face.

“Good. That’s all I wanted to hear.” She whispered softly, entwining her fingers with his.

“Hey Natalia! What are you doing out here so late?” Natalia turned around to see Chris’s head poke out the door from the group’s part of the Shinra building.

“Watching the stars.” Natalia said softly, turning her eyes back to the veil of black with glittering stars. It was breath takingly beautiful, and it was such a shame no one else in the Shinra building noticed the beauty that was right under their noses.

“Anything special?” Chris asked, a little joking in his voice as he stood beside her, his hazel eyes also turned skyward.

“Yea, you.” Natalia said flirtatiously, giving Chris a wink before turning back to the stars, a slight blush on her face. She couldn’t believe she just said that!

“Right back at you.” Chris said, slipping an arm around her waist, and for some strange reason, Natalia let him keep it there. It felt oddly comforting, and not wanting to disturb the moment, she said nothing, just soaking in the beauty and simplicity of the moment.

“Isn’t that sweet?” Tifa said dreamily, staring at the same stars that Sephiroth and Christy were looking at. Reno looked at her, an eyebrow raised.

“It’s not nice to spy on the happy couple.” Reno teased, wagging a finger in front of Tifa’s face, as she giggled. She hadn’t meant to find Sephiroth and Christy out here, but then again, she and Reno weren’t the only people who liked to observe the stars.

“I wasn’t spying, just observing.” Tifa stated, while Reno rolled his eyes, plopping down right next to her.

“What’s the difference?” Reno asked, and Tifa shrugged, smiling as she looked at him as he slid an arm over her shoulders, drawing her to his comforting warmth. Serious all of a sudden, she looked at Reno silently, nibbling on her lower lip, a nervous habit.

“Do you think we’ll be able to beat Jenova and her sisters? It was hard enough just beating one.” Tifa stated, and Reno sighed, leaning back and looking up at the stars.

“Of course we will. We have you and the others, right? It can’t be that hard.” Reno said, and Tifa smiled, giving him a playful punch on the arm.

“Since when were you optimistic?” She asked, and he grinned, looking up at the stars.

“Since everybody started to be pessimistic. Have to be a rebel somehow.” Reno stated, and Tifa smiled, looking back at the stars with renewed hope. Maybe Reno was right. Just as things were looking up, a scream startled everyone out of their cozy thoughts.

“Jenova!” Tifa heard Christy scream horrified.

Cloud came running out as soon as Christy’s scream had pierced the air, his sword ready to defend his little sister. When he saw the evil alien however, his jaw dropped, along with his sword.

“J-J-Jenova?” he asked startled, not sure if his eyes deceived him, even though her cold black eyes told him that this really was her. It seemed that she had learned miracle plastic surgery, for she no longer looked like a horrible alien; instead she looked like some model, with wavy green hair and deep black eyes.

“Yes child! What do you think?” Jenova cackled, giving a half twirl, smirking at everyone’s shocked expression.

“It’s the inside that counts you ugly b****!” Yuffie snapped, and Jenova glared at her, then her eyes widened in what seemed like shock.

“You’re a Saquri! What is with the planet today?” Jenova snapped, clearly irritated, and then turned behind her, snapping her fingers. As if on cue, ‘Jenova’s Children’ came out of the shadows, and Yuffie suppressed the urge to cry, ‘they pulled a Vincent!’. “Have fun with your new friends, children!” Jenova cackled, disappearing in a cloud of horrible smelling mist, making Avalanche cough loudly, trying to get the water out of their eyes. With a yell, Jenova’s Children charged out of the mist, weapons and fists raised in battle stances.

“Let’s do this!” Avalanche shouted together, also falling into battle stances.

Elena inwardly cringed as Natalia’s rod came down where she had been seconds earlier with a loud clang. Quickly loading her gun with bullets, she fired two quick shots, missing once and the other getting her on the shoulder, making the purple haired girl glare at her with golden eyes. Twisting around, she turned and brought the rod crashing on her stomach, making the blonde bend over in pain. About to deliver a finishing move, Natalia suddenly jerked forward, blood dribbling down her lips. Startled, Elena looked up, only to see a familiar shuriken lodged into the poor girl’s back.

“Thanks Yuffie.” Elena whispered gratefully as the ninja girl dove down, dodging Malanda’s energy ball as she grabbed her shuriken, giving Elena a quick wink before jumping back up. Elena wouldn’t say that she wasn’t relieved to have Yuffie over whatever grudge she had been holding, and that she had actually helped her out too! Elena turned to notice Chris’s hazel eyes burning with hatred as he stared at the young ninja. Seemed like someone had a crush on the rod swinging girl…

Cloud ducked, barely missing Brad’s incoming sword. Brad swung over again, clanging with Cloud’s buster sword with his own short sword, gritting his teeth as he swung the massive sword away. Twisting his body, Cloud ducked, delivering a quick slash to Brad’s stomach, making him groan in pain, kneeling over, his hands pressed desperately against his wound. Before Cloud could deliver the final blow however, he rolled out of the way, gritting his teeth over to Malanda, who stopped shooting energy balls at Yuffie to heal him. Seems like she is the magic person of the group. Cloud couldn’t fault Brad for the will to live, and he could admire how he actually moved with that wound of his.

Christy paused for a precious second before turning to fire another round of bullets into an unsuspecting enemy when a clammy hand clamped itself over her mouth, startling her into dropping her ammunition.

“I have her, mother.” Christy heard, and she saw a stray piece of dark hair come into her vision. It was that whip girl! What did she want with her? Suddenly, she felt the air around them grow cold, and a familiar presence grew stronger, clouding Christy’s mind like thick smog of smoke.

“Good work my child. This will certainly get us somewhere.” A familiar cold yet sweet voice stated, and Christy’s sea colored eyes widened in shock. Jenova! What did she want to do to her? Before she could ponder this further, she felt herself slowly disappearing, her whole body beginning to burn with fire. Before she disappeared fully, she let out a scream, hoping anyone could come and save her.

“Christy!” Sephiroth shouted, turning away from James, who smirked. He had heard her familiar distressed scream, and it seemed by the look on everyone else’s face that they had too. Everyone had stopped their battling, and were looking toward an alleyway where the same mist Jenova had disappeared in was creeping out of. Jenova had taken Christy! Sephiroth pushed James down on the ground, his sword held to his throat, right on his Adam’s apple. “Where is she taking her for and why?” Sephiroth hissed dangerously, and James laughed cruelly, his eyes showing no fear at all.

“How does it feel to have a loved one taken away from you? How does it feel?” James asked, and Sephiroth pressed his sword tighter against James’ throat until it drew a trickle of blood.

“Tell me!” he hissed again, ignoring James question.

“Sephiroth.” He felt a calm hand on his shoulder, and he turned to see Tifa looking at him in concern, and Sephiroth sheathed his sword, knowing her hidden message. They would get her back, just like they had saved Tifa from that cell, even if it was the easiest rescue Sephiroth had ever performed.

“You’re lucky the lady is here.” Sephiroth snarled, giving James a savage kick to the stomach, making him curl up into a ball before he turned and followed the others, Reno and Cloud trying to support a heavily wounded Barret, Yuffie’s materia not doing any good since Yuffie had run dangerously low on MP.

“I don’ think I should go on.” Barret wheezed, still trying to breath with a huge bandage wrapped around his large waist that was stopping the bleeding from the wound he had received from Chris.

“Why do you say that, Barret?” Cloud asked, and Barret took another wheezy breath before answering.

“I should be a betta’ father ta’ Marlene, and besides, I only get in tha’ way.” Barret stated, and the look on his stubborn face meant he wasn’t going to change his mind.

“If that is what you want to do Barret, its fine with me.” Tifa stated, a knowing expression on her face. Yuffie nodded in agreement, not really sad to see him go. She and Barret had never really gotten along well anyway. After giving Barret a brief farewell, everyone trooped out of the room, Reno giving a casual two fingered salute, signifying he’d watch over her before following the rest of Avalanche out the door.

~*Author’s Notes*~ I had a perfectly good romance chapter going and I have to ruin it with kidnapping and Barret getting hurt again. Sorry Barret fans! I don’t bash him on purpose, I just don’t like writing him. *sighs* Well, till next time peeps. Maybe by then I’ll get this romance thingy right.

Chapter 7: Moniva and Jenova!

“A Saquri?” Edmund asked, and eyebrow raised as he looked at the struggling Christina with renewed interest. He had always heard tales of the Cetra as far back as he could remember, and sometimes they had mentioned a perhaps secret race which had fascinated Edmund as much as the thought of the Promised Land. Now that race had a name. Saquri. Had a nice ring to it, like Cetra did.

“Yes, a Saquri. Surely you know a little about the secret race.” Jenova said, a small smirk on her pink lips, Edmund still not being over the fact that she looked human now. Edmund nodded nonchalantly, eyeing his ex-employee with a calculating eye. To think that such an ancient race was working right under his nose!

“You should take her to Koji. He’ll inject her.” Edmund stated, and Christina straightened in fear at the mention of the evil scientist. Jenova nodded, snapping her fingers again as she disappeared with the Saquri.

“I’m so bored!” Blade complained to Lucy, who rolled her eyes and stared at Chris with a semi worried expression. Chris hadn’t spoken much since Natalia’s death, and when he did, all he could talk about was Natalia and how sweet it would be to get his revenge. In other words, it meant they had a second James on their hands. Don’t get her wrong, she held nothing against their leader, but now that he revealed he thought his ‘mother’ was that evil alien Jenova, she wasn’t sure. Especially after he had ordered them all to be injected with her cells, a very painful process mind you, as if swearing them loyal to his ‘mother’. Lucy looked at Malanda, who seemed to have nerves of steel. Nothing seemed to faze the quiet, brown-eyed girl in the least, and Lucy wished more than ever she could be a little like Malanda. It would certainly help with her to ignore Blade’s complaining.

“Would you be quiet!” Brad’s angry hiss snapped Lucy out of her musings as she noticed Brad looking irritated at Blade over his half shining sword, which he had been in the middle of polishing. Blade stood up, ready for a good fistfight. That’s Blade, Lucy thought to herself, fight first, think later.

“You wanna make me?” Blade snapped, and Brad also stood, brandishing Tenku, the weird name for his short sword.

“Gentlemen, no need to fight over silly matters.” The familiar haunting voice of Jenova called, and the very air around her shimmered with something Lucy couldn’t quite place, but the closet word she had for it was ‘pure evil’.

“Listen to her, children.” A second voice called, just as coldly and sweetly as Jenova had, and they looked up surprised to see a Jenova look alike, except her hair had a yellow tinge to it and black eyes with no pupils. At least Jenova had the decency not to look so freaky.

“Children, this is my eldest sister, Moniva.” Jenova said, an identical evil smirk on both of their lovely faces, now twisted with malevolence.

“Stop pacing! It won’t help anything!” Cloud snapped, him and Sephiroth both on the edge since Christy had been kidnapped. Reno just hoped they wouldn’t try to kill each other again this time. Even he had learned not to settle arguments. It was a waste of time and often he was sore for a week.

“It isn’t good to argue together just because more Jenova has arrived.” Yuffie said, and every looked at her, more than a little surprised. Yuffie had made it a great show to let everyone know how smart she was now just because the Saquri had lent her their knowledge.

“More…Jenova? What do you mean?” Elena asked, curiosity getting the best of her. Reno smirked knowingly. Elena had always been big on gossip, and as a result, was an excellent spy and information gathering.

“Her family is beginning to arrive.” Tifa said softly, startling everyone for a moment. She hadn’t spoken in quiet some time, and would get silent whenever somebody said ‘Saquri’.  Reno sensed some kind of story behind it, but wasn’t sure when to ask her. After all, he didn’t want to disturb her private thoughts.

“So I take it its up to us to be the good guys again and defeat Jenova.” Reno said, leaning against a wall, a thoughtful expression on his face.

“Yes.” Sephiroth said simply, but so much urgency was hidden behind those words.

“Then let’s go now! What are we waiting for?” Yuffie asked, jumping up, always ready for action.

“For the last sister to arrive.” Cloud explained calmly, his arms folded across his chest as his eyes flashed with mako and fire. Seems he was just as impatient about this as Yuffie.

“Alright… I guess.” Yuffie said, and after that, the room was silent, then sudden explosion threw everyone off their comfortable seating arrangements and onto the floor.

“Jenova!” Sephiroth hissed angrily. No love for the evil alien in that guy. Another presence tugged at the back of Yuffie’s mind, one that gave her an immense headache and made her feel sick.

“Moniva…” Tifa stated softly, her now golden eyes narrowed in hostility and anger. Oh goody, a battle with your typical evil aliens, how fun. Yuffie thought sarcastically, rolling her eyes.

“Jenova!” Cloud and Sephiroth hissed angrily, and Tifa sighed. It didn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out what was going to happen next. With battle cries, they were rushing forward, already slashing at the two ‘women’, who didn’t seem affected at all.

“Obviously that’s not the way.” Reno said dryly, looking at the two aliens who were still cackling.

“We’re not here for you, children, we’re here for her!” the Jenova look alike cackled, waving a hand at Tifa. The wind began to color, the materia on Tifa’s necklace making its presence known by glowing with a blinding light, obviously on the verge of the Cetra limit break. Instead, the two forms grinned, and then clasped each other’s hands, staring straight at each other.

“Ready, Moniva, sister dear?” Jenova asked, and Moniva nodded, cackling. Together, energy formed, a darker one, making the air sizzle and crackle, turning the deepest black that Yuffie had ever seen, and she felt something gnaw at the pit of her stomach. Something horrible was going to happen, she could taste it in the air.

“Evil be gone!” Tifa cried, the colored wind swooping around the two women, seeming to form a serpent like dragon in its multicolor. Instead of going straight through them like last time, the wind stopped, and died suddenly. Everyone was silent for a moment in shock. What had just happened here?

“Foolish Cetra! The same trick shan’t best us twice!” Moniva and Jenova shrieked in high-pitched voices, making everyone flinch in pain, especially Cloud and Sephiroth, though they tried not to show it.

“What do we do? It worked last time…” Elena said, for once allowing some emotion in her voice, and Yuffie looked at her silently. Maybe Elena wasn’t so cold after all, and besides, now that she thought of it, she had been harsh on Elena.

“Don’t worry; I’m sure the Saquri can tell me something.” Yuffie said cheerfully, and the two aliens turned their attention from Tifa to Yuffie, amusement on their faces.

“Saquri huh? Well little girl, you have a lot to learn. Your heritage won’t help you now!” Jenova snapped, her fingers curling wickedly as she grinned evilly, and Yuffie gasped in pain, falling to her knees. Sephiroth and Cloud assumed similar stances, gritting their teeth in pain. A gunshot rang clear in the air, and Moniva’s scream in pain brought the ones on their knees back to their feet shakily.

“T-T-Thanks.” Yuffie whispered softly to Elena, whose gun barrel was smoking as she smirked confidently at the two, giving Yuffie a quick wink.

“Obviously we’re not wanted. Let’s go, sister. Koshinee will be waiting for us.” Jenova said snottily, disappearing in a thick cloud of mist along with a wailing Moniva.

“That was one of the weirdest encounters I’ve ever had.” Reno stated calmly, eyeing the spot where Jenova and Moniva had just been. He had a bad feeling about this, and his bad feelings were instinct, and you best follow your instincts, or you could wind up dead.

~*Author’s Notes*~ *gasp shock* Tifa’s Limit Break not work? Is it broken? *takes up plushie with ‘Evil Be Gone’ written on it and shakes it furiously* No, guess not. *shrugs* Well, I don’t know if Jenova is a race, or if she’s a fallen Cetra like everyone likes to believe, so why not give her family? Makes good story, and you gotta be unique somehow, ne? Well, till next time.

Chapter 8: Injecting

A shrill scream pierced the air, and Moniva flinched, her eye twitching in annoyance. The Saquri they had captured, Christy was her name, she wasn’t sure and neither did she care. Koji was standing over the shackled Saquri and injecting her with her cells instead of her weak sister Jenova’s. Her delicate hands clenched into fists at the thought of how that mere mortal had shot her. Jenova had cautioned about these mortal weapons, but she didn’t say how much they stung. Stupid mortal. Another scream signified that the fusion was almost complete, making an evil smirk appear on her pale lips. Tossing back her green yellow tinted hair, Moniva walked casually over to evil scientist, question in her beady black eyes.

“Well?” She snapped, and Koji grinned at her happily, putting away the syringe hastily.

“It’s done! She’s under your control, madam.” Koji said, giving a curt bow, and then scurried off to report to his employer. Moniva looked after him in disgust, and then turned to look at her new ‘child’. Oh yes, revenge would be so fun.

Brad groaned, rubbing the kinks from his neck. And this was only practice! James was on some rampage or something, pushing them to their limits and far past. All the while, Moniva, Jenova, and a warped blonde girl called Christy were watching from the sidelines, critically observing their weakness and strength. To top it all off, his sword arm ached from having that stupid injection Koji had insisted they have to make them ‘stronger’.

“This is a lot harder than my sparring I had back home.” He said to Malanda, and she nodded in agreement. It seemed that James wanted them to be at their best, and better. Was Avalanche that dangerous to be such a threat to Shinra, or to Jenova’s family for that matter. They were ‘all powerful beings’, weren’t they?

“Blade and Lucy are lucky the missed out,” Malanda commented, and then saw James yelling at Chris because he refused to spar with someone, preferring to do everything alone. Seemed he preferred solitude a lot these days, and he had everyone worried. “I wonder if we’re still enough to defeat Avalanche.” Malanda pondered quietly, and Brad also wondered. He had seen their power, as well as James had, and he had to admit that he was scared s*** less over the thought. They weren’t any pushovers like he had fought in the past that was for sure.

“Enough chit chat! Get back to sparring!” James hollered, while Evety groaned and resumed battle stances wearily. This was going to be a long day…

“We need to find Christy, more than ever now!” Sephiroth said, urgency apparent in his voice. Yuffie couldn’t place it, but she felt something wrong about Christy’s ‘aura’ or whatever. It was… cloudy. That was the only word she could think of that described it.

“I agree! We can’t just leave her there!” Tifa seconded, jumping up enthusiastically, a gleam in her eyes. The room was uncharacteristically silent when Tifa spoke up. She had been rather silent for the past couple of days, and hearing her voice again was kind of shocking. Oh well, Reno would pry the story out of her sooner or later about the Saquri.

“Well, any ideas where she could be?” Cloud asked, Sephiroth furrowing his brow in concentration. It was hard to find her, but after ten minutes, he looked relaxed.

“Midgar… in the sewer system.” Sephiroth said finally, and Yuffie jumped up, dancing around excitedly, even if they had to go through that smelling sewer system, she’d gladly rescue her friend.

“What are we waiting for? Let’s go!” Yuffie exclaimed happily, bouncing out the door while the rest followed her, shaking their heads.

“Um…you think that Christy is okay?” Tifa asked, trying to get conversation started. Ever since they had entered Midgar a couple of minutes ago, everyone had gone deathly silent, and so had the planet. It was as if it held its breath, and Tifa knew it wasn’t a good thing. Usually, the planet would be noisy along with the Cetra, but it all seemed so… quiet.

“If they’ve laid a finger on her, I will personally kill them.” Sephiroth growled, and with that tone of voice, Tifa was sure he would. The others looked at him worriedly, while Cloud just had the same worried expression on his face, so much so it seemed it was as green as Yuffie’s was now.

“The sewer again! I wish that Shinra would find somewhere that smells better!” Yuffie complained, and Elena wrinkled her nose too. It seemed as though the two were good friends now, and the girls had done some ‘bonding’ as the guys called it. Well, you would become friends with the person who saved your life, wouldn’t you?

“Don’t complain kid, we’ve been through worse.” Reno said, trying to be the cheerful one, since everyone else seemed earthly quiet, but found it hard to do in the horrible conditions, not to mention the sewage that would send him in the shower for a week before smelling remotely good again. Reno wrinkled his nose at the mere thought.

Reno’s right, we’ve been through worse.” Tifa echoed weakly, giving Reno a small smile that he returned. Cloud just scowled, but quickly went back to worrying about Christy, hoping his little sister was okay. If anything happened to her… he wouldn’t know what to do. Soon, a dull scream echoed in the dreary corridor, and everyone paled, recognizing it at once.

“Christy!” Sephiroth and Cloud exclaimed, quickly running through the tunnel wall, without any thought. The wall still rippled after the two men had disappeared, and Elena and Yuffie looked at each other in shock, and then grinned.

“Cool!” Yuffie exclaimed, and ran through it too, dragging a confused Elena along, the wall rippling like clear water.

“Any particular reason you waited with me babe?” Reno asked, giving Tifa rolled her eyes, a little red.

“Yeah, I just wanted to say that I’m madly in love with you.” Tifa said sarcastically, and Reno pouted, pretending to look disappointed and regretful.

“Sorry babe, only interested in getting into your-“ Tifa didn’t need to hear the rest, she just dragged him through the wall like Yuffie had done Elena, shaking her head but smiling.

Sephiroth had only one thought that was fueling him, and that was to save Christy. Puppet must be having similar thoughts. Maybe we do have something in common. Christy, I hope you’re safe! Sephiroth thought, a hand hovering over the Masamune. Bursting through the door that was emitting the screams, Sephiroth was filled with anger and horror. Christy was strapped to the table, a vacant look had settled in her sparkling, pretty eyes, and what was worse was that Koji was standing over her and injected things that brought back horrible memories into her. And her screams were the ones filling the air. With a snarl, both him and Cloud charged forward, impaling the mad scientist simultaneously. He lurched forward, blood dripping from his mouth, but, and to their amazement, he just turned around and smiled at them.

“I must say, that is a low trick to get a guy with his back turned. No matter, I am stronger than I look.” With an evil laugh, he began to mutate into a big purple blob.

Chapter 9: Puff returns! No wait, isn’t his name Chibi?

Growling, a newly mutated Koji charged at Sephiroth, who managed to dodge the attack and attempted to impale him but was only met by purple goo. D***! I can’t hurt him like this! Sephiroth thought angrily. He turned to see Christy staring at him her eyes blank, but some how she managed to form a smile on her lips. God she’s beautiful. I’ll kill Rufus and Jenova for this! He thought angrily slightly smiling back he turned to see Tifa, her eyes squeezed shut as the energy was being pulled toward her. He felt the ground rumbling fiercely, Koji’s vials and papers falling to the floor. The wind began to color the colors of the rainbow, and a bright light burned from her center, blinding everyone in the room, as a sharp cry came form the Cetra, a shock wave knocking down and wounding Koji severely, but the rest of the party felt peace and relaxation throughout the whole process, the soothing voice of the planet, Cetra, and an unnamed voice singing. Then the bright light began to take shape, and Chibi appeared, eyes a fiery gold he turned to Koji, growling and flexing his golden claws. Chibi roared, flames sprouting from his nostrils. With a beastly roar, he attacked Koji, slashing him numerous of times, burning the globby mess too, though it seemed to do very little damage. After Chibi had slashed him and impaled him with his claws numerous of times, Koji laid on the floor gasping for breath as he felt his blood ooze out of him.

With a dying voice, Koji whispered, “I’ll be seeing you Hojo.” and like magic his body disappeared as he died. Everyone looked at each other, clearly confused, but their attention was drawn back to Christy, who hadn’t even twitched since Chibi was summoned.

Still not losing the vacant look in her eyes, Christy said softly, “You killed my big brother.”

Cloud walked up to her and started shaking her saying “Koji’s not your brother! I am! Remember me? Cloud! Cloudy, Blonde, big brother? You remember me?” He looked like he was in tears. Yuffie walked up to him and put a comforting hand on his shoulder. Tifa scooped up the now portable sized Chibi, who looked rather smug in her arms, and walked over to Christy and held the silver materia over her, chanting in her native tongue. Silver light hung in the air and seeped into Christy and the light returned in her eyes.

“Sephiroth.” Christy said, before passing out in his arms.

“I can’t believe that fool Koji was defeated!” Jenova steamed, while Moniva had this ‘I told you so’ look on her face.

“He was weak sister, no use fretting. We always have backups.” Moniva said, smiling sweetly, evil brewing behind her black eyes.

“Like who? They took my pet Christy too!” Jenova snapped angrily, and Moniva looked at her little sister, annoyance clearly written on her face.

“This time I’ll handle things. You just rest a while sister, being trapped in a Cetra ring tends to have that effect on you.” Moniva said, turning and laughing cruelly, Jenova glaring after her older sister as she sauntered away.

Christy’s eyes fluttered open, and instantly she regretted it. The light made her eyes water and she had one b**** of a headache. After a session of rapid blinking, the blurry figures cleared into the worried faces Avalanche and others hovering over her.

“She’s awake!” Elena said, pointing out the obvious, and if it wouldn’t have hurt, Christy would have rolled her eyes. Her gaze immediately went to Sephiroth, who was looking at her with concern and affection in his gaze. Seeing his look, Tifa grinned.

“C’mon, Sephiroth needs some time alone with her.” Tifa said, ushering everyone out the door, and giving Christy a wink. Cloud, being stubborn, didn’t budge, so Tifa came over to him and dragged him by his ear out of the door, while Cloud yelped in pain. Christy blushed and turned to Sephiroth who smiled softly at her.

“I’m glad you’re back.” Sephiroth said awkwardly, and Christy gave him a heart-warming smile. He was so cute, looking so awkward and concerned.

“You kept your promise Sephiroth, and I’m glad you did.” Christy said, sitting up and wrapping her arms around his neck, snuggling against him with a content sigh. It felt so safe to be in his strong arms, and Christy was glad to be back. He bent his head down and started kissing her neck softly and she shivered, blushing deeply. She knew he wouldn’t do this to just anybody, and that made her feel special, and very much loved.  She lifted her head up to see his heated gaze and she smiled, touching their lips together gently.

“Time’s up!” They heard Cloud yell, and embarrassed, they instantly parted, blushing a little when Cloud and company burst through the door, looking like two school children caught in the make out room. Tifa, Yuffie, and Elena giggled knowing exactly what had been going on, and Reno just gave Sephiroth a slap on the back, grinning. Cloud scowled, and then added, “Christy, I need to see you for a minute.”

Christy snorted, but followed her brother out the door, giving Sephiroth a wink and a blown kiss, making him blush.

“Get a room!” Reno snorted to himself and Tifa slapped him upside the head, glaring at him in annoyance. He just grinned at her, nudging her in the stomach. Her eyes followed Cloud out the door, and she whispered something in Reno’s ear, making his grin larger. Elena looked at Yuffie, and gave a did-we-miss-anything? look. Sephiroth just stared at them, and Chibi nodded his little dragonhead, obviously had heard the two.

“What was going on in there? You do remember he almost destroyed the world! What the f*** is going through your head?” Cloud snapped, and Christy glared at him. How dare he? Was he that dense that he couldn’t see how she felt for him?

“That’s in the past Cloud! And Jenova was controlling him back then, and when she almost got you to kill Tifa and Aeris, nobody blamed you, so why blame him?” Christy exclaimed, and Cloud looked shocked. He never expected his little sister to argue with him.

“Another bites the dust!” Reno exclaimed, and Cloud whirled on him angrily, his eyes flashing of mako and fire.

“Shut up Reno! It’s not your sister who was making out with a maniac!” Cloud had finally crossed the line. Christy looked at him, her eyes flashing just as angrily as his, and with all the force she could muster, slapped him as hard as she could, sending him reeling. Cloud stared at her in shock, his hand flying to the check she had struck.

“He’s not a maniac! And if you say something bad about him again, I swear to God Cloud James Strife I will personally kick you’re a**!” Christy shrieked, rage shaking her petite form. Reno just stared at her wide-eyed, and Tifa cocked her head to one side, cradling Chibi in her arms. She had never, in all her years knowing Christy, seen her so enraged about something. Yuffie and Elena had their mouths wide open, and Sephiroth had just walked in the room was also stunned. Christy had stood up to her own brother, for… him? Cloud turned and stormed out the room, hurt and rage flying across his usual features. Christy looked apologetic, and Tifa turned and followed Cloud, obviously in the hopes of getting him with speaking terms back with Christy. Christy also turned and fled the room, ashamed and disappointed with herself, not noticing Sephiroth trailing after her. Yuffie looked at Elena, who shrugged slightly. Reno just looked longingly where Tifa had left, and after battling with himself for a couple of minutes, he also ran out of the room.

“Gawd! This is starting to look like your regular soap opera.” Yuffie said, and Elena nodded, a thoughtful smile on her face.

“I think now would be a reasonable time to strike.” Moniva stated, stroking her chin thoughtfully, eyeing the scene in front of her. Jenova glanced at her sister with a raised eyebrow.

“Reasonable time? Is that your excuse for taking this long to strike?” Jenova retorted, glaring at her sister angrily. Moniva simply smiled, a mysterious, superior smile that sent Jenova’s teeth on edge.

“Ah, that’s the problem with you, Jenova. You never developed any patience.” Moniva laughed, shaking her head as her greenish yellow curls bouncing.

“Cloud! Wait up! I’m sure that Christy didn’t mean that!” Tifa shouted, while chasing Cloud who seemed to be heading to a park they had passed by earlier. When she finally caught up with him, he was sitting on a rusty swing that creaked under his weight. “Cloud,” she said softly, sitting next to him, and he looked up at her, a broken expression was on his face.

“I just didn’t want her to get hurt. She is my only family y’know.” He said softly, and even his voice was broken.

“I understand Cloud, but don’t you think you were a little…harsh?” Tifa said quietly, and Cloud nodded miserably. “I…just don’t want to lose her to Sephiroth…I’ve lost so much to him…” Cloud whispered, and Tifa’s heart went out to him. Even though she didn’t love him as much as she did, she still held some affection for him. She felt she should take him into her arms and hold him. So that’s what she did, and she sung him the lullaby Christy sang to him when he died. “Tifa…” Tifa looked down at him, and was surprised to see love shinning in his eyes. Before Tifa could react, Cloud pressed his lips hungrily against her own, and latched on to her like she was a lifesaver. And to him, she probably was.

Reno rounded the corner, panting and a little out of breath. What he saw, nothing could have prepared him for. Tifa and Cloud were kissing, and Reno didn’t need to see the rest to know whom she had chosen. He felt a little moisture on his face, and he turned and walked off, not even bothering to stick around. He had felt all kinds of pain, but none compared to this one. Reno had never fallen in love before, so this was a new experience for him, and the pain shearing through his heart was so intense, he wished he could die. I should’ve known she would have picked Strife! Reno, you are so f****ing stupid! God… Tifa… he thought, as another tear slipped down his cheek, and he felt horrible.

“I should have never fallen in love with her.” Reno grumbled, feeling another fiery pain slice through him, making him cry out softly. The wind blew, like it was trying to comfort him, and suddenly, he remembered a song that described his situation perfectly. Soon, the tune began playing in his head, and each word sheared at his heart that was once made of ice, but now was melting at the intense heat of the pain and his feelings.

Oh no, no, no, no, no….

When you feel it in your body

You found somebody who makes you changes your ways

Like hanging with your crew

Said you act like you’re ready

But you don’t really know

And everything in your past-you wanna let it go

Been there, done it, f***ed around,

After all that-this is what I found

Nobody wants to be alone

If you’re touched by the words of this song,

Then baby…

You got, you got it bad

When you’re on the phone

Hang up and you call right back

You got, you got it bad

When you miss a day without your friend

Your whole life’s off track

You know you got it bad when you’re stuck in the house

You don’t wanna have fun

It’s all you think about

You’ve got it bad when you’re out with someone

But you keep on thinkin’ bout somebody else

You got it bad

Sephiroth took a deep breath, preparing himself for the encounter that had to undoubtedly come. He loved Christy, truly he did, but when it came to comforting, well, he had never truly mastered that art. But for her, he would try. She looked absolutely stunning, her shoulder length blonde hair billowing in the wind, her shapely legs drawn to her slim, well formed body. The moonlight flickered across her pale skin, making her seem to…glow.

“I didn’t mean to hurt him. I just…couldn’t stand what he said about you Sephiroth. He just doesn’t understand how I…feel. It’s just I love you so much, it hurts, you know.” Christy whispered softly, looking at Sephiroth, silently begging him to understand. He nodded slowly, taking his place beside her. Personally, he was angry that Cloud, a mere puppet, he said he was the maniac, but in a way, he could…understand. As long as he didn’t say anything to drive Christy over the edge again, he would continue to understand the blonde’s way of thinking. Christy sighed again, tucking a stray stand of hair behind her ear, conscious of Sephiroth’s gaze. Even if he had almost destroyed the world, it wasn’t him really doing it. It was that evil alien Jenova, and just for that reason, she’d destroy the source of Sephiroth’s pain. With that thought, she turned to smile at Sephiroth, who gave an awkward smile back.

Reno kept his gaze down, doing his best to not think of Cloud and Tifa, but it didn’t seem to work. He could already see the huge house they’d live in, straight out of a movie, down to the little dog and the white picket fence. He even saw the miniature Cloud and Tifa running around the place, and the smiling parents. With an angry kick, he sent a pop can flying, ignoring the couples who seemed so in love as he passed. He didn’t need that, he didn’t need love. It just hurt. With a twist of his lips, he frowned, his blank Turk mask falling once again into place. But, to his irritation and frustration, the song kept playing over in his mind, seeming to taunt him of things never to be.

You got, you got it bad

When you’re on the phone

Hang up and you call right back

You got, you got it bad

When you miss a day without your friend

Your whole life’s off track

You know you got it bad when you’re stuck in the house

You don’t wanna have fun

It’s all you think about

You’ve got it bad when you’re out with someone

But you keep on thinkin’ bout somebody else

You got it bad

~*Author’s Notes*~ I just had to get Chibi back in here! I just love that little blue dragon who can become portable sized! *hugs Chibi, who sighs, like this happens everyday, and it does! So cute! J* Well, don’t you just feel so bad for Reno? Well, never fear Reno fans, for I am one too. Not many people I don’t like…um, anyway, don’t worry. Next chappie will be out soon, promise!

Chapter 10: Shadows Intentions

“Yuck. This is like your regular soap opera.” Yuffie commented, laying down a card.

“You do have a point. And I don’t know about you, but Shadow has been deathly quite, so have our resident aliens.” Elena stated, making a face at her hand. “Oh yuck.”

“I mean, look. Its like we’re running a zoo here.” Yuffie stated, grinning as she laid down another card.

“A zoo is too good for this.” Elena stated, smiling as she and Yuffie giggled. “Oh! I give up! Show some mercy next time!” Elena stated, shoving her cards in Yuffie’s direction as she continued to shuffle.

“Turks don’t ask for mercy, or have you gone soft, Elena?” the room seemed to promptly drop fifty degrees in temperature as a clearly ticked Reno strolled through the door, his eyes cold and merciless. What exactly happened? Yuffie sent Elena a look, who was glancing at Reno, letting the comment slide. Reno seemed thoroughly upset, and it wouldn’t do to give a smart retort to him unless she wanted a fight. Without a glance to both, Reno turned and walked to his room, no doubt to drown his troubles in liquor.

“What’s with him?” Yuffie asked, making a face at Reno’s door, shaking her head.

“I’m sure its nothing. Rematch time!” Elena said half heartedly, looking at Reno’s door before turning back to the card game.

Edmund turned back to his finest, Lucy, Blade, and Chris had all been trained under him, and they were his best. They’d do for this mission, even if they were destroyed, Moniva’s sister was coming, the third and final. Kinda a fitting actually, three lives for three lives.

“You know what you must do. Retrieve the Cetra at all costs.” Edmund demanded, and all three nodded, bowing their heads. “Kill some of Avalanche if you feel so inclined,” Edmund stated, noticing the corner’s of Chris’s lips tug upward. It was no secret he had feelings for the late Natalia, and would do anything for revenge. Just like that easily manipulated fool, James. All for women, what a waste. Edmund shook his head briefly, before turning back to the three, a smirk on his face. “Go.” He stated, and as that word left his lips, the three vanished.

Tifa sighed, unwinding herself from Cloud’s grip. If only he had done this sooner! Tifa looked away, not wanting to hurt him. Even if she didn’t love him the way she used to, she still had a big part of her heart preserved for Cloud Strife only, even if the other half had begun to shift toward a certain red headed Turk…

“I’m sorry Cloud.” Tifa whispered, turning and bolting off, not wanting to see Cloud’s now broken heart to go with the rest of his broken collection. Cloud hung his head, feeling all emotions run through his being, hurt, lose, sorrow, pain, and most of all, rising above all the others in an alarming rate, hate. How could he hate Tifa, when he knew she had loved him at the beginning, but was beginning to fall for a fiery Turk.

Oh child, you don’t need her. I’m always here, for you child, you know that… Cloud instantly stiffened, squeezing his eyes shut as he raked his hands through his hair.

No Jenova! You’re wrong! I can go on; Tifa’s a friend, my best friend! But of course you don’t know friendship, do you, you b****? Cloud bit mentally, and Jenova’s tsking was heard, not that Cloud cared right now. All he wanted was peace and quiet so he could sort his thoughts. He felt Jenova leave the clutches of his brain, and he sighed in relief, but yet it made him suspicious. Why would she leave without a fight? Cloud shrugged, deciding not to push his luck. With a sigh, he leaned his head back, closing his eyes as he began to sort through his jumbled thoughts and emotions.

Reno heard the door open below, and Yuffie and Elena shouted, and Tifa’s soft voice pierced through the door, like she was right next to him. He’d be able to distinguish any of her features in any circumstances. He sighed, closing his eyes, feeling trapped all of a sudden. He knew Tifa would come up here sooner or later, to state her and Strife were goin to get married. He sighed, getting up, trotting down the stairs, feeling the room’s occupant’s eyes on him, and Tifa opened her mouth to say something, but he was already out the door, door banging shut. The town they were staying in was small, one of those towns that sprung up after Meteor, but like every other city, a bar was close to the inn. With a small smile, he opened the bar, greeted by the familiar aroma of liquor, and the roaring sounds of drunks, smoke curled thickly over the room. His type of bar. With his grin still in place, he sat on a wooden stool, his goal to get unbelievable drunk by the end of the night.

“There! Haha! Give it up ladies, give it up!” Yuffie crowed, laughing as she dove into her winnings, mostly materia that was useless to the two other women. Elena made a disgusted face, shoving her pile toward Yuffie, who was looking at Tifa worriedly. She had been silent ever since Reno had left, not that she hadn’t been silent during their journey, but still… “Tifa? Yuffie asked in concern, and the martial artist jumped, and forced a shaky smile at the ninja.

“Oh uh, I don’t feel like playing anymore.” Tifa stated softly, getting up quickly and heading to her, room, where the door slammed. Then a sudden cry of surprise and a thump brought the two girls to their companion’s bedroom, and Yuffie looked at Elena, chewing her lip. With a nod, they both burst into the room, just in time to see Tifa roundhouse kick that dark haired girl Lucy in the temple, sending her sprawling while two shadows moved in the corner of her room. Distracted, Tifa whirled around, only seeing Yuffie and Elena, breathed a sigh of relief, just as Blade and Chris rushed forward, weapons drawn. Yuffie shrieked, not expecting the attack, while Elena whipped her gun, shooting Chris right between the eyes, making his corpse fall back. Lucy, now conscious, screamed, rushing to his side, then looked at Elena, cold hard fury in her eyes. With a cry, her whip shout out, aimed for the blonde, but Tifa’s sword came crashing down, slicing the whip, sending a bolt of electricity through her, making her grit her teeth. Yuffie, getting her bearings, threw her shuriken, embedding it in Lucy’s stomach, and a quick energy ball promised the girl a ride straight to Kingdom Come. Blade’s eyes blazed with furry as he whipped a fist to Tifa’s face, sending her sprawling, clutching her cheek in pain. On a rampage, he dodged the bullets Elena was shooting, capturing Yuffie before she could reach her shuriken, holding her by the throat.

“Don’t move.” He hissed, clutching Yuffie’s neck tighter, making her gag and try to struggle. Both girls stayed motionless, watching horrified as Yuffie was slowly being strangled to death. Suddenly a thunk made everyone glance behind them, surprised to see Sephiroth, and Christy, with identical evil smirks on their faces.

“Burn.” Christy hissed, lifting her gun and shooting, just as Sephiroth thrust his sword forward. Both reached the stunned shadow at the exact same moment, slaying him in perfect union. He sprawled to the ground with a horrible thud, his mouth wide open in terror.

~*Author’s Notes*~ Oh, that was horribly gruesome. Sorry for those of you who are queasy by that stuff, but it must be done. Well, pretty short, sorry. Kinda rushed this chapter. Oh well, tell me what ya thinkie please!

Chapter 11: A Long Night

Edmund sighed, running a hand through his hair, thoroughly frustrated. Avalanche had defeated his three finest, and from what Jenova had reported, they had not caused any dire injury, or any injury at all! Edmund pounded his desk, gritting his teeth, then straightening himself. It would not do to get all worked up over this. He knew from the beginning this would happen. Why get all worked up over it? Will a careless shrug, he went out to find James. Might as well get rid of those other useless bodies that were eating up his resources and his patience. But this Jenova line, that, that alone was something he’d keep around for a while.

“They… died?” Brad asked in shock, not sure why. He hadn’t been close to either of them, but Lucy had been nice to him, and he had to avenge her death.

“Who…?” Malanda asked, her eyes narrow, seeming to expand with her anger. That alone was intimidating.

“Yuffie killed Lucy, Elena Chris, and Sephiroth and Christy murdered Blade.” James said in a deadly monotone, like he couldn’t care less, and Malanda’s glaring eyes pierced into him. How could he not care? They were his teammates, yet he dismisses their death like it was nothing? Malanda glared longer still, ignoring Jenova, Moniva, and their newest sister to arrive.

“I will settle this. Death on our side is nothing to laugh at.” The woman stated, and with a flick of her cloak, she was out the door, an evil cackle lingering in the air.

Reno was drunk off his a**, swaying unsteadily in the chair.

“’Nother.” Reno stated drunkenly to the bartender, who shook his head.

“That’s enough for one night.” The bartender stated, turning back to cleaning his glass. Reno sighed, truly beaten. With a drunken swagger, he toppled out of his stool, giving a drunken roar of laughter. Nobody noticed though, too caught up in their own festivities to notice even a drunken ex-Turk.

“Sir, are you all right?” Reno looked up to see a blonde woman, her black eyes shining, or maybe that was the light, he wasn’t sure. With a groan, he nodded, trying to hoist himself up. D***, even liquor didn’t take his mind off of her.

“Fine.” He slurred, and the woman gave a short laugh, helping him to his feet. She draped his arm over her slim shoulders and helped him take a few staggering steps.

“I’m sure you are. C’mon, let’s take you home. You do remember where home is, right?” The woman asked, looking at him questionably, and he nodded his head vigorously, not a good idea after all the alcohol he had consumed. She gave another soft laugh, and helped him out, blushing and giggling at Reno’s drunken attempts to flirt.

“Thank the planet you two got here! I swear!” Elena stated, wiping her brow, sneering at the dead bodies of the fallen. Oh yuck.

“I’m not cleaning up this mess!” Yuffie chirped, skipping off no doubt to cram some studying in for a while. She had a big test she needed to do if she wanted to learn more about the Saquri like Red had said. Tifa was just looking at the bodies in a sort of shock, and out of nowhere, she burst into tears.

“Oh my god!” She whimpered, and Elena and Christy instantly rushed to her, while Sephiroth hung back, not sure what to do.

“Tifa! It’s okay, they were trying to kill you remember!” Christy soothed, and Elena nodded, and Tifa shook her head.

“They were just doing their job! Just like…just like…” Tifa trailed off, looking away from the corpses. All this time, she had been wondering why she had been falling for Reno, and now it was clear.

“I can’t believe I haven’t thought of him!” Tifa stated out of the blue, her tears instantly drying as she shook her head, obviously embarrassed and ashamed.

“Who?” Elena asked, and Tifa looked down, giving a small shrug.

“A…A boy I once knew. He…he died before I got a chance to tell him. He…I…loved him….I lost so much…” Tifa floundered helplessly, but she composed herself, with a sigh. “He was also Saquri…and that look in Blade’s eyes when Lucy died… was the same look in mine when he died.” Tifa stated, shaking her head giving a forced laugh. “I must sound so stupid.” Tifa sighed, but both girls shook their heads vigorously. Tifa sighed again, brushing the remnants of tears from her eyes and stood, shaking her head slowly. “Uh, thanks for listening. I…uh… needed to say that.” Tifa stated, shaking her head again, giving a shaky smile to the girls.

“Hey, anytime. That’s what friends are for, right?” Christy asked, giving Tifa a wink, pulling Sephiroth out the room, Elena giving Tifa a concerned glance before turning and following. After they had gone, Tifa’s smile crumbled, and she sat on the floor, another tear slipping from her eyes.

“Ryan…” She whimpered, cradling her head in her knees, wrapping her arms around herself as she missed him.

“Reno!” Elena scolded, after the red headed Turk had made his way back to the inn, about half an hour later. He had been trying to stall the inevitable by flirting by the girl, Katrina was her name, but in due time he had to get back to the inn. He was drop dead tired, and even Elena’s annoying questions weren’t going to keep him from his bed. With a gentle shove, Reno got Elena out of the way as he made his way to the guy’s room, plopping down on the nearest bed possible. His last conscious thought was how much prettier Tifa was than Katrina, and then the blackness took him.

Elena gave a slight scowl in Reno’s direction, putting her hands on her hips as she turned to Christy.

“Men, I swear.” Elena stated, shaking her head again, but Christy wasn’t listening, instead, she was looking at Sephiroth in concern. Sephiroth was lost in thought, a cold look on his face as he eyed the door Reno had just stumbled through.

“Sephiroth…” Christy whispered softly, and he shook his head.

“She’s trouble. The Turk should stay away from her.” Sephiroth stated with conviction, getting up from his seat and following Reno’s example and heading for the guy’s room. Elena looked at the now troubled Christy and cocked her head to the side.

“She who?” Elena asked, and Christy looked up at the ceiling, blowing her blonde bangs away from her sea green eyes.

“Jenova and her sisters. They’re making their move, the planet is sure.” Christy stated, and Elena sighed, sitting down. This was going to be a long night…

~*Author’s Notes*~ That chapter got us nowhere, except that Tifa has a past love named Ryan. Hang tight peeps that name means something, believe it or not. Hehe. Well, had to fit it in there somewhere. Don’t worry; our little troubled blonde Saquri’s warning will be heeded… a little too late. Hehe. I love being evil! Well, till next time peeps, till next time.

Chapter 12: Karaoke Time!

“Who are you?!” Christy blurted, staring at the blonde haired girl in suspicion. She didn’t like the aura she was giving off, even if she looked innocent enough.

“I’m here for Reno. He said he’d be here.” The woman stated, dodging the question. Christy looked at the woman even more suspiciously. Sure, Tifa’s bar wasn’t exactly a private place, but Reno didn’t know they’d be coming here after last night, did he? Before Christy could interrogate further, Reno came down the steps, grinning merrily for a guy who just had gotten over his hang over.

“Katrina baby! Didn’t think you’d make it!” Reno stated, slinging an arm over her shoulders, giving her a kiss on the lips that left Christy disgusted. Didn’t he know that Tifa was there, or how she felt for him? Christy’s eyes narrowed as she glared at the red head, who looked like he couldn’t care less what she thought, or Tifa for that matter. Speaking of Tifa… Tifa was seen, paler than usual, serving drinks to local patrons, who were already roaring drunk, considering the bar had only opened a couple hours earlier. Christy sighed, walking over to Sephiroth, who was eyeing the bar with interest. The drunks seemed to welcome him as their own, not caring he had almost destroyed the world, or too drunk to remember.

“He’s a jerk. It’s so obvious they like each other.” Christy stated, plopping down next to Sephiroth. He raised an eyebrow when he looked at her, her face pure concentration as her sea green eyes darted from Reno to Tifa, putting a thoughtful finger to her lips.

“Planning something?” Sephiroth asked, though it wasn’t necessary. An evil grin spread across her features, and she winked at Sephiroth.

“Oh yes, this’ll be so much fun!” Christy squealed, jumping up in search of Elena and Yuffie, dragging poor Tifa away from her patrons. After a bout of chatting, every girl was grinning, except for Tifa who looking embarrassed and was shaking her head vigorously. Cloud plunked down next to Sephiroth, looking amused.

“Any idea?” He asked, a little bit too at ease with his ex-enemy that Sephiroth would have been suspicious, if times had been different. But they weren’t. He shrugged, and Cloud sighed. “Pure evil, I bet.” Cloud stated, leaning back as he eyed Reno with his new girl, eyes narrowed. Didn’t he know how special Tifa was? It didn’t help that the girl seemed to radiate evil all over her, and if he was positive a little Jenova. Was she injected too?

“Hey! All you people! Listen up! This is a special, once in a lifetime event, so feel lucky! Us girls will perform a song for your viewing pleasure! So sit up and look like an audience!” Yuffie snapped into a microphone, Elena and Christy cheering while Tifa blushed, looking down at the ground. The bar was flooded with drunken cheers as the girls got into position, each with a mic in hand.

“Oh Gawd!” Cloud said, true Yuffie style as the music played.

Yuffie, can you handle this?

Christy, can you handle this?

Tifa, can you handle this?

Elena, can you handle this?

I don’t think they can handle this.

Whoooooooooooooooooo

Christy: Barley move,

            We’ve arrived,

            Lookin’ sexy,

            Lookin’ fly,

            Baddest chick,

            Chick inside,

            DJ, jam tonight

            Spotted me a tender thang

            There you are,

            Come on baby

            Don’t you wanna

            Dance with me,

            Can you handle,

            Handle me

The guys looked at the girls in shock, and even Reno stopped flirting with Katrina long enough to gape at Tifa, who was singing with the rest of the girls. Chibi, who had been wandering around the bar in curiosity, had stopped and hopped on the table with Cloud and Sephiroth, watching this human activity in interest.

Yuffie: You gotta do much better

If you’re gonna dance with me tonight

            Gotta work jelly

If you gonna dance with me tonight

            Read my lips carefully

If you like what you see

            Move, grove, prove

            You can hang with me

By the looks I got you shook,

            Up and scared of me

            Hook up your seatbelt,

            It’s time for takeoff

The girls began a dance that Reno would consider ‘dirty dancing’. Each move emphasizing curves or making them look seductive, whichever. Chibi arched a dragon brow, looking at Sephiroth, who was wincing each time a drunken roar of approval came from the audience, keeping his mako eyes trained on Christy.

All: I don’t think you ready for this jelly

I don’t think you ready for this jelly

I don’t think you ready for this

‘Cause my body’s too Bootylicious for ya babe

Baby can you handle this?

Baby can you handle this?

Baby can you handle this?

I don’t think you can handle this!

Elena: I’m gonna break you off

H-Town goin’ hard

Lead my hips,

Slap my thighs,

Swing my hair,

Square my eyes,

Lookin’ hot

Smellin’ good

Grovin’ like

I’m from the hood

Look over my shoulder,

Blow you a kiss

Can you handle,

Handle this?

All: I don’t think you ready for this jelly

I don’t think you ready for this jelly

I don’t think you ready for this

‘Cause my body’s too Bootylicious for ya babe

Baby can you handle this?

Baby can you handle this?

Baby can you handle this?

I don’t think you can handle this!

Tifa: My body ba-doom-ba-da

My body ba-doom-ba-da

Ba-bee-a-doom-ba-bee-a-doom

Pow, Pow, Pow, Pow,

All: I don’t think you’re ready

‘Cause my body’s too Bootylicious for ya babe!

The whole bar erupted in cheers, and drunken calls for more as the girls giggled and blushed, hopping down from the makeshift stage and walking toward where the guys were seated. Before Sephiroth could asked what had gone on up there, Cloud beat him to the chase.

“What in the h*** was that all about?” Cloud snapped to Christy, who was giggling and blushing furiously. Not even waiting for an answer, he launched into another question. “You know how many men were watching you’re a**?” Cloud asked, and Christy turned to the audience, her eyes knitting as she counted silently.

“Um…over a hundred?” She offered sheepishly, and Cloud glared at her protectively.

“Yes, and do you know how perverted they are?” Cloud snapped, still glaring piercingly at her as she grinned sheepishly.

“Uh, like Reno?” She asked, and Cloud sighed, shaking his head, a smile of weary affection on his lips. Without another word, he turned to Yuffie, shooting the same questions at her.

“This karaoke, is it a favorite human activity?” Chibi asked curiously, ‘human activities’ something he felt he needed to learn.

“Only for some.” Reno stated, grinning and winking at the blue dragon, who glared at him. Chibi was no fool; he knew how Reno’s flirting was affecting Tifa.

“Reno! Shame on you! Do you know how deep your flirting has gotten you this time?” Christy scolded, and Reno shrugged, looking indifferent.

“I was just going to say nice performance ladies, but if you want to bite my head off, I think I have a better place to be.” Reno stated, turning and walking back to Katrina, and wrapped his arm around her. Tifa, who seemingly had heard the whole thing, walked out of the bar, to the house portion, slamming the door shut. Sending an evil glare Reno’s way, Christy ushered the patrons out, along with Yuffie and Elena, including Reno’s girl. Katrina and Christy got into a glaring match, but she only slinked out after Sephiroth joined, narrowing his mako enhanced green eyes at her. “Hey! What was that for?” Reno snapped, and Yuffie glared at him.

“Don’t be such a jerk!” Yuffie snapped, still glaring at him. Reno just glared back, but didn’t say anything insulting back.

Katrina walked along the street indignantly, glaring at nothing. Kicking her out of the bar! If only they knew who she worked for! Suddenly, the expression dropped and she gave a smirk. Looking around quickly, assured that no one was following her, she ducked into a nearby alleyway. She giggled shaking her blonde head, taking out an orb. With a small chant, the orb glowed and an icy voice pierced the shadows.

“My child, report.” The voice hissed, and Katrina laughed softly.

“All goes according to plan. The Cetra seems to have feelings for that redheaded mortal, and I think it would be fun to break them apart, agonizingly slow.” Katrina giggled, loving the drama. Pain and suffering, that’s what she loved, especially if she was the one to cause it!

“You know the plan, and that would interfere! Now, go, and good work child. I have a feeling this might be enjoyable.” The voice stated with malice, and Katrina smirked, and walked off into the night.

~*Author’s Notes*~ Okay, I know karaoke has nothing to do with this story, but I love it! I’m thinking about adding this to the series. Always have to fit karaoke in somehow. *giggles* Well, anyway, any guess at who Katrina is? *evil laughter* This’ll be so much fun, I promise. Well, don’t worry, Reno and Tifa fans, I won’t make much more interference between them anymore. For now. *evil laughter*

Chapter 13: Koshinee

“What a jerk!” Tifa sniffled angrily, giving her pillow a brutal punch. She sighed, plopping her face into her pillow, trying hard not to cry. Why waste tears over him! It’s not like he even cares! Tifa thought bitterly to herself, rolling over to look up at the ceiling. A knock on the door startled her out of her thoughts, and she jolted up, hoping to the planet it wasn’t him.

“Tifa? You okay?” Elena’s voice asked through the door, and Tifa sighed, giving a small shrug.

“I’m fine.” Tifa stated, cursing her voice for sounding so shaky. The door opened slowly, Elena peeking her head in cautiously, and stepping into the room, a concerned look on her face.

“Tifa, we all know how Reno’s affecting you. Uh, don’t let it bother you. He’s… always like this.” Elena stuttered, not sure on how to comfort her. She had few female friends, and hadn’t had the time to pick up comforting skills when she was with Shinra. Tifa gave another sniffle, and nodded, straightening.

“Thanks Elena… I need to start acting more mature, ne? I can’t cry my eyes out every time something goes wrong, right?” Tifa asked shakily, and Elena nodded, smiling happily.

“Hey, why not join us back at the karaoke stand? It’ll be good to relieve stress, right?” Elena asked, winkingly, and Tifa grinned, and nodded, following Elena out the room.

“I’ll get it!” Reno called over his shoulder huffily, stalking away from the festivities, glad to have an excuse to get away from the sad stares of Tifa and the accusing ones of everyone else. With a shrug, he yanked the door open, grinning at the site of the beautiful blonde. “Well, well, well, back for more so soon, Katrina?” Reno asked with a wink, and Katrina gave him a malevolent glance, her lips turning up at the corners in an evil fashion. Without a word, she lifted her arm, her hair billowing back, her eyes flashing, as she flicked her wrist, sending Reno painfully back into the bar wall, making the singing stop. With a groan of pain, Reno closed his eyes, slumping over.

“I knew she was no good!” Yuffie snarled, flicking her wrists also, a fireball formed, shooting straight at the woman, who smirked and dodged.

“Give us the Cetra, and I’ll leave you be.” Katrina snickered, hands crackling with energy, charged and ready to go.

“Chibi, now!” Sephiroth hissed, and Chibi sprang forward with a snarl, flames sprouting from his mouth, making Katrina shrink back, howls of agony heard. Her face twisted, as she mutated, showing her true form, a true Jenova look alike.

“Koshinee! Jenova’s youngest sister!” Yuffie hissed, the hatred of a thousand generations worth showing in her voice and her flaming eyes. Christy, Sephiroth, Elena and Cloud took position by her, and simultaneously yelled, charging forward, both men were brandishing their swords, and Christy shooting her gun madly, aiming for Koshinee’s beady eyes. With an ear splitting shriek, Sephiroth and Cloud’s sword tore her soft flesh, and Christy and Elena’s bullets finally hitting their target. With a howl full of revenge and hate, Koshinee disappeared. With a self satisfied smirk, Christy plopped down on the floor with Elena, Sephiroth flicking his sword clean, Cloud wiping sweat from his brow, a little shaken from being so near a Jenova being. Chibi was over by Tifa, who was cradling Reno’s head, Yuffie over there too, chanting the spells of healing from a cure materia, trying to get the redhead’s head injury to stop bleeding.

“We should pay this ‘Shadows’ a visit.” Cloud growled, sighing and looking around the bar in distaste. It had been smashed up real nice when Koshinee had decided to mutate with all those tentacles.

“For once, I agree! Let’s kick some butt!” Yuffie squealed, jumping up and grinning madly.

“But first…” Elena said, frowning for a second, and everyone looked at one another.

“Reeve.” They stated in union, not looking forward to informing the President of the recent going ons. It wasn’t going to be pretty, that was for sure.

“We must move quickly.” Moniva hissed, tending to Koshinee’s wounds as the remaining figures of Jenova’s Children stood obediently, not sure what was going on, but not wanting to upset the alien even further.

“Where must we go, Mother?” James asked in confusion, and Jenova looked at him in pure distaste, like the answer to that question was obvious.

“To the Ancient Temple of course! The Cetra will try to go there to banish us from the place with the most planet energy. We must crush the core before this can happen!” Jenova snarled, and not liking all these orders and being treated like an inferior being, Malanda spoke up, her brown eyes flashing.

“I am sure Edmund would not approve of this! I am not going to stand here and let you order us around like slaves!” Malanda snapped, and three sisters glared at Malanda’s boldness.

“Child, it matters not to me what that fool thinks. He will be dealt with soon. Ahh… Jenova, do you think you can handles this?” Moniva asked, and Jenova grinned, flicking her wrist experimentally.

“Oh yes, I think this assignment I will enjoy.” Jenova laughed, disappearing into thin air.

“I can’t believe it… already Shadow has made its move? I’ll send someone on it right away!” Reeve stated venomously, slamming a fist on his desk, making all the Avalanche members look at him in surprise. Normally reeve never lost his temper, unless it was something he was really passionate about.

“And that’s not all… Jenova has also arrived, with two more.” Tifa stated softly, bracing herself for Reeve’s reaction. Reeve just gave a small sigh, running a hand through his hair.

“I am truly sorry, but I must leave that matter up to you. I will take care of Shadow.” Reeve stated, softly, and Christy and Yuffie jumped up, pumping their fists in the air.

“Yeah, we can take care of this! Leave it to us!” Both girls chirped, and all in the room gave them a weird glance.

“Just be careful. We do not want another death on our hands.” Everyone’s eyes drifted to Cloud, who looked uncomfortable, but said nothing.

“We will.” Chibi stated softly, looking back at the group, his golden eyes serious and piercing.

A sudden rustling alerted Edmund that there was someone in the room, and with a sigh, he looked up to see Jenova’s evil face.

“What is it? I’m very busy.” Edmund snapped, not in the mood for this game. He had no time for the alien’s pointless games.

“Oh no Edmund, you’ll soon be busy pleading for you pitiful life.” Jenova laughed, taking her wrist, and flicking it like she had been practicing earlier, and Edmund was suddenly in a chokehold, gasping for breath. “Say it Edmund, plead for your pitiful life.” Jenova cackled, and Edmund made a few gasping noises and gurgles, but nothing that sounded pleading to Jenova. “Oh, to bad. I guess you don’t want to live.” Jenova stated, mock sadness in her voice, as her black eyes glowed, and her hands began to crush the air, and Edmund’s gasps for air were becoming more desperate, his eyes bugging out. With an amused glance at him, Jenova shrugged, letting his lifeless corpse fall to the floor with a thud. With a satisfied smirk, she disappeared, just as the secretary opened the door.

“Sir, is everything okay? Sir?” She looked behind his desk and let out an ear piercing scream of horror.

~*Author’s Notes*~ Eeks! So sorry! I’m killing off way too many people. At this rate, I won’t be able to finish the fic. *sniffles* Sorry about all the gore in here, but I’m not good at battles as you can tell, and my brother, who is a total death and gore freak, has been, uh, helping me? Hehe. Well, till next time peeps.

Chapter 14: Too Late…

“We don’t have much time to get to the temple, you know.” Yuffie stated, after the Saquri had explained the situation to everyone else. They simply could not let Jenova destroy that temple, it was one of the only things the planet had left to remind the people about the Cetra life.

“Well, we can’t exactly call Cid up, I mean, he is expecting a child you know. I don’t think Shera would let us take him for even a little bit.” Tifa stated, and Christy frowned.

“Teleport.” Chibi stated simply, and everyone looked at the blue dragon in wonder.

“Teleport?” Reno asked, and the blue dragon bobbed his head, looking almost pleased. “Lemme guess, Cetra/Saquri powers, right?” Another nod. “Is it just me, or is this whole thing f***ed up?” Reno snapped, and by everyone’s look, it was just him. With an exasperated sigh, Reno threw his hands up and stalked off, Tifa looking after him with an almost wistful glance.

“So, um, how do we do this?” Yuffie asked, the thought of teleporting thrilling and frightening her at the same time. Hopefully she wouldn’t get motion sickness.

“We start now. We have no time to waste.” Chibi stated, sitting down and starting to instruct the Saquri and Cetra how to teleport, while Reno and Elena stood off to the side, scratching their heads.

“I don’t know about this. I mean, last time…” Christy stated, trailing off as she looked at the house three roofs down. Last time she had tried, well, she had basically hovered them in thin air and dropped them two stories down. It was still painful to think about.

“We do need to teleport. You shouldn’t give up so soon.” Sephiroth stated, grasping her hand, making her blush. She would never be able to get over his warm touches. With a small nod, she closed her eyes, feeling the wind whip around them, and the rush of soaring overtook her senses. It was like how you’d want flying to be like, except if you open your eyes you’d be meet with a flash of sickening colors and shapes. She felt her feet slap on something solid, and still not believing, she opened her eyes a pinch to see she had made it to her destination.

“Whoo hoo! I did it!” Christy exclaimed, hugging Sephiroth in her bout of happiness. Sephiroth looked at her grinning slightly, and Christy giggled. “Uh, uh, Cloud might see.” Christy stated softy and Sephiroth shrugged in a non-caring manner, leaning forward and pressing his lips softly to hers, and she sighed. Ah, heaven again.

“Ohhhh! I told you we’d be interrupting something!” Reno crowed, and instantly the pair broke apart, blushing madly. The girls giggled softly while Cloud glared at the two, still not approving of their relationship. “So, how was ‘practice’?” Reno asked, wiggling his eyebrows suggestively, and Tifa jabbed him in the ribs. Christy just blushed, and Chibi stood on his hind legs, still not taller than a teddy bear, but he still commanded respect.

“We must leave now.” Chibi stated urgently, his golden eyes darting around, feeling something that no one else quite could.

“Gawd, it’s kinda scary in here.” Yuffie stated, looking around the dimly lit corridor, holding her hands to her chest protectively, shivering in the cold. Jenova was definitely here somewhere.

“Awww, scared? Want to hold Spike’s hand again?” Reno teased, and Yuffie glared at him.

“Gawd! Well, why don’t you hold Tifa hand too?” Yuffie snapped back, and before the fight ensued, Chibi looked at a wall piercingly with his golden eyes.

“It is here.” Chibi stated, nodding toward the wall, which looked at crumbly and worn as the next.

“Um, Chi, are you sure you’re okay? I mean… it’s a wall.” Cloud stated, and Chibi gave him a teeth-baring grin.

“Ah, humans, so simple minded. Up, my friends, up.” Chibi stated, and everyone craned their necks, only to see black abyss. Just as they were about to turn to Chibi and point out nothing was there, a bright flash of light appeared, as if beckoning for them.

“Question! How are we going to get all the way up there? It’s not like we can fly or anything!” Elena stated, exasperated. Sephiroth merely shrugged, speaking up.

“The Cetra, if you remember, had wings when we defeated Jenova. We can have them now, if our resident Cetra is strong enough.” Sephiroth stated, looking at Tifa, who gave a wink. Taking her materia tucked in her shirt, Tifa shut her eyes, letting the familiar mist of silver. It soon sparkled, and constructed wings at Tifa’s back, and faded just as the wings became solid, stretching out.

“Wow! Cool!” Yuffie squealed, bouncing up and down with delight. Soon, everyone was up, soaring in the air, enjoying flight for what little time they could, Elena especially. So this must be how Rude feels, up there, if he is there. Elena thought, and suddenly she heard Reno cursing, along with Yuffie.

“Godd***it!” The both hissed, rubbing their heads in pain.

“End of the line. There’s a platform over there that leads into a hallway.” Cloud stated, pointing forward, and sure enough, that’s where the bright light seemed to beckon them in. Each one stepped onto the platform, and as they did, their wings disappeared, making Elena sigh. She’d wait till the others had all gone, then she’d go. She felt like this would be the closet she’d get to Rude until-

“Elena!” Chibi shrieked, and she turned around to see the smirking face of Jenova.

“Say hi to your little love for me!” Jenova cackled, and before anyone could react, Jenova’s hand shot forward, along with a ball of energy, shooting straight trough Elena. With a wink and a cackle, she disappeared, while Elena’s blue eyes widened in shock, and suddenly she was tumbling.

“Elena!” She heard everyone scream in horror. She closed her eyes, silently telling them goodbye, glad to be with Rude again, telling him to wait for her.

~*Author’s Notes*~ Oh poor Elena! *sniffles* and she was one of my favorite characters! *wails* So sorry! *sniffles* Well, I had to stop there, cause I had to do a good cliffhanger at least once! Well, till next time peeps. *sniffles*

Chapter 15: Emotions That Make Us or Break Us

“Can’t we do something? Like reviving her?” Christy said softly, and Sephiroth shook his head sadly. Elena’s death had pierced through everyone’s heart, and mourning hung heavy in the still air in the grim corridor. True, it was better lit, and as wide as a field, heck, it even looked like one. With grass covering the floor, and flowers woven through the vines that hung on the walls that were painted a nice cream color.

“We shouldn’t, it would unbalance the Lifestream.” Sephiroth said quietly, hating the way those words sounded, selfish and cold.

“But we revived you! Can’t we do it just this once?” Yuffie wailed as another trail of tears sprouting from her eyes.

“That was because the planet approved of it, and besides, she can see Rude again.” Tifa said softly, trying to comfort her grieving friend. Reno had his sadness hidden behind a mask of ice, and Tifa felt bad for him. She walked over to him and gave his hand a tight squeeze and a smile, which Reno only looked down at her tiredly. The stare he gave her was hooded behind his wall of ice, but she dug deep enough to see the pain, and in his eyes, it was tremendous. She looked away, but didn’t let go of his hand.

“Maybe we should…set up camp or something.” Cloud said softly, and the others nodded stiffly and began to make their tents.

Christy also could not get any sleep, so she decided some 'night' air might do her good. Stepping out of her tent, the night air hit her full blast, and the stars in the 'sky' winked at her as she walked, rubbing her arms madly to try and conserve her warmth. She walked along the corridor, hand trailing on the vines until she pressed her hand on a stone that gave way, revealing a small passage. Always being the curious one, she followed it until she got into a small room that held a window, red plush couch, and a small oak table. The moonlight cast a ghostly glow in the room, making it seem serene. Then she noticed something shining in the light, and she stepped forward to see it was a beautiful gold ring, that had diamonds shaped around emeralds to look like flowers. It looks just like his eyes…I wonder whom it’s for. Christy thought, slipping the ring on, and it fit perfectly. She admired it for a moment before she heard a voice say,

“It looks so beautiful on you, but not as beautiful as you.” She turned around to see Sephiroth, and her eyes softened as she took his hand.

“Is it for me?” Christy asked, and Sephiroth nodded. She squealed, and pulled him into a deep kiss.

“I can’t stand the thought of losing you, so before anything happens, I want you to know that I love you, and I want you to marry me.” Sephiroth said, getting down on one knee, looking nervous as Christy gasped after they had broken the kiss. Sephiroth truly loved her, and after Elena had died, well...he didn't want Christy to die without him getting this out first.

“Of course I’ll marry you!” Christy exclaimed, and pulled Sephiroth back into a kiss, tears streaming down her face.

“Oh! How sweet!” Tifa and Yuffie sniffled, seeing Christy ring as she blushed. Reno grinned at Sephiroth, giving him a hearty slap on the back.

“Didn’t know ya had it in ya Sephy! Now they have something to be cheery about, instead of all that depressing crap they were yakking about earlier.” Reno said, though his eyes were still sad. Even if sometimes he couldn’t stand Elena, she had been a Turk with him, a fellow comrade. He would miss her dearly. Sephiroth just shrugged, a tinge of pink on his cheeks, but he said nothing, just stared at Cloud piercingly, who stared back with the same intensity. He still didn’t approve of him and his sister, that much was obvious. Sephiroth just jerked his head in Christy’s direction, who was smiling and blushing, and Cloud caught her giving Sephiroth a look of pure, unwavering love. Cloud closed his eyes briefly, a bittersweet smile on his face, and when he opened his eyes, he shrugged, walking off, but it was still clear to Sephiroth what he meant.

“How sickening.” Koshinee sneered, looking at the scene in obvious disgust. Moniva simply shrugged, and turned to James, eyes hardening.

“Take out these fools with the rest of your group. If you fail, you will suffer for eternity, I swear it.” Moniva hissed, and James gave a curt bow.

“I assure you, we will not fail, but I do request some of your power.” James said, quite diplomatically. He had learned it was best to suck up to mother and her sisters, and everything went along fine. Jenova’s black eyes flashed, and James spurted, coughing as if something pained him. Then he straightened, flexing his arm and grinning madly. Koji’s experiments paled in comparison to the power that flowed through his veins now. He grinned and bowed, ushering the two members of his team out. Avalanche would soon have a confrontation they’d never forget.

“Ahh!” Yuffie shrieked, as a surprise attack sent her reeling backward, knocking into various other people before landing on her back, knocking the wind out of her. An evil laugh sounded, and three figures stepped out of the smoke that had formed when they had made their entrance.

“Chibi.” Tifa whispered, nodding at the blue dragon, who began to expand, slowly, so not to direct attention to himself.

“Well, well, well. Here we are again, a showdown. Why don’t you surrender now, we are by far superior. Mother is with us!” James proclaimed, and Reno and Yuffie rolled their eyes.

“Right.” They said, dragging out the word, layered heavy with sarcasm.

“Charge!” James screamed, running forward, not noticing how Brad hung back, and watching Yuffie intently. Malanda had begun summoning her most powerful magic.

“I have a feeling that these three aren’t it.” Sephiroth whispered.

“Well I’m up for a fight!” Yuffie stated, rushing forward, shuriken drawn.

“Let’s do it!” Tifa seconded, running after Yuffie, headed for Malanda. The guys turned to each other as if to say, ‘women’, and they too rushed forward.

“Huh?” Malanda shrieked, seeing a Cetra and a very ticked off ex-Turk rushing for her. Flicking her wrist, fire spewed at the two, but they came out of the flames, both unscathed, except for burns here and there.

“You up for this?” Reno asked, and Tifa nodded, rushing forward, sword drawn, Reno right behind her, nightstick crackling merrily. With another fireball coming their way, they separated, Tifa going left and raising her sword high with a yell, Reno going right, his nightstick thrusted out in front of him. With a scream, Malanda staggered off a distance, before falling with a sickening thud to the ground.

“Haha! The rush!” Yuffie squealed, heading toward James along with Cloud, who shrugged. The familiar surge of adrenaline was getting to the young ninja, and it felt so good, after a while of being inactive in battles. This was what she lived for.

“Prepare to die!” James snarled, intent on killing them, then he’d move to that blonde girl, the one Sephiroth seemed to like so much. He would taste the pain that James had experienced, losing his precious Anita. Yuffie let lose her shuriken, James also letting his weapon fly, and they clanged together, flying off into the distance.

“Ugh!” Yuffie shrieked, dropping back to begin collecting energy from the planet, the air between her hands shimmering and sparkling, collecting with pulsing energy. With a cry, Cloud dashed forward, his sword going for a cutting blow. James simply smirked, taking out a gun and taking a quick shot, getting Cloud to his knees, trying to stop the bleeding. Rolling his eyes, he turned to Yuffie, who was letting lose another ball of energy, which he dodged easily, coming up to Yuffie, who shrieked and rolled out of the way, revealing a smirking Christy.

“Say hi to Annita for me.” She said, lifting her fun and shooting, and James jerked back with impact, falling limply to the ground.

Jenova and her sisters frowned, and nodded to each other. Chanting a quick spell, a green mist began to flow from their fingers, aimed at the current Cetra and Saquri.

“Look out!” Brad snapped, shouldering his sword and with a quick chant, he countered, a white mist flowing from his sword, the green and the white clashing. Jenova glared at him, piercingly, and he felt her probe his mind with agonizing pain. Then with a smirk, she turned and pointed her finger at Yuffie.

“Die!” She snarled, shooting a beam at the Saquri, who shrieked, but didn’t move, too busy seeing her life flash before her eyes.

“Godd***it!” Brad snapped, rushing for the ninja at the same time Cloud started forward. Scooping her up like he would a child, he rolled out of the way, just as the beam hit his leg. With a curse, he dropped the startled ninja, examining his leg, wincing as the beam began to eat as his flesh. Yuffie was still gaping at him in shock as he healed himself, trying out his sore leg.

“W-W-W-Why did you save me?” Yuffie asked, her eyes wide, and Brad grinned, his brown eyes twinkling.

“I’ve been watching over you Yuffie, surely you know?” Brad asked, and Yuffie looked deep into his brown eyes, furrowing her brow. Who was he…?

~*Author’s Notes*~ First off, sorry about such sad battle scenes. My brother was off somewhere, so I didn’t have my usual gore expert, and battles aren’t my thing. *sniffles* Well, who could Brad be? You tell me, cause I have no clue. Maybe he has a crush on our dear ninja, or maybe something deeper…

Chapter 16: Jenova, Moniva, and Koshinee

“Ack! I can’t believe this!” Jenova snarled, as her other sisters laughed, completely oblivious to Avalanche and the traitor.

“Daddy is going to be so disappointed sister!” Koshinee laughed, and Jenova growled, looking down at Avalanche in disgust.

“Let’s get this over with. This planet is way overdue for a Jenova takeover.” Jenova hissed, while the other sisters rolled their eyes.

“B-B-B-Brad? Brad!” Yuffie squealed, jumping on him in a massive ninja bear hug. “I was so worried! Where the h*** were you, you b******? Gawd big brother!” Yuffie shrieked, and she giggled as Brad turned red, but said nothing.

“Isn’t this the family reunion? So sad we have to break it up so soon.” Jenova stated, floating down with her sisters, glaring at the opposing side with anger and hatred.

“Tifa, you Chibi and Yuffie take Koshinee.” Sephiroth instructed, and the three nodded, rushing off, and Sephiroth assumed his role as General once again. “Christy, Brad, Reno, take one Jenova.” The three were off, and Sephiroth turned to Cloud and shrugged.

“Moniva it is.” Cloud said, trotting off in her direction.

“Get ready Yuffie!” Tifa shouted, sprouting her angel wings along with Yuffie.

“Got it!” the young ninja replied, pushing off from the ground and spreading her wings. The battle would be intense, Yuffie knew, but this was only the beginning. The air around them was shimmering, like it knew something big was coming. Cries of battle were surrounding them as they flew through the air, twisting and dodging Koshinee’s attacks, while dishing out their own. With a yell, both girls formed a huge energy ball, and then threw it at the monster that hid behind human flesh. Laughing, Koshinee dodged, firing off her own ammunition. While dodging and shooting, Chibi was growing bigger and growling, soon he was as big and tall as he was when you summoned him. The great beast roared, shaking the field and making some of the walls crumble. Koshinee faltered for a split second, but that was enough.

“Now!” Tifa shouted, and Chibi, her and Yuffie formed an enormous energy ball by forming them together, and shooting it at Koshinee. Weak and near death, Chibi took the honors and flamed away, the youngest sister of Jenova turning into a flaming mess of tentacles, the smell of burnt flesh lingering around the whole place. Screaming, the youngest sister was swallowed by the earth, incased in ice and stone, her pretty face twisted in hatred and pain.

“Koshinee! You foolish mortals will pay!” Moniva screamed, lunging at Brad, Reno, and Christy.

“Head’s up!” Reno shouted, dodging the mad woman/beast. Reno shocked her with his nightstick, putting it on high voltage, and Christy shot at her head, only to see she was mutating as a green blob.

“That doesn’t look too good…” Brad said, and Christy formed an energy ball and shot it at Moniva, and smiled as she howled in pain, but didn’t retaliate.

“I have an idea!” Christy shouted, and she began to pray, energy being sucked near her.

“D***** woman! This isn’t the time for praying!” Reno snarled, and Chi came up behind him. He knew because the ground was shaking.

“She’s summoning her guardian. A nice looking dragon I might add.” Chibi boomed, and Brad looked at the blob.

“Shouldn’t we do something?” He asked, and Tifa shook her head, wings now gone.

“No mortal weapon can destroy her now.”

Reno sighed and said, “This sucks! How are we going to help?”

“By living.” Yuffie said, and Reno understood. It was like the planet didn’t trust the humans to help it, but Reno would. He wanted to make up for past sins. With a cry, Christy released a blue colored beam, the shock wave startling everyone around her, and they watched in awe as it wrapped around the air to form a long serpent dragon. It was silver, with golden eyes and claws, and it went straight to Jenova and flamed ice at the creature. Chi joined in the fun, icy flames coming out of his mouth and together, the blob melted and iced over, until Moniva was frozen in a case of ice, frozen flames licking at her, and the planet too, gulped her up greedily.

Jenova was sweating heavily. Those foolish mortals had defeated her sisters! And now they had two guardians! This cannot be happening! I was supposed to win, not lose! Jenova thought frantically, looking around the room like a rat trapped in a corner with cats encircling her. And that was how it really was. She had toyed with the humans, and as the saying says, what goes around, comes around. Backing up slowly, they moved toward her, the guardians growling and their golden eyes were gleaming with malevolence.

Jenova gulped, and let out, “Daddy!” and that’s when the dragons tore her apart, the occasional sword blade piercing her flesh.

“It’s so nice to meet my guardian!” Christy said, hugging the dragon’s muzzle, whose name was Angel.

“It is nice to finally meet my mistress.” Angel replied, and Christy giggled, stroking the dragon's nuzzle affectionately.

“What did Jenova mean by daddy?” Reno asked, and they all looked at Sephiroth, figuring since he’d been controlled by her the longest, he’d have some clue.

“He is coming, I can feel his presence getting stronger.” He said, closing his eyes, and indeed, you could feel evil descending on the corridor like Meteor to this planet. The familiar feeling of dread hung in the air as heavy as the perfume the flowers gave off.

Tifa opened her eyes, and said, “He’s here.” That’s when they heard a booming laugh that was filled of malice. Fearful of what they might see, Avalanche turned around slowly, the guardians growling fiercely.

~*Author’s Notes*~ Okay, most of this chapter I got from the original cause I was too lazy to rewrite that crap, and I’m almost done with this story! *throws confetti in the air* I love it! As much as I like this story, I hate revamping, so this has been a pain, but pretty fun I suppose. Well, hopefully this story was better than when I first wrote it. I have more experience now, I thinkie. Well, till next time.

Chapter 17: Exorcising the Demon

“This…is a joke…right?” Reno asked, looking at a little thing that was about a foot tall that resembled a carrot. It had gray skin, looking rotted, but it had the same beady black eyes and green hair sprouting from its head that Jenova and her sisters had. Where its feet should be, it only had a point, like a carrot.

“It’s no joke, that’s him alright.” Chi growled, showing his fearsome fangs, his eyes flashing with silent rage.

“Are you sure?” Yuffie asked, walking up to the thing that was supposed to be Jenova’s father. Just about to touch the thing, the creature opened its eyes and a tentacle shot out of its small body, wrapping itself around Yuffie. Yuffie screamed and everyone rushed forward, drawing their weapons.

“Let her go!” Brad snarled, hacking away at the creature that was growing until he reached the roof of the corridor. Sephiroth and Cloud were blasting away at it with their energy balls, and the girls were following their example. Even the guardians were helping out, burning the base of his feet.

“Hiuia uid aiud udi wieie ueeue!” The monster screeched, flinging Yuffie around, who looked like she was going to be sick.

“I don’t think this is working at all!” Cloud snapped, and Sephiroth nodded, quickly tiring at the pace they were going.

“Any suggestions?” Reno asked, zapping at the monster.

“We have to get Yuffie free for our plan to work!” Christy shouted, and Tifa nodded, sprouting her wings and flying up to where Yuffie was.

“What the h*** is she doing?” Reno shouted, and Christy shushed him, glancing back up where Yuffie and Tifa had disappeared to.

“Distract him!” Sephiroth said, understanding the plan. The others did as told, knowing that whatever was going to happen would decide everyone’s fate on the planet.

Tifa flew, twisting and dodging the many tentacles that sprouted form the thing. Yuffie was now buried under so many of them, and Tifa could only see a glimpse of her shuriken, meaning that she was trying to hack away at the gray mass of a tentacle. Got to get to Yuffie! C’mon Tifa, you can make it! Tifa told herself, barely missing a tentacle that went whizzing by her.

“Yuffie!” Tifa shouted, seeing the distressed ninja fighting the tentacle.  Taking out her sword, she neatly sliced the withering thing in half, catching Yuffie before she fell.

“Thanks Teef.” Yuffie said, sprouting her wings as they dived to the floor of the corridor, dodging the tentacles that were sprouting everywhere, making the once carrot like structure to look like a tree with vines.

“You ready?” Yuffie asked, and Tifa nodded. Hopefully this was the last battle the Cetra and Saquri had to fight.

Please Tifa…be careful. Reno thought, electrocuting the thing while it whipped at him with one of its many tentacles, sending him sprawling. Go Yuffie! You can do this task! Brad thought, taking a slice, then jumping out of a tentacles way as it shot out for him. Be careful Christy! Sephiroth and Cloud thought, also charging forward and hacking away, only moving when a tentacle shot out to get them. The guardians were no help; they seemed to be in the same trance that the women were in. Just as the hideous creature was about to shot a destructive beam, a purple beam shot out from Yuffie, then a blue one from Christy, stopping the beasts beam, making him seem a frozen, but Avalanche could see the beam was still coming. Soon, the two dragons helped in, beams melting together to form one huge one, keeping the monster at bay. Tifa’s silver beam flashed lastly, and when all the beams melted together, they formed another dragon, a giant one, bigger than Chi or Angel could ever hope to be. It wound its long transparent body around the beast, strangling him. Their were beastly roars were deafening, and everyone but the guardians and the girls who summoned them, covered their ears, recoiling from the sound, shock waves nearly knocking everyone back. Then a beam shot from the mouth of the mighty dragon, but they could see it was losing. It emitted a fierce wind before it disappeared, almost knocking everyone over, but Jenova’s father looked half-dead. Another rumble shook the planet; beams blasting from Jenova's father's many wounds. Then Reno and Brad were just about to rush up and start fighting, but Sephiroth’s look said no. Questioningly, they looked back and saw that another large beam shot out from the girls out stretched hands, colored wind whipping their hair. The see through forms of the past Cetra and Saquri were behind them, each in similar stances, their faces set in determination, and behind it all, another figure appeared, larger by far, her green eyes twinkling happily, and blue hair gently swaying in the wind. The impression they got was she was old and wise, sweet and gentle. The planet.

“Evil be gone!” The three woman screamed, white beams of light blasting from their outstretched hands, as with the other Cetra and Saquri, and the Planet just smiled, giving a wink, and disappearing. The beam struck the horrid beast, unearthly cries coming from the wanna be carrot. With a weak cry, it fell to the ground, a loud thump heard, and a boom echoing throughout the entire planet. With a sneer, Cloud and Sephiroth stabbed the thing, making it unleash an unearthly scream, the ice incasing its body, and the planet also gulped the case up. Soon, a beam shot out from the ground, and ghostly images of the past Cetra and Saquri appeared, all with angels’ wings, dancing around the beam singing along with the planet as it sang as high as it could, clapping their hands to an unheard rhythm. Rain pored down on the ground, and down all of the Cetra and Saquri’s faces, rejoicing along with the planet. It felt that the planet was cleansing itself, and a rainbow streaked the sky again, making everyone gape in wonder. They didn’t see Aeris this time, but they didn’t to know that she was there, smiling. During all the celebrating, Tifa grabbed Reno’s hand and squeezed it, smiling slightly, Reno smiling back, knowing that she cared for him; at least that's what his heart hoped. Christy and Sephiroth just smiled at each other and she pulled him in for a long kiss on the lips. Cloud grinned, letting the light bath his face in its warmth. Chibi and Angel were grinning, their long fangs luminous in the light that the planet bathed itself in after weeping with joy, emitting smoke from their noses. Brad and Yuffie were smirking weakly, letting the sun wash away their tiredness. They had done it; they had destroyed Jenova and her family.

~*Author’s Notes*~ Finally! Almost done! Just the epilogue to do, and I can go on with my other fics! *smiles* Oh, hopefully the ending wasn’t too corny, I couldn’t think of anything. Well, gotta go. The school bus is coming.

Epilogue: Finally…

Christy smiled, closing her eyes, listening to Tifa and Yuffie run all over the place, like little children, saying things excitedly, occasionally coming over to her to adjust her hair or perfect dress before running off again. It was… like she had planned. Her and Sephiroth were getting married in a church, Aeris’s church, all rebuilt, restored to its former glory, the flowers growing by the walls now. It was beautiful, with its streamers, sunlight pouring through, the air was so cool and inviting, it made Christy smile. Everyone had gathered here, on this special day, though it was private. Christy smiled, remembering the shocked looks on the other members of Avalanche faces as they were told about the wedding, and more so when they found out Christy was Cloud’s sister.

As Barret had put it, “Who’d a thunk?” Christy giggled softly, turning back to her bridesmaids, giving a wink.

“You ready?” She asked, feeling nervous yet excited at the same time. It was her wedding day after all. Both girls nodded enthusiastically, and Christy gave another wink, to try to hide her nervousness. “Well then, let’s get this party started!” Christy laughed, letting her friends open the door and step out first, Tifa giving her a small squeeze on the shoulder and walking out after Yuffie. Christy smiled, closing her eyes for a moment, taking a deep breath and listening to the music as the door opened, and she smiled brightly at Sephiroth, who stood shocked at the beautiful woman that he would marry. Still smiling, she took her first step into the church, the first step into her new life with Sephiroth.

Tifa smiled slightly, watching as Christy laughed musically, Sephiroth blushing and mumbling things under his breath. The party was in full swing, and Tifa would be out there with everyone else but… She looked at Reno, who was still partying and frowned. Something wasn’t right, she could feel it. When she was sure no one would notice, she quickly slipped out into the night. Taking a deep breath, she looked at the sky. Something wasn’t right, and she knew it.

“Tifa?” She didn’t need to turn around to know who it was.

“Go back to the party Reno. I’ll be back in for a minute.” Tifa stated softly, and Reno sighed, staring up next to her.

“Something’s wrong, right?” He asked, and she nodded, but shrugged. Now, she wouldn’t deal with it. Now, she would enjoy herself until the problem presented itself. With a small smile, she tugged at Reno’s arm and lead him back into the church, taking another brief look at the sky and walking in after Reno.

~*Author’s Notes*~ Horrible ending, I know, but I thought the revised version was better than the first one I wrote.  Well, now that this is done, on to better things! *bows* Thank you for reading everyone! Please tell me what you think! *bows again* Thank you again! Till next time, be on the look out for the next part in the Cetra series! *pauses* The Cetra series? Hmm…
