Moving and Color Wars
God has been moving lately and doing some pretty awesome stuff, and so while I am generally in these journals talking about what Im getting to do, and also some of what God is doing, this journal is going to be a little more of what God has been doing, and a little less of what I have been getting to do. I think it's far better off that way too.
So for those of you who get and read my newsletters, you know I was on the verge of having to move in that news letter, but not actually knowing where to. Well in that same newsletter I mentioned that I had to cut it short because I needed to go downtown to see this flat that might possibly be a place to move to. Now I didn't know much of anything about this, but I got downtown and found my way to this big, grey apartment building with a guy named Ghaji from my Church. I didn't actually get to see the place that was available, because they didn't have the key for it, but they showed me another very similar apartment. After looking around, I was trying to seem uninterested and all, because that's how I understand this is suppost to work. But then Ghaji was telling me that if Im interested it in all that I have to decide whether I want it right now because otherwise it will be gone by the next day. So, not being aware of any other options, I said well yeah, I guess then I'll go for it. Then we got all the details settled and all, and the deal was done. This place has a joining living room and kitchen, one bedroom, and a washroom. Oh, and a very big point for me, a shower! So as apose to the three bedrooms and two washrooms from my last place in Casse Sociale, this place actually fits me quite well. Also it's $150 can.  a month cheaper than my last place was. So I found this place and got the deal settled the day after I found I had to move within a week and we all started praying for God to provide a place. God moved very quickly. It really isn't as easy as that to find a place here in Kigali, even with a few people looking for places for me. Generally people have to look for a couple weeks before they find a place. So God really provided there when He provided a place which is just about perfect for me in actually less than 24 hours for Him to do just that. Very awesome, Praise God. Also, this place is about a 20 minute walk from downtown Kigali, so that is really cool too. Anytime I get bored or need anythin I can just go for a quick walk and be right downtown.
When I moved into this place I wasn't quite as sure about it because I needed to get bedsheets, a bucket for compost, dishes, cups, a shower curtain, all sorts of things. But now everything is coming together very well. Im enjoying my place, and I dont have a tv to tempt me to dull my mind sitting in front of it anymore. And a shower! So nice! Im not really sure where Im going to get my water or do my laundry anymore, but Im sure those are details that will be worked out just fine soon enough.
So yesterday was Color Wars where we generally have Kid's Club. What is Color Wars. Kind of a concept that I came up with on my own. We divided the kids into three teams: Yellow, Green and Blue, and then played a huge three-team version of capture the flag. We had about 4 twenty minute rounds, and we had a load of fun for sure. It took the first round to kind of get used to the game, then I got to explain a little deeper on some things so that things would work better. Then we really had fun. We used the whole property that they Church Tent is on, which is pretty big, and has all kinds of hills, ridges, forest, and different kinds of terrain all over, so it is really a perfect place to play capture the flag. The kids had a blast and want to do it again. Some were asking if they could play it again next week. Haha, of course I said well sorry but we do have to do Kid's Club sometimes too. We'll do it again but it will be a little while.
Now this is the awesome thing here that God did. The day before I had this kid's cell at Pastor Komant's house because we wanted to get to jump on his trampoline a bit. But right at 4 when we're suppost to start, the thunder, clouds and rain came rushing in and kind of ruined our chance to do that. It subsided about an hour later, and after I got out there and dried of the trampoline we got to finally use it, but of course only for a much shortened time. Now I'd been telling everyone that for Color Wars, of course, if it rains, it's cancelled. The kid's will be outside the whole time and we can't have them running around in the rain. Now I was getting very nervous because right in the morning on the way to Church, a bit of rain started hitting the windshield of the bus I was on. I thought, maybe it'll rain now and be long gone by the time for Color Wars comes. And my hopes raised a bit when it started getting sunny during Church. But then Church was over, I started setting up for the event, and in came the clouds again. One big dark cloud started moving in, and then in came the ominous rumbling of thunder. Of course, I was getting quite disturbed about this, because I did not want any rain at all. But it seemed inevitable that the day before was about to be repeated with a good pouring of rain right when we wanted to start. I started going around and telling all my leaders as we were setting up, Pray, pray and pray hard that no rain falls at all. Then I started going around and praying as strongly as I could as I was setting up that God would hold back the rain. I started feeling more and more compelled against these threatening clouds and so I went outside and pointed my finger at the middle of the biggest, darkest cloud in the sky of nothing but cloud, and I declared that it will not rain, no it will not let go a single drop of rain upon this ground because that would wreck Color Wars and I won't accept that. I started declaring that I command the cloud to hold back it's rain in the name of Jesus Christ and by the authrority that is in that name. And I basically kept going on in that manner for a few minutes. At about this time I went inside and saw Benjamin, the property care-taker letting down the sides of the tent in anticipation for a downpouring. I went up to him and told him there is no point in doing this. Have some faith. I promise it will not rain today, not at all. I walked around the whole tent praying as I walked that God would hold back the rain in Jesus name. And then it was finally time to start.
We played many rounds of Color Wars, and never did it rain, no not even for a minute. We never saw a touch of blue sky or any break in the ominous and threatening clouds, but that worked well in keep the kids cool as they ran around outside. The rains never came the whole day. This morning, almost all morning it rained and rained. But I think some of that was what was held back from what surely should have fallen yesterday. By all means we should have been rained out yesterday, but by God's grace and compassion He heard my prayers and the authority of the name of Jesus Christ held true, and against all odds no rain fell upon us at all. Praise the Lord God all mighty from whom all blessings flow. He is eternally good and his mercies are never ending. Great is the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, through whom all things are possible for all people. He is the King of Kings and Lord of Lord's and He will reign on high forever and ever and ever.
