Hey there everyone. It has been a while but I am back. A few people noticed I sounded a little annoyed in my last journal. It is true I was losing my patience a bit, and I sometimes use these journals to get things off my chest. Things are much better now. Not because I have my bank card yet (yep, still don't have it), but because I just got to go on a small trip/safari with my dad, aunt and cousin, and I am hugely relaxed and at ease. Besides, it is now December, it is the Christmas season, I don't want to have to worry about that stuff anymore. And now that my dad has come here and I have gotten to sign some forms to give my mom my power of attorney, no matter what happens my problems financially will be just about over whether I get my bank card or not. If you are not sure what power of attorney means, let me explain. It means that my mom will be able to access my bank account and do anything with it just as I would be able to. So she will be able to take out all my money, put in a different bank, and take money as I ask her to and send it to me without me having to do more than ask via email. So that is just awesome. In 7 months that I have been here now, I have gotten my own money transferred to me just one time. That's not a lot. So I am looking forward to actually getting some of my own money for things again. So what else? Well I just got to go on a big safari, which was fully covered by my Dad (because Id never be able to pay for that on my own of course). It was about 8 days long and most of the days were in Tanzania. I got to see pretty much everything. We saw so many elephants so close that you could whack them with a stick if you wanted that we actually got tired of taking pictures of them. We seriously saw a lot of them. Quite a few giraffes too. I wouldn't mind having seen a few male lions and rhinos a little closer, but still, we saw those at least from a distance and we saw pretty much everything else as well. The last place we stayed I actually got woken up the last morning by rustling in the trees outside. Then I looked outside and saw a huge male elephant about 50 feet out of my window. Pretty sweet. Not the kind of wakeup that I mind too much. I will have pictures up next week sometime I'm hoping. Other than that large news, I am still working on the kid's christmas play, which is at 5:30 of December 17. So about a week and a half. Im not half as nervous about it as I was before I left on the safari. But I suppose that is for the same reasons that I am not as stressed about my financial issues as I was before I left. Things are going well with the play, and while I would like us to be a fair bit further ahead and the choir is also a little behind the desired progress line as far as learning the actions for the four songs, we have two hours of practice this Sunday, and I am sure it's going to go great. Not too much else new for right now. Basically the only big thing going on kid's ministry-wise right now is the christmas play that is coming up quick. And then I will be enjoying my Christmas in sunny Rwanda. Ah yes it is getting nicer and sunnier here everyday. I hear things are slightly different than that at home in Vancouver right now, and while I generally love a white Christmas, I can go one year in 20 degree plus weather I think. It will be a long time for me from the last time I saw snow until the next time, as I will be getting back home in April, all adding to how much I cannot wait to get to go snowboarding again. Maybe I'll just campout on Mt. Seymour for about 3 weeks during the season in a place where people who work there never look. That sounds about right to me having been away from snowboarding for this long now. |
