| SPECIAL OLYMPICS is a non- profit international program of sports training and athletic competition for persons with intellectual disabilities. It was founded in 1968 by Eunice Kennendy Shriver. SPECIAL OLYMPICS KUALA LUMPUR was registered in 2006 as a separate organisation from the initial association of Special Olympics Selangor and Kuala Lumpur which was formed in 2001. The Mission of Special Olympics is ..... to provide year-round sports training and athletes competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for persons with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community. The Goal of Special Olympics is ... to help persons with intellectual disabilities to develop their potential and to become useful and productive citizens who are accepted and respected in their communities. FIRST SPECIAL OLYMPICS FEDERAL TERRITORY GAMES The Games were held in July 2006. Ninety athletes compete in three sports in Athletics (Track and Field), Bocce and Bowling. FIRST SPECIAL OLYMPICS MALAYSIA GAMES Fourteen athletes from Special Olympics Kuala Lumpur participate in the First Special Olympics Malaysia National Games in Kota Kinabalu on 7-10 September 2006. They compete in athletics, bocce and bowling winning 16 golds 6 silver and 6 bronze. Well done athletes! GET INVOLVED and SUPPORT Special Olympics Kuala Lumpur by your contribution which directly impacts children and adults with intellectual disabilities. The organization receives no federal- or state-appropriated funds, relying entirely on corporate, business enterprise, civic and individual donations. Each Special Olympics Kuala Lumpur event or competition relies upon corporate sponsorship and individual support.
