SPECIAL OLYMPICS KUALA LUMPUR was registered in 2006 as a separate organisation from the initial association of Special Olympics Selangor and Kuala Lumpur which was formed in 2001.
The Mission of Special Olympics is .....
to provide year-round sports training and athletes competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for persons with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.

FIRST SPECIAL OLYMPICS FEDERAL TERRITORY GAMES
The Games were held in July 2006. Ninety athletes compete in three sports in Athletics (Track and Field), Bocce and Bowling.
FIRST SPECIAL OLYMPICS MALAYSIA GAMES
Fourteen athletes from Special Olympics Kuala Lumpur participate in the First Special Olympics Malaysia National Games in Kota Kinabalu on 7-10 September 2006. They compete in athletics, bocce and bowling winning 16 golds 6 silver and 6 bronze. Well done athletes!
