RANKING SYSTEM

Rating: Total Points / Event Points

The pilot’s Total Points is the primary means of determining ranking. When there is a tie the ranking will be determined by the pilot’s rating. If there is a situation where there is a tie involving pilots with exact ratings and total points a sudden death competition must take place until the tie is broken. In the event that the tie is not broken after 30 min elapsed time in the sudden death competition, the judge will make the final determination of the winner.

Competition Rules and Guidelines

CLASS A Events:
You can earn up to 10 points per landing. The number of points you acquire depends on how far you go into the competition. Your ranking will determine at what level you will begin at a Class A event. Only pilots that have participated in 3 CLASS B EVENTS (6 scored landings) can compete at a Class A Event. Note that there will only be 3 Class A events per season.

CLASS B Events
:
You can earn up to 10 points per landing (Two scored landings per CLASS B Event). You must have 6 scored landings in a CLASS B event in order to move to CLASS A Events. This usually takes participation in 3 CLASS B competitions.
Note that there will only be 6 Class B events per season. Pilots are limited to 3 CLASS B EVENTS per season. This allows for rating normalization.

VLC Playoffs:
You can earn up to 10 points per landing. Note that to be eligible to enter the VLC Playoffs you must be within the TOP 10 RANKED PILOTS. No Exceptions.

Landing Scores

Every pilot begins with the maximum amount of points for the given landing. Note that the max number of points per Event will depend on the Class of the Event.

The default aircraft for the competition is the Boeing 737. Using the Boeing 747 will result in a 0.10 point bonus. Use of any other aircraft (jet or non-jet) is prohibited.

Deductions

Bonus Points

-1.00 point (per every 1 centerline bar downfield of numbers / or upfield if applicable)

+0.10 (Use of the B747)

Up to -0.50 point (Centerline deductions will depend on the percent of deviation from centerline up to 50%)

-1.00 point (Over 51% Centerline deviation will automatically be a -1.00 point deduction

-0.50 point (Unstable approach / hard landing)

Reasons for Disqualifying a Round

- Any part of the main landing gear and nose gear touches grass or taxiways while attempting the landing.
- Running out the other end of the Runway
- Go Arounds or Touch and goes
- Mid-air stalling during the final approach
- Sabotaging other players / being disrespectful
- Main judge has the right to disqualify any competitor deemed unfit for the VLC

There are 3 Judges: The main judge, centerline judge, and threshold judge.

Let’s use a Boeing 747 landing at a Class B Event as an Example:

Pilot makes a landing 1.5 centerline bars down field of the numbers with 24% right deflection from centerline. Here’s the breakdown of the scoring process.

10 points (Beginning score at a Class B Event)
-1.50 point (1.5 centerline bars downfield of numbers)
-0.24 point (24% Centerline deviation - if the pilot would have been over 50% off centerline it would have been an automatic -1.00 deduction)
+0.10 (Use of the B747)

FINAL SCORE: 8.36
