OOC Notes on Glyphs, runes and so on.
We define these sorts of things precisely, so get a chair and a notepad.
Enchantments -short term magics that have a life relative to how much maintenance is applied to them on regular intervals.
Wards - The stablized version of enchantments, they last longer and require little or no maintenance.
Sigil - The unlimited duration version of a ward, it lasts until a preset time or until it has accomplished it's purpose, or is destroyed of course.

Petroglyphs - Petros are a relic of the first time creatures learned to write using a single crude picture to tell half a story, as such they were the first magic any species ever practiced. If one is lucky enough to meet someone who knows of petroglyphs or muchless knows how to use them your extremely fortunate, for the art of using these crude symbols to use magic in it's rawest most wild form shows a  mastery that few could attain. Petros date back before anyone tried to identify the elements, worried for good and evil, and before the very idea of society existed.

Hieroglyphs - Hieros are the next logical stage int he development of modern magic, these date back to a time when civilizations were jsut beginning to form and the people spoke with a picture for every word, stories were told with immense scripts that looked more like art then language. The magic behind these is only slightly less wild then petros, but the power levels are similar.

Old World Glyphs - These are the glyphs everyone thinks of, the ones most everyone knows quite well from the era when the first great socieities warred to take over each other when literature was first valued when ones mind was the key to the door of the world and all the nations battled to subdue the wilderness. Glyphs have very little along the way of the wild powers but they are strong, it's just that with the wild natures being removed from them, they dont quite remain charged as long.

Runes - The most modern form of magical script, runes reflect the sentient desire to civilize everything and thus inthe way a showbred dog, barely resembles a wolf, you understand that runes aren't what their parent linage is, they dont last but they can still go dormant when out of power. Even so the ease at which one can use a large number of runes and the ease of learning them makes up for any weaknesses they might have.
