The Unfinished Book, 3rd Edition

A Guide to the mistakes you never want to repeat in the day-to-day operations of Leadership.

1 Do not be an Absentee leader/ owner leaving daily operations compltely to your freinds, allys and others, as chances are things will get out of hand while you are away.

2. While making enemies is unavoidable over the course of your term, it is best to attempt not to turn to many against you and your faction.

3. A simplistic design in your Base of operations can be your best freind or worst enemy depending on who you wish to confuse with your designs, entrants or enemies.

4. No one was ever harmed by a simple passively defencive design to the outer areas of your base.

5. Less coding and graphic intensive design means a faster load and faster responce from your members and allies during a chrisis.

6. If the leader is someone other then the designer of your base, make sure the designer gets as much respect as the leader.

7. He who invades others makes a lerge bull's eye on his own back.

8. You the leader of a group should be tougher then the others in your group, but not be egotistical about it, as that will set a good example for others to follow.

9.Lead by example, you the leader are ALWAYS on stage, and as such until you leave the direct line of sight of the public you must act with dignity, and high moral standard. (Bad guys can to a extent ignore this.)

10. When it comes to breaking the rules, it is always best to assume the accused is innocent until proven otherwise, wether this means aquiring and reveiwing both side's logfiles hearing testimony or what ever other fair methods you can think of.

11. Never drastically alter your rules without ample advance warning, spur of the moment is  guaranteed to cause a schism between you and the members especially if you change rules regularly.

12. There will always be new members who arrive with a concept of how things should function wether it be  related to the rules, roleplay, the leadership, or base design. Try to be open and hear these ideas out.

13. Remember, it's your guild, rules from the outside of your guild (atleast on furcadia) do not apply, yours always take precedence to all others, you needn't even accept the basics of furcadia.

14. A leader with a short fuse = a even shorter lived group.

15. Never alter the basic design of a base to the point that your regualr members annot recognize it, this sort of thing is often thought of as tasteless or unwanted by 'ground-floor' members.

16. If you have some sort of personal guards, do not expect them to do anything more then be your last and hopefully best line of defence.

17. Having multiple top leaders is a questionable affair at best, for the reason that toes might be stepped on and personal space might get infringed. The only way this works is if all the top leaders truely work together.

18. As a leader make sure to carefully observe your military forces, as they may be may be loyal to your group but not to you.

19. Beware the hand of assasination, that blade is always two-edged.

20. When defining rules, remember to make an code of conduct that is easy to follow and clearly defines what you want from members and ranking personnel.

21. At some point or another, your authority will be questioned, and as such do not respond to it as if it's the biggest threat in the world because it isn't, try to handle it in the most reasonable way at your disposal and never overreact to such.

22. "Because I can" is never a reason for anything.

23. Removing visitors for reasons that at best are trifling, is a sure fire way to spread a little discontent.

24. There is nothing more useless then apathetic governmental figures who turn a blind eye to everything       wrong with the guild.

25. Sooner or later, all Tyranies crumble

26. Free speach is NOT a crime.

27. To alienate your veteran members is to sign your own eventual death warrant.

28. Shit happens, but good leaders always have a shovel ready, just in case.

29. To alienate your core comrades is to sign your own death warrant in the long run, your longevity is directly equal to the number of people you screw over, and as such, the more you screw the less life expectantcy you can hope for.

30. A dictator is a bloody dictator, there is no such thing as a benevolent dictator, however the worst kind of dictator is the one who either doesn't know or refuses to aknowledge the fact he or she is a dictator thus prolonging the suffering of the masses unfortunate enough to be stuck under that horrid rulership.

31. Something born from rebellion is doomed to not last the test of time,

32. Basing your group after a popular movie, tv show, book or  franchise doesn't last very long, because unfortunately most of the initial member influx is composed of people who only wish to jump the band wagon, but of course fall off easily.

33. Acheive nothing openly that could be done through subterfuge

34.You cannot presume to control every aspect of your domain; for that single action will ensure a short lifespan of your empire.

35. [8-31-04]  When continuing a themed dream, after others have done so with the patch your using, to claim you are original is akin to theft and will be veiwed as such by the poeple.

36. [8-31-04]  When operating the newest part of a line of dreams that over time share the exact same themes and concepts if you are to just suddenly state you aren't aknowledging the others histories or continuities, which in turn defeats all the RP veterans hard work  you have signed the end of your attempt to forge a new place in the line of succession.

37. [10-21-04]  Keeping your agreements is key to quelling discontent in your operating region.

38. [4-19-06] Because someone can do something better with the same basic parts you are using does not always mean they have reduced the scope of their operations.

39. [4-19-06] Respect  is not something to be demanded, in fact it is rare at best one can command respect either, it always must be slowly earned.

40. [4-19-06] If knowledge is power then why isn't a librarian the most powerful person in the world? Because Information is useless unless you understand it and can put it to work for one's self.
