Mitch D'Arlon '68. Attended FSHS from '64-'66. Found this site in an article about the Dallas reunion in the Orange County (CA) Register. Have been sitting here since 10pm (now 12am) looking through the lists and flipping through year books from 64, 65 & 66 matching names and faces. Looking at my own pix, I look alot different (thankfully!) Would love to hear from anyone. Found Fred Cannon in the lists. Fred, do you remember playing B'ball with Fred Napolillo, Al Foresi and Mike Widener then taking a walk down Via Mostra? Anyone remember the movie bus on Friday & Sat nights. And those teachers! Some of the best I ever had Mr Cussen for English, Mr Massey for World History (last I heard he went to teach at a college in the east). Anyone remember Mr. DeRita played a pretty mean drum set! The more I remember . . . the more I remember. Incredible!! The August reunion is going on my agenda. Contact me at [email protected] 5/99

The American Overseas Schools Archives (AOSA) - part of American Overseas Schools Historical Society (AOSHS) - is reactivating a program of videotaping, in 30-60 minute segments, the experiences of Americans and foreigners involved in the overseas education of American students. If you own a camcorder, or can borrow or rent one, please help! Record the stories of those who live near you, and encourage them to carry on the process by recording others. Your tapes will be carefully preserved for viewing in the AOS Historical Park Research Center and of benefit to scholars, writers, researchers, historians, and the general public in the decade ahead. The entire audio/visual collection will later be converted to compact digital audio discs. This project started in 1993 when the AOSA was located at Northern Arizona University. By 1995, when the archives were moved to Goodyear, Arizona, many valuable recordings had been made of "early day educators," a number of which have! already passed on. Time, obviously, is of the essence! We need to impress all who have been, or are involved with overseas schools, of the importance of recording the unique experiences of those who have lived and studied abroad, NOW. Contat A. Lucille Hansen, 2nd Vice President at the American Overseas Schools Historical Society, Inc., Box 777, Litchfield Park, AZ 85340, 602-935-3939 or email Dr. Thomas Drysdale at [email protected] - From the AOSHS Quarterly, Volume IV, No. 2, Spring 1999. Donna Alva, Ph.D. history candidate at the University of California in Davis, is involved in a research study about the perceptions and experiences of Americans and host citizens who resided at or near US overseas military bases in the period spanning 1945 to the early 1960s. You are invited to participate in this study, a doctoral dissertation seeking to explain how American military families and educators abroad played a role in US foreign relations during the early Cold War era. The study broadly defines foreign relations to include formal as well as informal social and cultural interactions between Americans and host citizens. It thus aims to further understanding about the role of ordinary people - military personnel and their spouses and children, teachers, and school administrators, and host citizens - in American foreign relations. Her intent is to complete the dissertation titled "'Unofficial Ambassadors': American Military Families Overseas and Cold War Fo! reign Relations, 1945-1962," and publish a historical manuscript based on the dissertation. Both will be donated to the American Overseas Schools Archives in Wichita, Kansas. Approximately 65 people have enrolled in the study and have received a questionnaire requiring up to two hours to complete. Questions regarding the study should be directed to Donna at the Department of History, University of California, One Shields Avenue, Davis, CA 95616, (530) 750-0492, email: This would be a great opportunity for FSHS-NAHS Naples alumni to be recorded in history. - The AOSHS Quarterly, Vol. IV, No. 2, Spring 1999.
