Comments from 4th Vice President
We’ve had some absolutely splendid weather for horseshoe pitching lately. It sure is nice for the daylight to last a little longer each day, too. The State Championship tournament is just around the corner. Are you warming up your shoes yet? The Executive Council has been making the plans for April and it sounds like we’ll have another great tournament this year. If you’ve ever been part of the Executive Council or part of your clubs officers or part of the tournament process, you can appreciate just how much work and creative thinking goes into preparing and planning the venue for our State Championship tournament or all the other tournaments that ‘happen’ so that everyone can enjoy themselves. I’m sure compiling the schedule each year so all the clubs can have tournaments that are evenly distributed must be quite an interesting procedure.
I have openings for two different committees that I am responsible for at the present. I am looking for a volunteer to be on the Bylaws committee and someone (preferably from central Florida or the east coast) to be on the grievance committee.
The last issue of the NHPA Newsline had some info regarding the RGS book and an error that is printed in it. Evidently they used a website version of the Bylaws that was not the latest updated version and they transferred the error. It has to do with open tournament eligibility only, and does cover state and world tournaments. On page 28 of the RGS, which is Requirement 2, Section B – Eligibility, it states that tournament participation in open tournaments is restricted to contestants holding a current NHPA card, and also to players who meet any imposed eligibility requirements. This wording about additional requirements was removed by delegate vote at the 2004 convention, and is reflected in the 2005-2006 edition of the blue Bylaws book, for those of you who would like to check. Therefore, what the rule states is that tournament directors cannot impose additional eligibility requirements for tournament entry, such as requiring a certain number of events to enter. This would only prevent new pitchers from entering tournaments. The correction will be made in the next RGS book printing.

Many Thanks!
The Beverly Hills Horseshoe Club had a Jr. Scholarship Tournament on Feb. 9, 2008 and made a contribution of $300.00 to the US Family Foundation Scholarship Award. Also Eileen in memory of her husband Edwin Fox contributed $200.00 to extend the John Reynolds Memorial Award for another year, $100.00 each going to the boy and girl champion at the Florida State Tournament.
Sincere thanks to all who support the Jr. Scholarship Award.
