Comments From First Vice President
The Club Team Championship tournament is scheduled for Saturday,
January 26th, 2008 in Clearwater.
By a majority vote the rules for this tournament were changed again by the
FSHPA Executive Council this year. All classes will be handicapped at 90% with count
all scoring. The team with the highest total points scored plus the handicap
will be the winner. The team members combined ringer percentage cannot exceed
230. Personally I think 230 is to low as 5 of the 9
teams entered last year exceeded the 230 limit. The complete rules should be
published elsewhere in this newsletter. It’s time to start forming your teams
now. Since the rules this year for this tournament are completely different
than what they were when this tournament was first originated, please provide
some feedback to the executive council after the completion of this year’s
tournament, as to your likes or dislikes of the rules used for the tournament.
Do you want to keep it this way, go back to the original format, one of each
format during the year, or what? We need to remember this is supposed to be a
fun tournament that will bring all of the clubs together at one place and time
to pitch horseshoes, socialize, and have fun. I hope all of the clubs will
participate.
Some members of the state association had requested that
the Clearwater Horseshoe Club schedule a Sunday tournament following the Club
Championship tournament so they could spend the weekend and play in two
sanctioned tournaments in one weekend. After consideration the club has decided
not to hold a tournament on Sunday. This leaves Sunday open for the Club
Championship in case more than 18 teams enter this event or in case of a rain
out on Saturday.
At the next Executive Council meeting on January 25th,
2008 in Clearwater
we will be formulating the plans for the state tournament. If you have a
complaint or suggestion about the setup of the previous state tournament,
please discuss it with one of the officers, submit it in writing, or ask to be
heard at the meeting. We will do our best to make it fair and enjoyable for
all.
As the Hall of Fame Committee Chairman I would like to
remind everyone that the deadline for Hall of Fame nominations is March 1st,
2008. Anyone may recommend a candidate. The nominating letter should be
addressed to the Chairman, Hall of Fame Committee and contain a history of the
candidate’s accomplishments in sufficient detail to permit an intelligent
evaluation of the person’s entitlement to this recognition. Hall of Fame nominees
must have been a resident of Florida
and an FSHPA Inc. member for a minimum of five years. Nominees must be an outstanding player or a
member who has performed outstanding service to FSHPA Inc., and/or NHPA, over a
period of many years.
I hope to see you all at a tournament soon. Good Luck and
Good Pitching.
