ARE YOU A HORSESHOE GIVER OR A HORSESHOE TAKER

Do you volunteer to keep score?  If so, you are a horseshoe giver; if not, a horseshoe taker who expects everyone to jump up and keep score for you.

Do you help around the courts?  If so, you are a horseshoe giver; if not, a horseshoe taker.

Do you play for just your own benefit?  If so, your’re a horseshoe taker; if not, a horseshoe giver.

Do you win a tournament and make sure everyone knows about it, and when you lose, tells nobody?  If so, you are a horseshoe taker.  A horseshoe giver tells all results of a tournament.  A horseshoe giver is a promoter of horseshoe pitching.

Do you show up at a tournament an hour before you play?  After the tournament do you leave immediately?  If so, you are a horseshoe taker.  If you arrive at a big tournament, such as the World or Las Vegas a couple of days before you play, hang around the courts and help if you can, you are a horseshoe giver.

They say a horseshoe giver is a nice person.  One day someone said to me, “You know, nice people don’t win!”  I disagree.  When someone comes up to a nice person, gives them a big smile, ahearty hand shake, a pat on the back and wishes them well, that NICE person has just won!
