Carla was found in a small pod abandoned on a beach in Queensland, Australia. The only items inside the pod were the blanket that she was wrapped in and a necklace. The pendant on the necklace was a blue/green sphere and hung on thin brown cord. She was determined to be approximately 19 months.
She was made a ward of the state and in and out of foster homes until age five. When she was five she was placed into the Miller's home. Shannon was the first to discover Carla's telepathic abilities. They grew to love each other and after a long drawn out process, legally adopted her at 8 years old.
From that moment on, Carla grew up as a UEO brat. She would jump from assignment to assignment mostly with her mother. She practically grew up in her mother's research labs. When they were station in San Diego, Shannon encouraged Carla to go to the University. Carla agreed and spent the next two and a half years there working her tail off to graduate

After San Diego, she decided she wanted to be a doctor. She was immediately accepted to Harvard and started medical school, only taking 3 1/2 years to complete it. She met a young man named Nathan Roberts there, who started out as her good friend. But later his true colors came out and she got away from him. She graduated in the top ten.
Her father secured her a position at UEO Medical Headquarters so she could be close to them but Carla wasn't happy there. She wanted to be out in the ocean.. she didn't like it on land. With the new commissioning of the seaQuest, she convinced her Dad to pull some strings. It took some doing on his part but she was assigned to the seaQuest's maiden voyage under Commander Brody.
After Commander Brody's departure from the seaQuest, several things happened that changed Carla's life forever. The crew went through a full overhaul and she became Chief Medical Officer.
Brody was replaced by a new commander, Manfred Falkla.
Things began progressing with the new commander. She found herself enjoying spending time around him.. no matter what they were doing. Slowly their relationship blossomed and on Valentines Day 2037 they were married. From the honeymoon came another surprise, Carla was pregnant. Christmas Day they were blessed with a bundle of joy, Katrina Lee Falkla.
Shortly after Katrina's birth a blast from the past came back to haunt her. An Admiral that her father got thrown out of the UEO came after her from revenge. He sent a hitman, that Carla was forced to kill in self defense. Taking another life completely shook her up. When his hitman failed to assassinate her, he came personally. Manfred came to her rescue just in time. It took some time with Manfred and Tera to realize that she had no choice but to kill the man.
When Manfred's father disappeared, he left in the middle of the night. Leaving Carla with a few month old baby. She was deeply wounded that he would desert her like that. When she was breaking down to her assistant and friend Dr. Carter, Carter kissed her. At that moment Manfred and his father returned, entering medbay. Thankfully, Manfred did not hold her responsible, though he did deck Carter.
Carla and her mother were involved in some research that proved Carla could indeed talk to Tera, one of seaQuest's dolphins. Tera has been Carla's best friend since she was assigned to the seaQuest, but she thought she was going crazy when Tera's songs made sense to her. . Research with her mother showed that Tera had some kind of bond with Carla and that her and Tera's brain waves were very similar, in fact almost identical.
Though Carla swore her mother and Carter to secrecy over this, a respiratory illness leaked out suspicion. Dr. Ephrium Sirex learned of it and set up a very elaborate deception to kidnap Carla in April of 2038. He was successful in kidnapping her and convincing the entire world she was dead... except for Manfred. Her husband could not believe she was dead and upon arriving to Miami could still vaguely feel her presence. It was over a month before Manfred could get to Miami and locate her. For that month, Sirex ran inhumane experiments on her trying to discover why she could talk to dolphins. When Manfred finally rescued her, the damage done by the experiments left her blind.
For four months, Carla lived totally in darkness. She was wrapped in a depression that frightened her husband. One day during a nap, she had a strange dream. Though she remembers very little of it, when she awoke.. she could see again.
Things went relatively normal for the Falkla's. Until in February 2039, Carla had a miscarriage. The loss of a child shook her and Manfred up quite a bit and it took them sometime to recover from the shock. The seaQuest got into several interesting situations but each time they survived.
On shoreleave in July of 2039, Carla was in an automobile accident. She had to undergo surgery and remain at a local hospital for weeks. When Manfred was able to get to her, the doctor told him that Carla was pregnant again.
When Carla was 7 months pregnant she was kidnapped by Dr. Sirex again. He resumed his testing of her. But this time she was able to get some help from Manfred's father Hans. During his rescue, Sirex was going to shoot Carla, killing her and the baby. Hans jumped in front of her. There was nothing Carla could do, except hold her father-in-law as he died. Another security officer was able to take out Sirex, so that he would never hurt her again. Manfred arrived a short while later.
On February 1, 2040, their first son was born. Josiah Marcus was born while their launch was trapped under rubble from an earthquake. Manfred had to deliver the baby boy and they all almost died as the oxygen volume and temperature dropped while they waited for seaQuest to reach them. He was a few weeks early but healthy.
When Josiah was three months old the seaQuest was taken over by a rogue special force troop. Carla was able to get both kids into the protection of the dolphins. They were hidden somewhere in the aqua tubes where the invaders could not harm them. She was captured and used in the leader, James, game of cat and mouse. When Manfred defied him one to many times he returned Carla to Manfred, raped and beaten. After that, Manfred snapped and broke free. While he was able to free some of his officers and retake the seaQuest things would never be the same.
Manfred took a desk assignment offered him trying to protect Carla and the children from anything like this. He took it at the San Diego base so that they would be near Carla's parents. Right before they left, Carla found out she was pregnant. They were both afraid that it may not be Manfred's child.
In early 2041, James returned to try and claim Carla and the unborn child. Manfred requested a transfer back to seaQuest. Neither Carla nor himself were happy with living on land. The transfer was approved and they returned.
In March they were blessed with their third child, Kenneth Stephen. The four of them live on seaQuest together.
PSYCHOLOGICAL PROFILES
Carla is a very pleasant person and tries to be friendly to everyone. She can be very stubborn and doesn't always pay attention to her own health. When she is stressed past her breaking point everyone knows it. She usually speaks softly with a hint of an Australian accent. When she is tired, her accent is thicker
Carla is very intelligent and has an almost photographic memory. She is highly telepathic and empathic. She is much more in control of her telepathy than normal. She has an almost 100% blocking ability and can even keep her husband out of her mind if she desires.
FAMILY BACKGROUND
Admiral Peter Miller has been in the UEO since 2006. He started as an Ensign and moved his way up. Dr. Shannon Miller has been a marine biologist for 20 years. She discovered the "Miller Blue Coral" in 2020. Peter and Shannon Miller met in 2010 at a UEO ecological meeting. Than Lieutenant Junior Grade, Peter Miller was a security officer assigned to the meetings. They started dating and on June 28, 2011, they were married. Not many people thought the marriage would survive because the Miller's were constantly moving and not always together. Dr. Miller had her research and Admiral Miller had his UEO career. When they took Carla in as a foster child, they had been married for 13 years. The Miller's were thrilled to have a child. At the time Carla entered the Miller's family, the Miller's were stationed in Queensland. Shannon Miller was working at a research facility there and Peter Miller was a Lieutenant and one of the security officer. They stayed there for 3 and a half years. Six months after Carla was adopted, Peter Miller was assigned elsewhere. Since then the Miller's have been moving from place to place.
