To Safety Be, Upon the Sea By: Frank Sampson I hath stood along and felt the pain, To which I hath made little gain. Caught up in the stream unyielding by, Condoning the sorrow and asking "why?" Unlike a wind-tossed vessel on the sea, That moves away to safety be, I follow that path the storm doth take, And prolong the sorrow that I did make. The storm is not the cause of woe, Or even referred to as my foe. I follow it 'round and make my way, And face it's fury everyday. To change my course and start anew Is all I really have to do. Then from the storm's path I am gone, But easier said than that is done. For the storm was once a small cloud, The hot sun, to me, it would shroud. And a slight breeze in the spring, The smell of honeysuckle so sweet it would bring. But skies grew dark and time moved on, And long before I should have gone. But instead, stayed to accept it as my own To salvage it's splendor that I once had known. And now I say my course must alter. So no more that I may falter. For it was my own hand that brought the sorrow to me, And my own hand that will lead me to safety be. "Farewell, great storm. I knew you well, And off another path I sail. You will return to tranquility, But I'm sorry, around, I wil not be." |
| from Paradise Lost By: John Milton "When the waves are round me breaking, As I pace the deck alone, And my eye in vain is seeking Some green leaf to rest upon; What would not I give to wander Where my old companions dwell? Absence makes the heart grow fonder, Isle of Beauty, fare thee well!" |
| from Charge of the Light Brigade By: Alfred, Lord Tennyson "Cannon to the right of them, Cannon to the left of them, Cannon behind them Volley'd and thunder'd; Storm'd at with shot and shell, While horse and hero fell, They that had fought so well Came thro' the jaws of Death Back from the mouth of Hell, All that was left of them, Left of six hundred" |

| I have found that it is not whether you win or lose; it's IF you play the game. Because if you don't play the game, you have already lost... Should you play the game and lose, a lesson in humility is sometimes more precious than anything a victory could ever give you. It serves to "shape the soul, and let the glory out." ~Frank Sampson |
