Cameo Apple Malus domestica (for all cultivated apples) Turkey, Russia, China & Central Asia(for wild apples) USA 159 gm (average wgt per fruit) China |
|||||||||||||
| Apple is the most common fruit since ancient times. Try asking anyone, chances are, they had tasted apples at least once in their life time. Almost all of the cultivated apples today are derived from the wild apples, which are still found in their wild forms, in Central Asia. The number of cultivars is simply mind-blogging, as it may run into ten of thousands but it is only several of them dominate the domestic market. |

| Cameo, new kid in the block | ||||||||||||||
| Cameo apple was discovered back in the 80's in Washington, USA and susequently hit the market in 1987 with a big bang. Likely to be a natural cross between 'Red delicious' x 'Golden delicious' as it was chanced upon, in an orchard of those cultivars. Yellowish-orange with glossy red stripes. Crispy and firm with a sweet-tart flavour. Excellent for snack, pie and sauce. I'm sure you have eaten an apple before but do you like it? Have your say in the interactive poll below. Happy fruiting :) |
