Review Questions: Chapter 26

1.      At the beginning of this chapter, the Mayor wonders why his daughter has not acted on her earlier threats toward him.  Why, in all probability, has Rachel not acted?  What (or who) is most likely holding her back?

2.      The Mayor suggests to Father Andrew and Doctor Wheelan that Eppie's time in jail may ultimately have a "positive influence" on her.  What type of positive influence does he suggest may occur?  How does the irony of this suggestion, given Eppie's jailhouse encounter with Billy, serve to magnify the basic dishonesty of the Mayor's stated position in the foregoing discussion with Andrew and Wheelan?
