strange pleasure when people misread him as some kind of big brute for when people take a deeper

A member of a relatively dysfunctional family Matthew thrives away from his relatives. The second
of three children to a man waiting for a 'manly son' and the first to his second wife, Matthew
seemed to be the answer to his father's prayer. Popular with everyone, athletic, interested in
sports, and even joining Security, there is just one thing that spoils Matthew for his father, his
interest is not with the ladies, as his dad's clearly was, but with the men.
Matthew never got on with his elder half brother, a romantic, sweet and soppy man still searching
for the right girl, the age gap was just not quite manageable, coupled with the fact they share
different mothers.
His relationship with his sister is just as strained, there is only so much of an energetic 15
year old girl that Matthew can take.
Growing up in the gambling environment of NEW VEGAS Matthew like so many others caught the
gambling bug and is still a betting man in both games and life, At the young age of 18 Matthew met
a wonderful guy who was so like him and they rapidly fell in love and by the time Matthew was 18
they had, much to his father's astonishment, gotten married. His life with Nathaniel was
unfortunately not meant to be and Nathaniel died of a spontaneous aortic dissection while playing
football. His anchor in NEW VEGAS gone Matthew left the colony world, and his family, to join
Starfleet.
Fitting in immensely well Matthew was popular with both his fellow cadets and his instructors and
excelled at security work, his friendly and confident manner caused his security instructor to
suggest he major in Diplomatic security, and like with so many other tasks Matthew threw himself
in to the new training with vigour.
However his recklessness and gambling nature caught up with him on his first assignment out of the
academy and he was reprimanded and transferred when he took matters in to his own hands on an away
mission and very nearly got himself and another three officers killed.
He redeemed himself on an away mission late in his second assignment when, despite heavy losses
in a war they had thought stopped, Matthew not only saved the life of a civilian dignitary several
times but also helped bring about a lasting cease fire.
His assignment on the USS PROPHECY has brought him a husband, adopted daughter and twin boys along with some hard times when he underwent torture. The assignment was cut short when the PROPHECY was lost and in the ensuing complications he was faced with two idential copies of his husband. One of them was lost in the efforts to return home and now everyone is waiting to see how he copes, not least his husband.
p> | Medical notes: After repeated torture at the hands of a drug cartel, which used their most dangerous drug in the torture Matthew suffered from a seriously weakened pulmonary and respiratory system, and thanks only to the skills of the PROPHECY medical staff did he recover from the ordeal although he is still not to the peak of his fitness.
