Chrono Cross Heaven
Chrono Cross Review.

Chrono Cross is the latest in installment of the Chrono series. Chrono Cross has an extremely complex plot such as those of Xenogears and Chrono Trigger. Chrono Cross is in many ways like Chrono Trigger. It has many characters you can recruit, many tech skills for every character. But when you play Chrono Cross for a while you will notice that the two games have big differences as well. One of the most major ones is that Chrono Cross does not revolve around time travel but dimension traveling. The two worlds in Chrono Cross are Home World and Another World. Home World is where the main character is from but he gets sucked out of that world and enters Another World where he learns he died 10 years ago.

Control: Well the plot is good but what about the game play? Well Chrono Cross has one of the best battle systems RPGs have ever seen and the element system is really easy to get used to and is one of the best systems RPGs have seen.

Battle system: The battle system of Chrono Cross is done really well. You have a choice of attacking fiercely, normally, or weakly. But the harder you hit, the harder it is to land. Beside the choices you have is the percentage of the chance you have of landing the attack. Every time you attack the percentages raise so its easier to land. Also you gain levels for Element usage from attacking. Fiercely you get 3 points, Normally you get 2 points and weakly 1 point. The more points you have, the higher level of elements you can use.

Element system: The Element system is much like the Materia system featured in FFVII. You find different elements and you can equip them on your grid. The size of depends on how many start levels you have. Defeating bosses gains you a start level. The higher the level of one slot of your grid, the level of the element you equip can be increased. For example there are two spells one is Revive and two is Blackhole. Revive is a level 1 element where as Blackhole is a level 6. You can equip Blackhole in a level 1 slot but the power of the spell will be decreased where as if you equip a revive in a level 6 slot, the power of the revive will be increased.

The system may sound confusing on paper or maybe I suck at explaining things but once you get used to it, its easy.

Graphics: Better than FFVIII worse than FFIX. Even though it is worse than FFIX its only a little worse. The in-game graphics are surprisingly done really well. The characters are designed much better than FFVIIIs sluggish characters. The FMVs in CC are almost flawless. The only other graphics in a game that are better are in FFIX. Also the world map is done in extreme detail.

Sound/Music: The music in CC is just amazing. They sound great. The song Fragments of Dreams is a masterpiece on its own. The sound effects in the game are so nice. You feel like youre really cutting something in two when you are slicing an enemy with one of Serges Shallows.

Over all Chrono Cross is a masterpiece. Square has once again given us a great game.
