A Brief Introductory Note
Back in late September of 2005, Squeaky Squad (Lisa
Chen, Joe Lee, Prapti Shah, and Alison Rankin of Period One AP Biology) obtained a
black spotted white male from a local pet store to breed with four albino
females. Dubbed Moofish for his cow-like coloring, the variable mouse served as
the basis of their entire experiment. Generations afterward would reflect
different facets of Mr. Moofish's genome, since each litter would be bred with
its sibling.
So intrigued by this mysterious coloring, Squeaky Squad began their quest on
isolating the gene for fur coloring in mice by carefully documenting the
offspring of subsequent generations.
