I enjoy Dungeons and Dragons 5E the most just because they have focused heavily on the player instead of combat. It is an easy game to pick up and learn, especially if you are in a group with some experienced players.

Dungeons and Dragons 2E is a lot more complex and the characters feel more like human beings instead of superheroes. 2E was the last edition to utilize THAC0 "Tha-ko" which stands for To Hit Armor Class 0. There are tables built around this combat model. The learning curve is steep but given the time THAC0 is almost second nature.

Pathfinder is a dark spin off of D&D 3.5E rules. They add a lot more classes and flexibility to the classes. I like the way this plays over 3.5 E because the rules are a lot easier to follow. Shadowrun is a very unique game where you have to calculate cover. The setting involves a lot of technology and different kinds of weapons.

OpenQuest is very easy to learn. I have not had the opportunity to run a game in it yet, but I feel confident about my ability to dive in and play. The game is based off d100 or percentile dice. Meaning you have a chance to succeed at literally everything even if your character has very little skill in it.

Acquisitions Inc @ PAX 2013

Above is one of the most famous Dungeons and Dragons groups out there, Acquisitions Inc. Led by Chris Perkins (DM) who creates many of the rules in D&D. He leads his group of adventurers on magnificent adventures. One of the biggest draws to this type of gaming is the limit is the imagination. There are rules which give the players an outline to follow but ultimately it is a play as you wish type game. "House Rules" exist in nearly every game. These are rules that the DM particularly specify, such as if there are race/class combinations that are not allowed, which alignment the character is. It may be a campaign where in order to succeed everyone in the party must be Evil. House rules always override official D&D rules.
