FRONTIER DISTRICT PINEWOOD DERBY
DERBY COMMITTEE

The Chairperson is responsible for all committee coordination activities. Will typically host two or three meetings in the months prior to the derby to collect and coordinate the status of all of the other committee members, and to assign/coordinate additional tasks. During the races, the Chairperson will also act as the behind the scenes coordinator of the event, coordinating solutions to all unforseen "emergencies" should they occur. May also act as the Master of Ceremony during the derby.
Typically two or three Track Officials are required. Before the race, responsible for assembly and testing of the track and timers, and effect any repairs that might be necessary. Responsible for the derby race procedures. During the races, the track officials are responsible for running and monitoring the races.
Typically two or three Registrars are required. Responsible for check-in, weighing, conformance to the derby construction rules, and impounding of the cars. The Registrars MUST be familiar with the construction rules. This can be a "tough" job!
There will be typically 3 Starting-Line Stewards or STARTERS, 2 Finish-line stewards or FINISHERS, and 1 or 2 PIT CREW STEWARDS. The Starters are responsible for ferrying the cars from the impound table to the starting-line, and staging and starting cars. The Finishers are responsible for working the finish line during the races, and involves crowd control on the finish-line area, and ferrying cars from the finish-line and back to the Starters for impounding after each race. The Pit Crew Stewards are responsible for observing any repairs made after the races have started to ensure that applicable Derby Rules of Conduct are observed.
One or two individuals. Before the race, responsible for developing a chart method to be used for the races. During the races, the Result Chart Team is responsible for reporting current race statistics. As race data comes in from the Track Officials, they are reflected on the result chart. This allows the participants to see current status.
The Sponsors & Awards Coordinators are responsible for locating local businesses and organizations that will provide a place for the derby, and/or contribute decoration items, giveaways, raffle goodies, trophies, etc. They are also responsible for the purchase of trophies, medals, certificates, and/or patches. At the races, may also be the same person who would be responsible for coordinating the sale of raffle tickets.
Will need volunteers to set-up and decorate the place about an hour before the start of registration. Will also need volunteers to help with post-event cleanup.
