| Biography: Kristi Summer Lovett, born in 1975 to Larry and Delores Horn. Kristi is a "true local" as she has lived in Crescent all her life except the years when she attended college, got married, etc... Her husband is John Lovett, and they have three wonderful children, Josiah, Mariah and Micah. Kristi said "Growing up, she never thought that her life's path would bring her back to Crescent, but now that it has, she is grateful." She attended Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee, Oklahoma, where she received a Bachelor's Degree in Art Education. Her first choice of career was not in Art. She had never had the opportunity of formal art education, so it did not occur to her as a viable option. While at OBU, she decided to take an Art class just for fun. After she discovered it, she loved it, and immediately changed her course of study. She had always planned to be a teacher, and enjoyed her training in that field and so it made sense to combine the two. After graduation, she taught for one year at Cashion High School, and since 1999, she has taught Art at Crescent High School. Kristi said "Being the first Art teacher at her own high school has been a great opportunity. It is awesome to be able to provide a creative outlet for our students and to help build their critical thinking skills through the artistic process. Our program has grown from a part-time position offering one level of Art to a full-fledged Art Education program. We have students in six levels of classes as well as an elementary program. In the Crescent Art program, a student has the opportunity to experiment with many different media including clay, stained glass, batik, murals, textiles, painting and drawing, as well as many others. As a teacher, I strive to enable my students to express what they are seeing, thinking and feeling. |
