| An Introduction to Frances Macy.... Frances Miller Macy grew up on a farm near Crescent, Oklahoma in the forties. Both she and her husband, Phil, graduated from Crescent High School and Central State College. They then lived on both the west and east coasts and settled in St. Louis, MO for over 40 years where they raised their two daughters. In 1997 they returned to Oklahoma, built a home in Edmond and restored a 100 year old family farm house (a Centennial Farm) near Crescent. A distinguished educator, an advocate and political voice for young children, Frances continues her involvement in Oklahoma as a Master Gardener, a docent for children at the Oklahoma Historical Society, the Oklahoma City Art Museum and other art activities for public schools. She and Phil are founding members of the Crescent Frontier Country Historical Society Museum. She has served on the Logan County Historical Society Board, on the OSU Extension Council Board and the Area Wide Aging Council. She has been Director of Children's Activities for the International Bluegrass Festival. She attends the First Presbyterian Church of Edmond. After 32 wonderful years of teaching first grade, Francis always dreamed of writing children's books and painting when she "finally had time." The books may be on hold, since the joy of painting has taken precedence at the moment. She considers herself a "beginner" with much to learn, but returning to her "home country" has inspired her to paint the landscape of her youth and she speaks of the big sky and simple beauty of Oklahoma now and then. |
