| More than 60 works of art by nine Crescent High School Seniors are currently on display
in the Frontier Country Historical Museum, as the Outstanding Senior Artist Exhibit of 2006.
Senior students exhibiting their art include Sarah Backus, Dannelle Barker, Joseph Billen, Roger Blake, Jacob Butts, Karmen Clark, Tyler French, Kaylea Schemm and Josh Silvey. This exhibit is the "culmination of many years of hard work and shows each student's body of work," according to Crescent High School Art Instructor Kristy Lovett. A wide range of art forms are represented in the exhibit, including oil painting, acrylic painting, water-color, pen and ink, charcoal, graphite, colored pencil, scratchboard, glass etching, glass mosaic, collage, batik, book making, ceramics, pottery, shadowbox, spray paint, pastel, and painted furniture. Many of the pieces in the exhibit are the result of class assignments, as interpreted by each of the students - utilizing the methods, materials and techniques they have learned about in class, to come up with their own individualized style. Each of the nine seniors in the exhibition will contribute one of their works to Crescent High School, where it will be framed and kept as a part of the permanent collection. One student from among the nine has been selected as The Outstanding Senior Artist, by a panel of judges from the Art Department at the University of Central Oklahoma, in Edmond, that reviewed the exhibition recently. The winning student, who will receive a $100 scholarship for educational use, will be announced during a reception for all nine students on Sunday, April 23, 2:00 p.m. at the FRONTIER COUNTRY MUSEUM. The judging for the runner-up position resulted in a tie, so two students will each receive a $50 scholarship. Art students who have won awards during this school year will also be given recognition at the reception. Art Instructor, Kristi Lovett, indicated she is "very excited about the exhibit." "It gives our students a chance to see their entire portfolio of work in a professional environment," adding that "it prepares them for college-level exhibits. Several of the students have indicated plans to pursue art as a career, or at least a serious hobby. The FRONTIER COUNTRY HISTORICAL MUSEUM is open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Sundays 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Entry is free for museum members. A small fee is charged of non-members, to help with Museum operations and maintenance. Phone (405) 969-3660 |
