Mientkiewicz traded to the Mets; TwinsFest nears

From the Seats, January 28, 2005

BOSTON - Shortly after Carlos Delgado signed with the Marlines Boston traded Doug Mientkiewicz to the Mets for first base prospect Ian Bladergoren and cash. The Red Sox had a log jam at first with Kevin Millar and were looking to trade one of the two.

Mientkiewicz who was traded from the Twins at the trading deadline will start his NL career this year with the Mets. He is also in the spot light because of a World Series ball that he caught to make the last out with, he still has it and supposedly it is going with him to New York.

As I have stated before I am no Met fan, they rank right up there with the Yankees, maybe it is the tie to New York? This will either be good for both sides or really bad for Doug.

So why am I talking about a guy who was traded from the Twins last July? Because Doug Mientkiewicz seems to still spark some fire, and interest among Twin fans. He has not been removed from a Twin uniform for very long.

Mientkiewicz will make $3.75 million this season, and $4 million in 2006, far more than the Twins could ever afford if he were to have stayed here as a back up.

Sometimes things pan out for the best.

Good luck Doug!
