4 Twins file for Arbitration; Looking at the schedule (April)

From the Seats, January 16, 2005

MINNEAPOLIS - Johan Santana, Carlos Silva, Kyle Lohse and J.C. Romero were among 89 Major Leaguers to file for arbitration on Friday. Arbitration dates are from February 1-20. Clubs can negotiate with players until the hearing date and often agreements are reached right before going into arbitration.

The Twins have already started talks with Santana but Terry Ryan has he doesn't expect anything to happen in the near future.

Last year Santana lost his arbitration case and earned $1.6 million. Don’t worry Twins fans, have faith in Terry Ryan.

Silva, who was acquired last offseason in a trade with the Phillies for Eric Milton made $340,000. For his first season as a starter he went 14-8 with a 4.21 ERA, he is bound to get a raise in arbitration if the Twins cant sign him.

Lohse made $395,000 last year and has the wonderful agent Scott Boras, who will do all he can to suck way to much money, certainly more than Lohse is worth out of the Twins. At most with a disappointing 2004, 9-13 with a 5.34 ERA Lohse should get the same he made this year. Unfortunately with Boras as his agent that will be all but avoidable. It is just a matter of how little of an increase they can keep him to. I am assuming a contract for Lohse wont happen this year, instead the Twins will take their chances in arbitration.

Looking at the schedule (April)

MINNEAPOLIS - After looking at the schedule I have come to some thoughts about it and will take some time to go over this years schedule month by month. I have projected dates of when Johan Santana will pitch, assuming he will be second in line, of course that might change, if so, the projected dates will be changed.

The Twins will start off the season in Seattle, a team that might be a very different one than what they have seen last year. The Twins will open at home against the White Sox, who they will see often in the month of April, along with the Tribe. The Twins will also get an early national audience on Sunday April 10th when they face the White Sox on Sunday Night Baseball.

The Twins will than host Detroit, not as easy as it once was and than face Cleveland for the first time. A short stop in Chicago and its home for KC. Than on the road to see the Tigers and Royals.

The Twins will have their fulfillment of the Central in April. They end the month with the Angles making a visit here. The Twins should have a good idea how the season will go by the Time the Angles make their appearance in the Dome.

If the Twins can take care of business with the White Sox and Tribe they will be in good shape, if not they might have a hard time competing for the rest of the year. April will be a defining month. As always it is important to get off to a good start. But this year it might be more important than others.

Johan Santana is projected to pitch in April on the following dates against the following teams: 5 SEA, 12 DET, 17 CLE, 22 DET, and 28 KC. White dates are home games, also visit the Johan Santana section of this page to see the rest of his starts.
