Rooting for the "Other Teams" in playoff time
MINNEAPOLIS - With the loss of Saturday still hanging over head the playoffs go on, without the Twins. Tonight the series that most of the country wanted to see will get started. The Red Sox in Yankee stadium.
These two teams have been taken under the wings of ESPN, this is what they have wanted since last season. It will get to the point where the rest of the country will not be able to watch it they will get so in depth with the series. So who to cheer for?
The Red Sox look to be clear favorites for most of the country to win the series. Maybe not favorites in Vegas, but I think most of the country will be pulling for the Red Sox. That is not including the few so called Yankee fans. You know the type. They say the like baseball but live here in Twin country yet cheer for the Yankees. They say they have their reason, but when you ask them about the Yankees, all they can bring up is how cute Jeter is. Or how great they were in the late 90s.
Here in Minnesota, it has to be a clear choice to cheer for the Red Sox, they have two former Twins, David Ortiz and Doug Mientkiewicz. Ortiz has become a huge power threat after arriving in Boston and Mientkiewicz has been used as a late inning defensive sub. I suppose it could be said they did this so they dont have another Buckner. They are the Red Sox after all, they will go to extreme lengths to not re-live the past!
In the NL we have the Cardinals and Astros. This one is not clear cut many AL fans. The Twins have not played either team in recent years. So it is more difficult to pick one.
The Astros do offer Roger Clemens, who the Twins had to put up with for way to long in the AL, now that he is not a Yankee and in the NL it is ok to cheer for him! The Astros are also responsible for Beltran being out of the AL Central Division.
The Cardinals are a team that is something like the Twins would like to be. They have defense in some gold glovers and they can hit the ball.
No matter who you choose to cheer for in the remainder of the post season you can have fun with it, and get into it as much as you want. Just remember that baseball is not over, and watch it now, because there is none in Janurary.
