Happy New Year; Johnson close to pinstripes
From the Seats, January 1, 2005
MINNEAPOLIS - Happy new year to all! Hope everyone has a safe and happy start to 2005!
Should auld
acquaintance be forgot
and never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot
and days of auld lang syne?
For auld lang syne, my dear,
for auld lang syne,
we'll take a cup of kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.
Should auld acquaintance be forgot
and never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot
and days of auld lang syne?
And here's a hand, my trusty friend
And gie's a hand o' thine
We'll tak' a cup o' kindness yet
For auld lang syne
Yankees try to put damper on New Year
NEW YORK - It is not official yet, but it has been said to be close, that Randy Johnson could be dealt to the Yankees for Javier Vazquez, Brad Halsey, Dioner Navarro and $8.5-9 million in cash. The cash would be to defray the $10.5 million that Vazquez will make for the 2005 season.
Once Bud Selig approves the deal the Yankees will have 72 hours to negotiate a contract extension with Johnson, who is set to make $16 million in 2005.
The Yankees continue to add to their Evil Empire, last year A-Rod, now Johnson. Will we see the $200+ million payroll? I am guessing so. But I don't think they will win, the Yankees can go get Beltran and still not win, well they will have a winning record but wont win the World Series, wont even make it to the World Series. I don't think they can play as a team, not enough to do what it takes.
