Nationals to stay in D.C.

From the Seats, December 23, 2004

WASHINGTON - The Nationals might be able to get off the roller coaster they have been riding trying to figure out if their stay in the District of Columbia would be for one year or many more to come.

With a 7-6 vote the council approved a revised law that will urge private financing but will not require it. All that needs to be done to make the deal final is for Mayor Anthony Williams to sine it. Bud Selig also must declare RFK Stadium as satisfactory.

Washington showed they want to keep the Nationals in town for more than a year by doing this. They acted quickly, which needed to be done to make sure the team would not be moved again.

The Twins and Twin Cities need to follow with this by getting their act together this winter and get a stadium deal done. It will be impossible to get a baseball back in Minnesota, we have a team now, lets not lose it.
