Mulholland signs with Twins; TYIB Awards announced

From the Seats, December 17, 2004

MINNEAPOLIS - Terry Mulholland signed with the Twins on Thursday to a minor league contract with an invitation to Spring Training.

The veteran was praised by Terry Ryan on Thursday, saying this:

"He was a good addition for us this year," Twins general manager Terry Ryan said. "He can pitch day after day after day. He can work long. He can start. He can come in as a situational guy. He's an exceptional athlete and can shut down the running game.

"And on top of that, he's a good teammate and member of the organization."

As I have mentioned before, Mulholland is key to next year and stands a very good chance of making the club. As of why he was signed to a minor league contract and not a contract assuring him a spot on the roster, I have no answer, check Twins Geek or Bat-Girl.

With good news comes not so great of news. Ryan said that it is unlikely that he will land a replacement for departing third baseman Corey Koskie. Instead the Twins will go within the organization, meaning Michael Cuddyer will get job opening day. There is still a glimmer of hope for Joe Randa

This Year in Baseball Awards were announced on Thursday and Johan Santana was voted Starter of the Year. A complete list can be found at Around Baseball news on this site. If you visit MLB's web site you will find the runner ups for each category. I was disappointed that no other Twins got consideration in voting.
