Twins: Dominating the Central

From the Seats, December 8, 2004

MINNEAPOLIS - An article appeared on ESPN by Phil Rogers, Monsters of the Midwest. Before I comment on the article, I should point out this guy is from Chicago! He must not be a native.

Rogers does a nice job pointing out how, even though the Twins could lose Radke and Koskie at 11:00 PM Tuesday, the other teams in the Central might have missed their opportunity to make their dent.

In all the hype about the status of Radke, Koskie and other free agents or what is happening with the Twins, fans of the three strait division championships can forget what other teams have done. Or in this case not done.

Rogers points out that the Tribe blew about 30 saves last season. It was the main argument that the team and fans had about why they did not win the Central in 2004. "Well if we would have had a bullpen we would have won a lot more of those games and the Twins would be in second..." Yeada, yeada. The Tribe signed Bob Wickman, they didn't get the best two  closers that were on the market.

It is also pointed out that the goal of the Tigers is to have a winning season. Not necessarily to win the division. Well, of course it is every teams goal to do that, make the play offs and go all the way. But I think we can thank Rogers for pointing out that the Tigers might reach their goal of having a winning season, but so far their additions wont push them over the edge. That could change thought if they do indeed manage to get Carl Pavano.

The White Sox - HA! That is funny. Maybe it is this part that surprised me that this guy is from Chicago. I think he has the best grasp on the team that I have read from a reporter in a very long time.

I think that just about says all there is to say about the Sox! Twins fans need to realize that the possibility of a four-peat is very real.
