Bonds with an asterisk; Selig continues weak stand
From the Seats, December 5, 2004
MINNEAPOLIS - Where to start with this one? Day three of ranting will continue with the same issue. Its a big one, an important one, and nothing else is really happening in baseball world to not talk about the biggest issue out there.
Bonds with an asterisk?
Should Barry Bonds end up with an asterisk in the record book? Should Bonds be in the record book? Should he have everything striped from him? Awards, home runs, stats? Where do we start? When is enough?
I think putting an asterisk next to Berry Bonds name in the record books will happen. It will have to be noted that he took performance enhancing drugs. But the drugs to not make Bonds or anyone else hit home runs. The drugs do not allow Bonds to have the eye he has at the plate. What Bonds is taking allows him to continue at the level of intensity he has, such as getting close to 40 and being able to put more time in the gym than when he was 30.
I do think think we can strip away the awards or stats that Bonds has put up. I do not think the drugs can have that much effect.
Bug Selig comments on steroid use
Bud
Selig gave the following statement on Friday.
I could be alone in this, but this statement seems to have only come about because of this issue and But is being forced to do this to try and save the league. Why now? Why after these testimonies have come out? Why Bud? I want to know why you did not stop this years ago?
In 2001 when you put in effect this minor league program why one was not put in effect in the majors? Is it the players association? Damn union anyway. This is an issue that the players union, the players, owners, and fans all know needs to be dealt with very seriously. Baseball is not the most popular sport in America at this time. MLB cannot afford to not nip this in the bud now. Fans are still upset about the 1994 strike, don't give them or more fans a reason to not watch.
So much for these guys being roll models.
National Treasure - Movie of the year
MINNEAPOLIS - Saturday evening I went to see National Treasure, a movie that the critics tore apart and telling us how bad it was. I question which movie they saw or how far their head was up you know what as they watched the movie.
I think this has to be the best movie I have seen this year. It is the best movie I have seen in a while. Nicolas Cage put on more of an act as he did in The Rock, another favorite of mine. Of course The Rock doesn't really have anything to do with National Treasure so I shouldn't compare the two.
It takes a little while to get into but after the first few minutes it is pretty much not stop action for the rest of the movie. I was sitting on the edge of my seat, smiling and awaiting what will happen next. I had fun during this movie.
It can be criticized that stealing the Decoration of Independence is a little unrealistic. But isn't that why we go to the movies? How they did it was not far fetched, could it happen, no, but it isn't unbelievable like some reviews said it was.
The movie is filled with history and makes it all fun. You really pull for the good guys in this one, it is a feel good movie.
This movie will find its way to my DVD collection the day it is released. If you are looking for a good, fun, action packed movie this is for you!
I give it 5 out of 5 stars.
