Expos continue to stock up - Koskie gets offer

From the Seats, November 20, 2004

MINNEAPOLIS - The Pioneer Press has reported that the Twins offered Corey Koskie a two year deal worth $7.5 million. MLB.com has said that Koskie's agent said they received an offer from the Twins and hoped that would be a starting point offer.

I think that $7.5 million for two years is a fair deal for Koskie and the Twins should not offer anymore to try to keep Koskie here. Koskie could be looking for more like $5 million a year which would put Koskie out of the Twins reach. The Mariners are supposed to make an offer early next week.

WASHINGTON D.C. - The Washington bound Expos continue to make moves to improve their team for next year. Friday the Expos added Jose Guillen in a trade to with the Angles where they sent Juan Rivera and Maicer Izturis.

The Expos finished dead last in the NL East 29 games out of first place. With a new home the Washington team appears to try to change where they finish in the standings in 2005. A first impression is the most important, the new team on Capital Hill can grab fans by making a good first impression. I think these are moves to get them in that direction.

Washington's team and the O's

WASHINGTON D.C. - This past August I was in the D.C. area visiting family. Getting a baseball team around D.C. was a big story at that time with an article in the paper every day I was there.

The Baltimore Orioles are very much the team of northern Virginia and D.C. The papers and TV stations report as if the team was in D.C. I talked to a number of people and read a number of articles and editorials on the subject of the the Expos moving there. Every single one of them said they would continue to go to Oriole games and support the new National League team. The idea of two teams, one for each league was appealing to a lot of people.

Of course this can be the opinion of a small number of people in the area and they might not find the time to support both after a while. I do hope both teams find a way to make things work out.
